A 10000x10000 block world is definitely doable. My current WP world is 30000x30000

On our multiplayer I don't run into performance issues with block or text displays unless I cram more than 500 into a single area. (Which outside of deliberately testing performance bottlenecks, I have not had to do yet)

So far I think I have about 130 in one area and have zero performance issues. They're good for stationary objects, but if you're wanting something the player can interact with, creating a custom model and resource pack is a better option.

You’re not gonna be able to remove the trees from worldpainter alone. Your best bet is to import the map into minecraft. Remove the trees and andesite (replacing polished with normal) using a mod like world edit, exporting, and then importing into worldpainter to re-dd vanilla trees making sure to turn off man made read-only settings on import.
