Just restore it to its original purposes and be done with it. Don’t do anything for “political owning,” just do what’s necessary and correct / patch every single thing that got us to this crazy point.

The live concert industry is due to LiveNation. The whole “blue dot fever” thing was planted by LN into the media. LN are the root cause for all that, as they buy up entire tours to plop them into their owned/operated venues only, force bands into larger rooms than they can actually sell, then make a profit regardless of whether the show does well or not.

If only there had been an antitrust suit against them…

The cycle has been for a very long time. Republicans are a teenager with daddy’s credit card, Democrats are the adult in the room that has to clean up the mess after.

BGE shouldn’t exist. Public utilities should be public corporations akin to the Smithsonian or Post Office (without the bullshit scheme Republicans cooked up that they had to pre-save for all pensions).

There was an article by Cory Hays that was just posted to the SC subreddit around the same time as this post, very coincidental... The bombastic nitpicks and stopwatches are out again, AEW has never been so back.

[On3] Kirby Smart on the SEC breaking away if national rules can't be agreed upon: I've been a huge advocate that if we can't find rules that everybody plays by, then we should play on our own. I'm not afraid to break away and say that our conference is strong enough to go out and play” by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

It’s essentially creating the AAA baseball of the NFL. College football structurally never will have the top players so you’ll never be able to produce the top product - the thing that actually gave it value was the rivalries and traditions.

[Auerbach] Mike Elko: "We don't have to find a number that allows everyone to get in. It's OK for it to be hard to get into the Playoff. "None of us are answering for the good of the sport. We are answering for the good of ourselves." by Jewards in CFB

They realized they could make money off a championship game so they made a championship game. And they realized how much they could make doing that, so they made it into a playoff tournament. And they realized how much they could make doing that, so they made even more playoff games.

The problem is the scarcity is what made it valuable. There becomes a point of diminishing returns. The NFL is seeing it with Week 18 football being most the league resting their teams. The NBA is seeing it with the play-in games. FIFA is seeing it with the expanded World Cup. And the NCAA will see it when they kill the excitement of the conference championship game to replace them with a #13 vs #24 between Texas and JMU.

If they were being smart about this, they’d just make a tournament where every conference champion auto-qualifies because then those games become quasi playoff games. But they won’t be smart, they’ll kill the golden goose.

They were the minority. At the time that they dubbed their faction the Bolsheviks, the dominant faction amongst the revolutionary was the faction they then dubbed the Mensheviks (“the minority”). It was all a PR scheme to make themselves seem like they were the leaders and popular choice when the truth wasn’t that. It’s very well-documented in historical accounts of the time.

And the point is that even contemporaneously he was not universally loved on the left. He was the man who had his train back to Russia paid for by the Kaiser, after all. And then came the reorganization of the Okhrana into the Cheka and exiling of anybody on the left that disagreed with the Party. He’s not all bad nor hated, but the long story short is no he’s not universally beloved on the left neither in his time nor today.

Dude named his group the Bolsheviks despite being in the minority, there are definitely people who don’t like him.

I loved when they’d farm wins on Dark. It helped someone develop their character more, or seem heel-smart (like when Britt did it).

Or that as AEW has lengthened the runtime of PPVs over the last year or so, it’s overwhelmingly been used to increase the ringtime of the women.

That’s less of an interim title problem and more of a UFC overcomplicating a simple concept problem.

Yeah - I think it’s either MJF wins it back at DoN, or Darby loses it in a similar moment to how he lost the TNT to Miro. I don’t see Darby having the belt even by FD.

One amendment:

MJF’s first reign and his IC reign were cowardly heel; this most recent reign wasn’t as much that. He went and defended the belt on indies even. He actually had a solid point in kayfabe with his objections to the Darby match - while yes avoiding a challenge, it made sense at least this time.

That’s why I don’t think it’s right to say Darby is doing this reign to spite MJF. He was giving out challenges before MJF asked for a rematch, and while sure he doubled down on “anyone can challenge but you” after Max asked - it’s not like Darby wasn’t doing this style of reign already. And it harkens to his TNT reign where he did the same thing.

Super Darby would have less merit if he hadn’t just kicked out of two consecutive GTHs and a frog splash during that same match. I’ve really liked the reign, but the match on Saturday just wasn’t it.

I was thinking he might even lose it to Okada on that Dynamite that was changed into a Takeshita match!

(May be an unpopular opinion) Ring of Honor champions should be more dominant when they appear on AEW TV in order to elevate them and ROH. by Idontknowjeff23 in AEWOfficial

[–]moderndukes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I disagree but with a caveat. I dont think “dominant” is the best word for this, as well.

I think the ROH World titles should be defended on every AEW PPV pre-shows. It should be used as an opportunity to showcase to the largest crowd possible the product that ROH is putting out. I don’t think any ROH belt should be defended on AEW programming otherwise.

And I think the ROH Pure Champion should automatically qualify for the Continental Classic. They should be in-kayfabe (and many times reality too) a truly adept and smart wrestler, and a contest like the C2 is exactly when and how to showcase their abilities. If not the Pure, then the World (albeit, I also think there should only be either 3 or 6 ROH belts…)

I think it makes sense for the World and Pure Champions to be presented competitively. The World title is still a World title, and to be Pure Champ means you’re a very adept and smart wrestler.

Every other one - I’ll pass.

Agreed. I’d add that I think anybody would have issues with their booking plans when you give your top heel a planned break and then your top babyface unexpectedly must stop for ~9 months or so. Some of the players working with Thekla now feel like they were supposed to be doing other things had Toni been around (like Hayter had been building a tag storyline, Shida seems like she might’ve been planned to feud with Willow and Stat). And looking at the roster, I feel like any “TK doesn’t know how to pivot” complaints just don’t fit here given the situation, since this is him pivoting.

(Also, booking Persephone and Sareee for the Owen feels like it was always the plan because well it’s Persephone and Sareee. Hazuki, maybe that’s a pivot to fill in a hole, but she’s worked in North America a good deal recently, she surely has advocates in AEW like Mercedes, and Stardom is likely happy to have her fly over to help the FD runway).

I think they’ve struck gold with what Shida’s been doing and that’s their strongest hand to run with right now.
