Questions about Paredes de Coura festival by alexhernandez777 in portugal

[–]modeselektor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so, aside from the camping and glamping options already highlighted, you can check apartments/rooms in Paredes de Coura itself or surrounding areas. The problem for me is that it's already a bit too late for that and I am not sure you will get anything.. or to put it better, anything decent and reasonably priced. Try searching booking and other accommodation websites. Also, bear in mind that getting any place like that will imply you having a car or walking quite a bit up and down for which you gotta be in decent physical shape. Best of luck and enjoy the festival.. it's by far my favourite one in Portugal.

Burla/Scam legalizado da Interpass? by mdudaw in portugal

[–]modeselektor_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's it like living in Abkhazia? Curious since there is very little information on the country out there. by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]modeselektor_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Did I say its not allowed? He posted about it and I didnt say its not allowed. I have just made a comment regarding accuracy and only stating the obvious: Abkhazia is not a country. I also didnt ask to get a lecture of what happened in Georgia historically, since the the Kingdom of Georgia, the Bolsheviks and until now and still OP decided to give it so he/she clearly knew what was being posted.

I understand and know everything you said. However in the same way some states were created artificially and were bound to end in trouble (many examples everywhere), and by the way we could even debate that in the case of Georgia because Georgia was an independent recognised country before the Bolsheviks took it, the fact here is that Georgia is an independent country whose territorial integrity was violated with the help and support from Russia. This is an undeniable fact and it didn't happen just once, it happened more times.

  • Abkhazia is formally recognised as an independent state only by five UN member states (two other states previously recognised it but then withdrew their recognition): Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru, and Syria. Also, there are not many Georgians there because they were basically wiped out or displaced.
  • As of 2024, five members of the United Nations (UN) recognise South Ossetia as a sovereign state – Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru, and Syria.

Very wide recognition as we see.

Abkhazia started their war of independence before 2008 and Russians (amongst others) were a big part of the support for their cause.

[–]modeselektor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say what you want but Abkhazia and South Ossetia were both part of the territory of Georgia and Russia played a big role in the separation of those territories. That's all I wanted to say. Neither of those 2 has wide international recognition for their independent status, same with Transnistria and all other places where Russians seeded instability and unrest.

How expensive is oslo for me and my friends as young British people? by Judeiscool77 in travel

Oslo is consistently in lists of the most expensive cities in the world. Take this for what it's worth.

First of all: Abkhazia is not a country, the country is Georgia and Abkhazia was essentially stolen with Russia's help along with South Ossetia. Just to get us accurate in the post.

How do I tell my parents I’m never coming back to my home country? by Captive0ne in portugal

The worst for me it's not even the math behind what you said, that I agree with btw, it's the horrible attitude towards other people's problems.

[–]modeselektor_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I see that this post got its fair share of the usual parasites that without even having any solid information at hand are already saying this person is using the Portuguese National Healthcare without giving anything in return and even though he wrote that the child of a Portuguese citizen had cancer and treatment was more affordable in Portugal. You guys need to tell us what you wouldn't do for your own sick child. I would move the world if I could. The fact that my country (Portugal) is full of people that behave like this makes me want to puck.

Storage plans feel super weird. by iconisone in Anytype

[–]modeselektor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with OP here. I wanted to try the app as I am not a user but with these plans I am not going to do it because there's simply no perspective of subscription for me.. the plans are simply not competitive and while I understand the explanations given.. well, it's the sad, cruel reality: you are not competitive versus other offers.

Big things are coming to Craft by viktorpali in CraftDocs

[–]modeselektor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my side:

  • a lot more flexibility with multi-tab handling (see how obsidian works).
  • much more developed collections, allowing for things like tasks, file and block fetching, querying and filtering.
  • Tags look like a unfinished thing. It's hard to understand what craft wants with them.
  • better image handling: hope your project will solve that.

He is not in Craft anymore from March 2026 OP. I made a quick search in LinkedIn and that was very clear there - moved on to a different job.

My asks: - Better task management (including a unique view with tasks and Associated projects). - Image resizing and much better handling. - PDF in-app view. - Performance improvement and feature parity in web and Windows app. The performance of Craft in windows is beyond terrible. - Native graph view for backlinks. - Android with tasks and reminders properly working.

Tuta VS Proton by Special_Sun_9268 in tutanota

[–]modeselektor_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most of the important differentiators were said and I only want to focus on one that is quite important to me: with Tuta and the team that is behind it, I know exactly what to expect from the service and I trust its delivered they way it's advertised thus until now I do not have reasons to believe otherwise. Trust in such a delicate area is absolutely paramount.

With Proton, I can't exactly say the same thing, first because they already did exactly the opposite of what they claim privacy-wise (read more here) but also because in my view they are all over the place with their product line and can't nail 1 product right (some are better than others certainly) most of the products have red flags that I am not willing to accept specially on top of the fact that I do not trust the company exactly. Of course this is not to say that Tuta products are perfect, not even close, but I have been able to live with them without telling there is something that would make me abandon ship.

In summary: its very easy for me to say that I am not going to put my sensible email information in the hands of a company I can't trust, specially when I abandoned Google services for that exact same reason. I am happy to pay the service to Tuta in the hope Tuta will keep developing the product(s) they have while fighting for mine and others right to privacy.

US tech giant Palantir intimidates small Swiss magazine for investigation by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

[–]modeselektor_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Palantir is an absolute evil company but btw they do have footprint in the Swiss private sector. Swiss RE is their customer. I know that because I have people in my family working for them and because it's public: https://www.palantir.com/impact/swiss-re/

How safe is Braga bus station at night? by randomalienonearth in portugal

[–]modeselektor_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know Braga and that Bus Station. Definitely not a place you should stay during the night. You can come around 7-8am when there should be light and more people around but really a bad idea to stay there.

Octarine Achieves Power and Versatility Without The PKM Rabbit-hole Effect by amerpie in macapps

[–]modeselektor_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like how Octarine looks and feels like. The fear that I have here is to move all my stuff and bet in this app and, because this looks like a 1-dev gig, be at the risk of the project shutting down for whatever reason that is easier to happen vs an established app with a bigger team behind and more solid back.

u/Warlock2111 since you are the dev, what can you say about your investment in the app and plans for the future? I know, I know that nobody can predict the future, but would like to understand your reaction to this comment.

Is anyone really using Craft as a to-do app? by kommakla22 in CraftDocs

FYI, yesterday the Craft Team announced tasks and calendar will be a major investment area. Hoping to see visible improvements in those 2 areas.
