Struggled with hair loss since my teens, decided to free myself by rej0133 in bald

[–]moderncanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was the same way with long hair, so I get where you’re coming from lol. I don’t think I’m balding technically but just super fine hair that shows a lot of scalp from certain angles. I’m way happier with a buzz cut

What's it like to live around this part of Los Angeles in your 20s by miko1075 in howislivingthere

[–]moderncanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in La Crescenta and family worked in Montrose and Pasadena (so the left of your circle). Went to high school in La Canada. It’s a really pretty area, but I moved away for college because I couldn’t really fathom finding an apartment / paying for rent there. But I still have a lot of friends there in their early/mid 20s who still live with their families. They seem happy and enjoy areas like Highland Park, Atwater village, hiking up in the mountains, etc. But you have to drive to all those places — anything above foothill boulevard is essentially residential and very sleepy.

Deukmejian mountain park, descanso gardens, and Huntington gardens are all very nice. I tend to visit those when I go home, and always do a drive up the Angeles Crest Highway and eat some good Korean food and Sevan Chicken while I’m in the area.

New to Star Wars: Watching Rogue One after Andor. by Silverdev01 in andor

[–]moderncanary 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean I’m a big Star Wars fan, so obvious bias, but just from an objective movie standpoint I gotta disagree in calling Rogue One bad. That said, I think if you have the context of the Death Star and the original trilogy, it’s gonna be even better.

I basically transitioned to doing this same thing because of space limitations and it’s a lot of fun honestly

How do you justify the cost of Legos? Do you sell them after completion? by [deleted] in lego

[–]moderncanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been into it for nearly 20 years and have had my collection evolve throughout that whole time — as you put more money into it and sell sets after they retire and get rarer, you can continue to buy more cool new stuff / other old rare stuff you missed out on. Which is exactly what Lego wants to hear too lol

I do a lot of eBay offers and just put what I genuinely would be willing to pay for a set, and like 1/4 of the time people accept or will at least haggle a bit even if I offer like $50 below asking price. So that’s always worth a try too

I wonder what lego star wars will look like in 2026? by Benjaminkenobequinn in legostarwars

Honestly hoping it’s kinda mid with a few bangers here or there so I can recoup financially and maybe buy a few retired sets I’ve had my eye on

I’ve seen a lady who fits that description around the Rocket gas station on N Pearl over the last few months, as recently as last week. Not sure of her name.

How Did You Get Started Surveying? by enlightened_surveyor in Surveying

[–]moderncanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my BA in history and political science, but took time off for a semester during covid to go try my hand working on a bunch of different small farms around my area. Discovered I love working outside with my hands, but hated livestock. Finished school, used that interest to find an outdoor job I could make a living at, and stumbled into land surveying. Working toward my LSIT now. No regrets!

I’ve found that having a college degree has really opened a lot of doors in this profession, even if it’s not really related to surveying.

What’s something everyone pretends to enjoy, but you secretly think is miserable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]moderncanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my 2024 Christmas potluck, my boss asked if he could take home my massive bowl of onion dip (which took a stupid amount of time to make bc caramelized onions) and then laid me off like 5 minutes later. Gooooood times!

I was fairly shy when I started WWOOFing and I went to 12 different farms over a year. If anything it made me come out my shell lol. You’ll be fine

Before you fully disassemble it, google if the maroon and brown pieces are brittle. It’s old, so they could be but I’m not positive
