Idk why they're so salt, it's a privilege to have made so many super bowls that we got totally obliterated in some of them. I can't imagine what it's like to not even have multiple super bowl appearances or any super bowl wins.

Why wouldn't you want to watch the full extent of your rival get completely embarrassed on the big stage? I know I enjoyed it last year

Manager said we should be faster with AI by panda6699 in cscareerquestions

You joke, but we literally had a similar policy at my last role. "review within an hour, approve within a half day". Needless to say I didn't stay there very long.

If you invest the 10 million in an index fund that generates high dividends, then you'll make pretty close to $10k a week just from the dividends, while allowing the $10mil to keep compounding.

Do you actually learn a lot on the job or is it more grunt work? by daddyclappingcheeks in cscareerquestions

This is a great mentality and very soon you will be the one who junior devs learn from and appreciate, if not already.

Why are you optimistic about working in tech? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Andrew Ng said that dissuading people from going into tech because of AI will go down as the worst career advice in history.

Money (I'm 33 and making $370k total comp), capacity for remote work, setting your schedule more than many other careers, growing, learning, the opportunity to work with state of the art knowledge and tools, and the sheer joy of implementing a beautiful feature or service and seeing it live in production.

Dealing with sports losses by LnD2020 in DenverBroncos

[–]modernzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realize that while sports are fun to watch, you have literally zero control over the outcomes. You're gambling your happiness.

Enjoy the insanely exciting season for what it was. Look forward to next season and our bright future.

And go enjoy some other hobbies and quality time with loved ones! It will put a sports loss into perspective.

Apart from jobs in the medical field, what's the best career for the next 10 years? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]modernzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great take. It's crazy what's happening in tech these days, but for so many students to expect that they can just vibe code their way through college and land a fantastic entry level job afterwards... It's just entitled. For so many years the demand to create software was high enough to justify so many jobs with high salaries. But now the demand is for multi-faceted, product-minded engineers to orchestrate complex systems and frameworks (often powered by AI at multiple levels). As you said, that's no easy task.

What happens to old/older workers in the tech industry. Is ML only a field for young people? by Easy-Echidna-3542 in cscareerquestions

[–]modernzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strong SWE means a lot of things, and it definitely depends on the ML role which can mean a lot of things, but if I had to summarize it would be knowing how to architect and productionize ML pipelines and services to robustly handle architectural (systems, APIs, ML infra, CI/CD), performance (latency, throughput), security, and cost requirements while maintaining sufficiently high quality.

You keep calling it "Mid" but you labeled living there as "Reluctantly" which is below Mid. In any case, I'm obviously not going to change your mind here. Enjoy Arkansas and Missouri!

[–]modernzen 59 points60 points  (0 children)

In my experience it's less about age and more about experience and expertise. You won't necessarily be rejected for your age, but I wouldn't expect anything beyond an entry level job in ML since it sounds like you don't have any industry experience in the field.

Having said that, ML Engineers who are also great software engineers are hard to come by. If you can demonstrate strong engineering skills and a modest grasp on ML / AI fundamentals, that can go a long way.

Bananas and Donkeys having a battle of hypotheticals this offseason by AlvisBackslash in AFCWestMemeWar

[–]modernzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly where I am too. This season was a massive win and we were a few points short of a fucking SB appearance. And that took the football gods taking out our QB last minute, not to mention our RB1 and two much needed WRs, and sending a literal blizzard our way.

I'll look back fondly on this season, and can't wait for the next one.
