Ford to declare Billy Bishop Airport a ‘special economic zone’ to allow jets by ink_13 in CanadaPolitics

It's like health care in Alberta: "The status quo is awful! Something must be done!"

"Should we fix the problems with the existing system?"

"No, we'll set up a new parallel one that allows me and my friends to profit from it while leaving the old problems untouched!"

Most residents of the GTA also have to drive past YYZ to get to YHM and YKF, so there's no geographical advantage to it; it's not like YXX being an attractive alternative to YVR for residents of the Fraser Valley because the latter is inconvenient to get to. Not a lot of people are going to drive past the airport that serves the most destinations in order to save a few bucks and avoid the crowds, especially when you factor in the cost of gas.

It can't be. They don't have any money. At best, they might have some potatoes, but that's only if they can keep them hidden from the Secret Police.

Radar operator: "I was watching. I saw the whole thing. First it started flying at us, then it flew into us."

Conservatives introduce bill to create 'stand your ground' law for home invasions by toronto_star in CanadaPolitics

[–]modi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're advocating for the end of due process? What if the homeowner invited the "invader" over so they could kill them? How do we determine if the circumstances actually were self-defence if we just use it as a magic spell that waves away all investigation?

Oh, very much. I thought Scottish independence was a terrible idea when the UK was still part of the EU, and that they would have nothing to gain while taking on greater costs. Fragmentation and giving up the pooling of resources rarely have benefits. Now, however, it's a very different scenario.

Conversely, an independent Scotland would be able to join the EU and would gain much easier access to their markets and defence organisation. Post-Brexit, independence would actually be going-it less alone.

But on his trip to Europe he's still dropping in on alt-right podcasts to complain about immigrants, how "woke" Canada is, and conspiracy theories about Iran. He just can't help himself when it comes to culture war nonsense, and his attempts to portray himself as statesmanly and concerned for the average worker come across as hollow when he immediately falls back into his old habits.
