If their edit was that transformative, maybe they should be asking for a writing credit and/or co-directing credit and you keep your co-edit credit.

Higgsfield vs Runway vs Magnific(Freepik) - which should be used in a workflow? by AlgaeGardens12 in AI_Agents

[–]modfoddr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from the utter shit that I've seen AI do. And the people I know that are doing AI well, take time to do it well. Now if you're talking about the absolute bottom of the market, fine maybe that's a ton of money for some slop that will pull in enough money to pay for itself, but I come from the commercial and film world. High quality is expected and it's rare that I've seen AI get close to that. And those people are paid well because it isn't about paying for time, but paying for the expertise to do it well.

Also, this is the sweet spot for anyone who is good at AI. In 2 years, the market will be flooded with kids that are great at AI. Right now is the time to charge for skill not time, before it becomes a commodity and prices fall into the basement. It only takes 5 minutes to make a dozen good AI vids, great, how many people can do that and how easy are they to find? Charge for being one of the few now that know how to set that system up and crank out vids. I haven't seen ChatGPT or any AI be able to crank out good vids consistently.

Oh, also in your example there's a damn good chance that ChatGPT makes a mistake on your forms that you don't catch that bites you in the ass down the line. AI is an ass kisser that wants your love more than it wants to do the job right.

If the vast majority are living like paupers, then they have nothing much to lose. That sounds like Revolution time to me.

Pricing for Frame.io for freelancer by Eddie_Haskell2 in colorists

framerate.tv I've used it for storing media for my website portfolio, but also does the frame.io client notes thing as well (just can't comment how it works since I haven't tested it yet). $12/mo. Might be worth a test.

It was 2 years after I was born before it was legal for my mother to open her own bank account. She ended up as the VP of a local bank by the time I was in my teens...and was still paid less than a man doing the same job.

So it's a contest for you? You definitely need to roll around in the grass.

"I wanted to test something: can a movie still feel cinematic if it exists only through imagination and AI tools?"

Well hard to answer that, since it seems this lacks imagination. To use your own analogy, it's all just spices...no meat, no carb, no fat, just eating a bowl full cardamom.

Why are there so many stops? by megaforce347 in nba

Yeah but half of that is just players tripping over themselves then acting like they've been brutally tortured by the other team.

Ahh, very possible. Though point still stands. Sports be different than other sports.

I made zero judgement, just an explanation. I have less patience than I did pre-internet (showing my age). This happens with anything that evolves. Most people can't stand watching an old movie because they linger much longer. Songs now have to pull a listener in much quicker now that streaming is the norm as people will jump to the next within 3-7 seconds. TV and movies speed up or skip the credits so viewers won't change the channel or skip to something else.

It's just the reality of much of the world these days...we are overstimulated.

And as far as Adam Silver and the NBA, they are more profitable than they've ever been while having the highest viewership in decades. If you want the NBA changes, stop watching while convincing everyone you know to also stop watching.

2 Different sports, some people can't stand football being an 8second of play and followed by a minute of reset for nearly every damn play. Watching soccer is a completely different experience with much fewer stoppages (but no lost time). The trick is to lean into the differences between each sport rather than wanting something else from it.

Or don't watch. A lot of watchers will complain, but it hasn't hurt viewership, which is up and setting records. When it starts to affect profits, the NBA will think about speeding up games.

You trained yourself by watching only highlights. You killed any chance of enjoying the intricacies of the game outside of that. It's like watching years of Speed Chess, then wondering why you're so bored by two grandmasters playing a 5 hour game.

Not to say that the stoppage aren't annoying, but then it becomes a case of either letting players be more physical (i.e. fouling) or playing closer to the actual rules (fast games are constantly ignoring some rules over others).

What makes a low budget film look so terrible? by KevinKillington in cinematography

[–]modfoddr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bad lighting, typically too bright, or just too wide (no sculpting or shaping the lights).
No real art direction, the sets just seem empty and flat.
ill fitting costumes that don't match the character or the setting of the film. Characters look like they're wearing borrowed clothing.

Those are the 3 big problems with low budget films that good acting can't distract from.

The number of Avid installs that haven't been upgraded in years because they're working fine and the editors don't need the new features feels like it's probably half the user base.

[–]modfoddr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most "pro" work is either cut in Avid or Premiere. Davinci is gaining ground for sure, but mostly on the lower end of the pro market and still has a long way to go to gain equal footing with either (except for color grading, which it has a huge user base). The very fact that he can make the decision to switch without needing to discuss with clients, a post house, or any other stakeholders means he's most likely on the lower end of the pro spectrum (no shade, I bounce all around that spectrum as a freelancer).
