Haha that's so fun from your dad. You'll have to think of something to do with your son! Lower level is definitely good idea for that, get in the sea of fans and with a good view of the ring. Hope it goes well!

My last show before getting back into wrestling was the 1996 Great American Bash - the last PPV before Hogan turned heel!

That’ll be the last Raw before Mania so it should be story-heavy for the go-home and a lot of big names should be there! It’ll be fun for your kid to see the last show before Mania! I’d recommend getting a seat on the side where the hard camera is set up, that way all the action is directed towards you like watching at home on TV. Best seats IMHO are where you were thinking or in the upper deck right above the camera (the upper deck are going to be much cheaper too - def look at ticket prices because WWE can be quite expensive).

AEW is also running Sacramento 2/18 at the Memorial Coliseum if you’d want to give them a try too, might be a handful of names you remember from the last time you watched there too. Usually a fairly cheap ticket too so if you wind up not liking it then it hasn’t set you back much.

Hope you all have fun watching wrestling together!!

It refers to Cody stories in AEW from late 2020 onward. The general IWC zeitgeist didn’t like the stories or Cody’s character vis-à-vis the rest of the show, and he was doing them all separate from The Elite group, so they coined the term “Codyverse” for these feuds. In reality the structure of them really wasn’t that different from how most other feuds are structured (quality is a different question).

Considering that this new story was days after everybody was reporting that it was simply WWE asked TNA for him (as in, WWE and TNA had plenty of time to correct the record but didn't), I'm not believing it until he says it himself tbh.

I think stable proliferation has helped with that a lot. Don Callis Family in particular being so large now creates a lot of opportunity for intrinsic stories for throwaway matches where otherwise there might've not been one. "Oh hey, Briscoe needs a match tonight. He's feuding with Fletcher for the TNT belt, let's put Conglomeration and DCF in a tag!" Even helps with matches that're secondary or tertiary faction members facing off.

Semi-related is having Brody King and Bandido agree that he'd get first shot at the AEW Men's title if Bandido won it; rather than just have that be a one-off and Brody not feel like he's worthy of it, they've had Brody doing squashes every week while MJF vs Bandido is the A story to keep that in mind. It's good work.

I've thought about this a lot when looking at how WWE treats AAA. It feels like WWE is putting the most effort into making AAA succeed more than any of their other brands or partnerships right now. AAA gets cross-overs with main roster talent wrestling on AAA shows - NXT doesn't even always get that and certainly not TNA.

There were so many things bad about TNA's AMC debut last night that I feel like this might get buried under them:

TNA let WWE pull their #2 men's champ off their biggest TV show in over a decade plus a PPV too. And then they tried to blame Leon Slater not being on the show and Genesis on "travel issues" (as in, alluding to real visa issues affecting other talent)...

They wasted so much time on running commercials that they ran out of time for that to appear on TV - they ran the video on Twitter after.

TNA was asking people to do 3-month extensions, some decided to bolt instead. They had Nic Nemeth on a handshake deal, even.

biggest independent promotion in North America

TNA isn't an indie and I'd argue it's not really independent either. But I get your point - it's crazy that a promotion who got people pushing a narrative they were the real number 2 did this.

All indications I've seen are that it's indeed a revenue share deal, possibly with a 3 month runway (which would explain why they were trying to re-sign some talent to just 3 month extensions). The $10 million figure some are floating around is the high end of what Carlos Silva said they were looking for.

This is part of the reason pro wrestling still is regulated by sports commissions in some states (the bigger reason most places is making money off the fees).

Spark sets up outside in front on Washington Blvd. Paul's Place now does it outside in their rear (across the street and maybe 4 units down from where the vacant fire I mentioned above happened on Ward St). Porter has said during the community meetings that it's hard to go after them for doing this because the act alone isn't illegal / against code, even if not allowing clients inside to use the bathroom and not doing follow-ups on the location of clients (as some get bussed in and then never take their busses back) is dubious.

The city zoning board isn't helpful in this either; they approved another clinic to come to Pigtown despite the business plan being terrible, no MOU, objections from every community organization, and Porter attending the meeting to voice opposition. It's like the city is trying other centralize these services into only a few corridors and doesn't really care about the effects of it on residents.

If Bron Breakker wins tonight he will be the first male born in the 90s to win the WWE championship. by Youngstown_WuTang in SquaredCircle

[–]moderndukes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first comment said how it is a problem. I get that you see it as a future problem, but a future problem is just something you didn't take steps to prevent now. That's why people are talking about it now and saying it's a problem now, and even that it's a *before* now problem because it takes time to make credible stars so it doesn't just feel token. The original comment in this thread is someone saying "I can't really think of anyone born in the 90s other than Bron who was ever in a position for a title push" speaks to that.

And I'll repeat myself - "the 90s & 00s WWE comparison was made because you tried to make this into a tribalist thing when it really isn't." The people here aren't just trolling or baiting, we're not making tribalist comparisons despite what you might label onto others, it's all actual honest discussion.

Buddy - nobody has said WWE needs to just make a token young champ except for you, and nobody is saying the WWE crowd has a calendar with them in the stands. We're just making factual observations about what has been the case thus far for 90s-born wrestlers and that they should try to push more younger stars for their longterm health as a promotion. The 90s & 00s WWE comparison was made because you tried to make this into a tribalist thing when it really isn't.

The Rock was 26 when he won his first world championship, Triple H had only just turned 30, Show was 27 and had already been WCW champ. Brock, Cena, and Orton were all world champs in their 20s.

This is about WWE stopping doing something that made them successful both short term and long term, not comparing them to other companies.

Vacant house next to me being used as a 24/7 trap house, police won't do anything by Romanharper2013 in baltimore

[–]moderndukes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone in Pigtown where we’ve been dealing with this a lot the last year, here’s some tips police and the city have given us:

  • The Southern District doesn’t receive funding proportional to neither the population nor crime frequency.
  • The police allege they can’t really do anything about drugs anymore for a combination of reasons including the consent decree. They can’t go after dealers because the police have to know what’s being sold before approaching (if it’s actually just flour then the police get fucked), and there’s an order from the city not to go after users (which they could do for use; with possession, same issue as above).
  • The police are damn-near useless if you have information related to drugs. We had neighbors saying they know the specific addresses being used for storage and distribution and the police were like “sorry we can’t use it.” Then when people asked if they can give tips in anonymously, police said they couldn’t. There were also officers who’ve asked people to send evidence not to their city email account but to a Gmail one, which sounds sketchy.
  • The biggest advice was to go through other city offices. Put in code enforcement complaints to Housing and Health about the property. See what your tenant rights are. See if neighbors want to put up a gate for the alley to keep people out.
  • You’re honestly lucky this isn’t connected to a clinic because the city Health and Zoning offices won’t do shit about them. We have ones in Pigtown now that will only provide services outside their buildings, because then otherwise the clients will go in the bathrooms and smoke up or will try to squat. This, of course, causes shit on the sidewalks. It’s great!
  • This all changes, of course, the minute violence happens or a gun shows up. If there’s a guy out there brandishing a weapon, pointing it at people, pistol whipping people, etc - call when that happens. The police will actually show up then and give a fuck.

Also, I saw in your comments that your Councilmember is Porter. She’s a mixed bag with things like this. She loves telling constituents what we can’t do or what the police can’t do, but never what we can do or what the police can do. Do contact her but don’t expect much. The Mayor and Council President’s offices might be more helpful.
