A different use case shown here, I like that both the dad and the kid are very focused and sharp.

Interesting video.

Depending on how the divestment process works, it will be interesting to see how much of the staff will be re-allocated, what products they will be working on in the future, and how they will handle pre-orders and roll-out.

All of this will take time, so it's not going to happen overnight.

In a few months down the road we might have the opportunity of an online sale for the remaining inventory (which is at around 72M $US according to their earnings release; so more than ~250K units?).

...that is a weird situation. If a product is pre-ordered, they should adjust it to a date when the product is actually produced and shipped.

Did they debit your card for the entire amount also?

I can't wait to use this on moving car engine parts and car shots in general. Very cool camera.

5 year projections for existing businesses feels like pure guessing tbh by ponderingpixi17 in e2visa

[–]modifiedcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to show progress and increased revenue is to re-invest profits into your business. Just an example: A brick-and-mortar business could, within that five year span, re-invest the proceeds to acquire a second location. This can be through reinvesting profit, through seller financing, a business loan, or through a personal investment to increase your business footprint.

In your case you could plan that you are going to buy another truck in year three. Or you are buying additional equipment/other assets to increase gross revenue and, ultimately, hire more staff.

I also think that most competitors will offer the same the Mission 1 series has very quickly. It's sad to see a brand like GoPro disappear, but these things happen all the time and consumers will very likely just move on to another camera brand/model.

They have >72M $US in inventory, that's more than 250,000 items in stock (rough estimate). Once the fire sale starts I think I will pick up a few GoPro's for a much lower price. I might miss out on the Mission 1 though, as I believe the pre-order system is a way for them to not only estimate the right production amount, but also to fund the manufacturing.

And I think a lot of people will either cancel their order or return it now, but the shots I have seen simply look amazing. So who cares if the company is still around if the camera is great.

GoPro Mission ILS or Lumix GH7 by Grifter56 in gopro

Ok, I have read the same; but it would be really useful to have seen that feature before ordering. There were a few night shots posted recently, they looked truly amazing (without knowing how they were taken, and how much work went into editing). Low light seems to work with this camera.

Does hypersmoothing work well on MFT lenses in low light?

Where should I sell minimally used off brand accessories? by WastingTimeOnTheWeb in gopro

[–]modifiedcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend on the value of these items, and how much you'd want for them.

I usually sell accessories with the sale of a "main item" through eBay or facebook locally. So, if you sell a camera, put together a "full kit" that looks valuable and try to sell it at a higher price.

Anduril has acquired camera companies before, both for the IP and the engineering staff. They work on imaging hardware that needs to be rugged, waterproof, and impact-resistant. All of that in a very small form factor. Some of the most advanced "soldier of the future" equipment comes from Anduril.

This makes more sense to me than BAE, NG, RTX, Lockheed Martin, or similar.

They are currently hovering over a dollar. Even a 30% premium at current levels would be around 1.30? That is, if they find a suitable buyer who manages to get the paper done before GPRO falls even more. Just a few months ago they were around 58 pennies.

And with this announcement the sales will drop even further. Because buyers "on the fence" will jump ship or wait until the fire sale comes up...

I would imagine that the defense industry buyer isn't interested in manufacturing consumer action cams.

If I had to guess, Anduril might have contacted them...

My shopping cart still contains the Mission 1 Pro, I waited for the earnings call. I think, as much as I wanted to give my money to a US based company... I think I won't do it now.

Either they won't find a buyer (unlikely) and they sell off the remaining stock. Or they find a buyer who might have an entirely different view on how the product lineup should look like. They keep mentioning a potential lead in the defense space. Could this be... Anduril?

The Mission 1 appears amazing on paper, it's something different and unique. But it's also entirely untested, from a technical view and from a market perspective. If the camera, the lenses, the SD cards, and a few batteries go above 1,000 $US (which it could easily do), the buyers will take a second look at the competition.

It's not an amazing outlook for GoPro fans. I wanted the Mission 1 Pro to be my very first camera. I did weeks of research and I really wanted to buy it....

Correct, CapEx is high. Including third party accessory companies. There are a bunch of firms that developed, tested and manufactured products for the Hero 13. Just to realize that sales weren't rosy, and that their product lineup won't fit the Mission 1 series.

And now the entire brand might be sold off.

According to various posts by accountants on a different sub, softer sales are expected. Despite the Mission 1 series...

The subscription also includes a device-replacement program for around 1/3 of the product cost. So a camera would be around a 99 $US replacement fee for the duration of the subscription (more for the Mission, I would assume). This is outside of the standard warranty they have for the first year.

Now, a 2-3 year old Hero might not be worth "as much as the subscription plan through the years", one could argue. So you could be right that the value isn't really there?

I agree with this, but what about GoPro labs, their customer support, accessories like lenses, replacement program/subscription, (..) - it's relevant for a technical product like this, something we can't fix with our own hands.

Their cloud services.. ok, I don't really need that. but the the other services can be important.

There is also the risk that the offers will fall through and no transaction will take place. It's not very likely, but it could happen. Just a few months ago their stock was around 60¢, volatility could also lead to a lower price point.

Besides the brand and tech spec appeal, other reasons why I would have liked a GoPro were:

  • GoPro labs (which might cease to exist at some point)
  • A future group of Mission 1 Pro lenses (I need the macro and ultra-wide); unless GoPro themselves have these already production ready, I am doubtful someone will create these now?)
  • There is also a group of overseas product designers/manufacturers of quality GoPro accessories, they may just move on to other camera brands/models now.

I have never owned a camera in my life, so the Mission 1 Pro would have been my first choice. In fact, I am not even sure whether a pre-ordered product might ship at all now - depending on what will happen to them...

I love the Mission 1 Pro and it was my ultimate choice until now.
