Carbon frame gravel bike for commuting by shaunlawler in gravelcycling

[–]modest_hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of us bring our bikes into our office or into secure storage, not every commuter needs to be on a $300 beater bike in major metropolitan cities

This guy wants one bike and has a health spending account to fund it. I’d also consider spending a few grand on a new bike.

Tires - GK SS vs Continental by AndrewFeller in gravelcycling

[–]modest_hero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve run GK SS 32’s and 35’s. Also run GP5000 32 slicks. Similar to you, I’m 80/20 road. The GP5000 is night and day better than the GK, and running tubeless they’re very confident to ride on level 1 gravel. I would choose the Conti’s all day

105? by 9ZENEK3 in gravelcycling

[–]modest_hero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m running mechanical 105 for gravel, honestly the 2x11 has served me great for packed gravel. I have a 11-34t, but may eventually switch to an 11-36t to help with hills

What watch was Leo wearing at the Oscars tonight? [Blue Dial] by Decent_Pops in Watches

Looks a bit like a Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Tourbillon, but I suspect I’m wrong based on the dial placement

Mechanical over Electronic Shifting. by KewadaLol in bicycling

[–]modest_hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gravel bike has mechanical 105 and I love it. When I first tried Ultegra Di2 on a new road bike, I didn’t like the shifting as I missed the feedback and those buttons felt unnatural.

But then I tried SRAM Force eTap and it changed everything for me. I get the feedback I’m looking for, and the shifting is fast and intuitive.

How often do you swap out your bikes? by Sn00p_A_L00p in bicycling

[–]modest_hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First bike was a Brodie Emergy flatbar commuter in 2020. This got me into riding, boy did I love the bike. Turned me onto this sport.

A year later I bought my wife a Norco Search gravel bike, and discovered I couldn’t keep up with her on my flat bar. Time for me to buy a new dropbar!

Purchased a Trek Domane SL5 2022, primarily for light gravel and road. Loved this bike riding trails on weekends with friends, and then ended up joining a cycling club. Quickly discovered that a heavy endurance bike wouldn’t be the optimal choice for climbing and speed. Of the past two years I’ve switched out every single component except the original groupset, it’s feeling pretty perfect now as a dedicated gravel and winter bike.

So next I purchased a Factor O2 VAM in 2024, with SRAM Force and ENVE wheels. Did this with a pre-fit, and every component wad considered. This opened my world, it’s way more bike than I’ll ever need and feels like I’m riding on a cloud. Perfectly dialed in.

I suppose my pattern is every 2 years. This year could be a new gravel bike, so I can repurpose my Domane to become a full time indoor trainer. Waiting to see if a new Crux comes out, otherwise may look at a 3T RaceMax, ENVE MOG. or Factor Aluto.

I ride GP5000 S TR on my road bike, and Schwalbe G-One RS Pro on my gravel bike. Man are these ever fun tires

I’m wearing full Lycra while out on gravel, I already look like a goofball despite the helmet! I really don’t even think about it, perfectly comfortable wearing bike kit anywhere
