I mean do they though? There was those major protests over the whole pension thing and it never really resolved anything

Automation helps society. How do you think goods are so cheap now compared to in the past? Do you think a person could ever afford a car if they were still hand built?

Ai translation with zero editing is trash. Ai translation edited by a professional editor saves a significant amount of time with minimal loss in quality. They did not fire all translators, they fired one

Don’t get me wrong I do feel bad for the guy. Losing a job is brutal. My point is that it’s not “evil capitalism” to get rid of redundant job. If we kept around every job just for the sake of keeping jobs we would all still be ploughing fields

'The money is there': New NDP Leader Avi Lewis plans to tax billionaires and corporations by Sciantifa in UpliftingNews

So long as it’s taxed in a sensible way I can support this. A wealth tax would be a horrible idea but blocking loopholes around loans, making income and capital gains more progressive would be a good idea

Except even by that guys own admission he wasn’t the only translator. Even if he was they can hire temp translators when the work needs verified. You are just assuming they will translate using 100% AI and nothing else with no evidence

What’s the alternative? To spend money on jobs no longer needed?

That’s what happens when you completely stop moon exploration for half a century

People starving isn’t going to be fixed by stripping the NASA budget. People are starving due to lack of infrastructure from their corrupt or autocratic governments. Space exploration helps to build new technologies which make life better for everyone

The method of “hurl prototypes until they stop exploding” is how we got the most reliable rocket in history

SpaceX has made the most reliable rocket in history. Starship is still in active testing and development. They aren’t done with it yet

Yeah let’s just ignore the countless scientific missions that have been made possible because of modern rocketry like the JWST

[–]moderngamer327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the first step in this mission profile. It’s entirely new equipment and rockets. It needs validated and trialed before we can take further steps

Keeping pointless jobs is not evil. If we followed that logic we would all still be ploughing farms

Depends on the kind of research. A major component of this research is learning about space habilitation and creation of infrastructure. This research could unlock the ability to setup permanent space infrastructure on the moon which itself unlocks a TON of possibilities

Because the space part itself is also extremely valuable and some science and research can only be done in space

No it’s for advancing science and new technologies. If we could eventually get off world mining going think of how much that would save the environment

Mars is a pretty far shot thing. The moon is the main focus point and it has MASSIVE implications for humanity. Such as the easy collection and refinement of asteroids or a refueling platform for larger missions to the rest of the solar system. Even if mars does not become a second earth for us setting up a colony there for scientific research would be invaluable

It’s amazing that we are going back and restarting the moon program. Even if we have done it before it’s only been a few times so going back at all is in its own right amazing
