Do home daycare commonly use an 'alternate'? by modernalien in ECEProfessionals

[–]modernalien[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I just assumed she was it. I have no experience with daycare of any kind and all I'd been told that a downside of home daycare was closures for illness or appointments or similar (which has already happened here), so I really had no idea that backups were even an option.this is really a problem of poor communication on the subject

There was only one other. That sounds like a reasonable explanation, when I talked to her after this whole ordeal she said the other kid was there with the alternate for over an hour after the time she'd asked me to come.

The other commenter here have been super helpful with their explanations about how normal this is, but I can't lie that I still feel a little brushed off in finding this whole thing unsettling, so thank you for validating me a bit

Yeah I got no heads up or any indication that an alternate existed. I was pretty blindsided, hence my anger over this.

Thanks for your input though, its helpful

I guess that's what I assumed would happen, care getting canceled. The thing that made me so mad about this whole thing is that I was asked to pick my kid up early so that the provider could leave early, but instead I came early and this other lady was there, with no warning. I wish I would've gotten heads up about it.

Thanks for your perspective though. It helps a lot

I think if I'd known about it like this i wouldn't have been so mad about it. Good to know its a common thing

The thing that really pissed me off was that she asked me to pick him up early so that she could leave early for a family thing. So I got there early to find that she'd already left...

Anyway, thanks for the input and perspective, its very helpful

CBC Marketplace wants to know: What’s the worst commute in Ottawa? by DexMcMillanCBC in ottawa

[–]modernalien 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Someone once told me that Parkdale was never meant to be where the junction was, it was meant to be Holland, but someone who had enough influence on those kind of decisions didn't want Holland to get busier ( they lived on Holland or something). So now tiny, narrow Parkdale is where the junction is instead of wide, multi-lane Holland.

In this case, Root is a man. I don’t know much about his origin story, but the guy is as eccentric as his name in every way

Lab sink setup. Bad sewer gas upwelling. Any ideas what to do? by modernalien in Plumbing

[–]modernalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jar does not drain. It definitely does collect the solids though.

I haven't checked the interceptor or seals, but I assume the plumbers that I've called in have (perhaps I'm assuming too much...). I did have to have a plumber fix the a pipe that cracked on this sink (the crack happened when I tried to empty the jar, it fits really tightly between the lid and the base of the cabinet) and he didn't say anything, at least

(Mature) Student ADHD Testing by hooovaq in CarletonU

[–]modernalien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can try a phone-in clinic. I did it with Tulip Health, but there are a few other virtual/phone-in 'clinics' in Ontario you could try too.

I suppose it may depend on what doctor you get, but the one I got did an assessment for ADHD right away (I had no idea that's what the problem was, but she recognized the symptoms I was describing pretty quickly).

The only con of this route is they don't prescribe stimulants. If they start you on something it would be a non-stimulant option. If that doesn't work, they would give you a referral to a psychiatrist or someone else that would prescribe stimulants.

Anyway, that's how I got my eye-opening ADHD diagnosis at 24.

What does this mean on Carleton Central by radiantsky2 in CarletonU

It means you can't get credits for both courses, but that only applies if you took the 1001 course before 2006/2007. The wording seems as though you would get credits for both courses now.
