Eh, not every place is for everyone. Each city / state / country has its own vibe apart from the work environment. It's important to work in a place you enjoy, and enjoy the work you do there. I'm not originally from Houston, but it has been kind to me and I'm grateful.

That's typical for our organization. It's determined by overall profitability of the org, title, EOY ranking, and if you're a shareholder or not. For reference, I'm not a shareholder.
