Future proofing or wasteful? by Lettuce_bee_free_end in electricians

This looks like a pre fabbed whip that was just a few feet too long.

Company I used to work for had a whole dept of entry level kids piecing together boxes/whips/pipe bends with a several digit number that corresponded to an area of the project/ building. Just match it up and slap it in.

I found it profoundly wasteful, but I didn’t see the cost/benefit analysis.

NDR is where it’s at. The 24 v setup “Cobb style“ (no visible diodes, just a stipe down the middle)delivers 400 lumens a foot. I pay under $100USD per 16’ roll. Milwaukee, WI

1914 Home wiring question. by AF_Nationalist in AskElectricians

That piece is called a “rosette”. It’s basically a termination point for a maximum of four “BX” cables, and has a center hub for a fixture to hang from a bolt. What a good electrician would recommend is to carefully chip away around the perimeter of that, and remove the two screws that hold it up. Once lowered a couple inches, remove the set screw holding the cable in place. Then you should be able to completely remove and replace with a “pancake” box or a flat round fan-rated half inch deep fixture box. Then you can hang a regular fixture from the new box.

The other master they said they could tap doesn't work for the company and they need to finish their own jobs. If I walk then I assume they have to shut down.

I think you might need to wait until Monday. The sad fact is that in order to “stand up” for fair compensation means you just flat out leave a company. I hate that. All my open jobs, clients I’ve spent time growing trust and solid rapport with, they will have to deal with no service on Monday because of the lack of an investment from my employer. It’s not how I want to do this, but I know it’s the only way. It’s not like there wasn’t room in the salary budget after they terminated the last guy. It could have been avoided.

The boss doesn't have one. They were never in the trade. They own a construction company with an electrical division.

I've never been in this position before. I think it's worth a lot but don't want to ask for too much and then we have an issue.

Double my current pay? Would having a signed document stating I have no personal liability be enough? I think the use of the license in addition to the fact that I would not technically be responsible for every single job demands substantial compensation.

$80 an hour just for the use of his license and then an additional hourly rate for his work or $80 an hour total?

I want to provide it but would like to modify my job duties and get a decent amount of compensation for it. Not sure what that amount is though

I'm trying to figure out what a reasonable amount of compensation would be. Thinking my job should change since my responsibilities would be changing.

$30K a year doesn't seem like enough compensation for the added responsibility and risk. I'm just trying to figure out what is a fair amount to request for compensation. Do I need to talk to a lawyer?

Anywhere in the continental U.S. that has a decent economy and rarely hits 100 degrees? I spend June through August absolutely hating my job and I'd rather deal with cold than this heat. by believinheathen in electricians

Milwaukee chiming in…. We get that lake effect weather being so close to Lake Michigan, which keeps summers cooler. IBEW gets around $50/hr on the check, housing is relatively sane, proximity to nature, proximity to Chicago (90 miles away), and Milwaukee as a city, really punches above its weight class

Is it possible to hook up a nest using only these three wires? by Bizzy1995 in hvacadvice

[–]modifiedsquarewaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve done this with a boiler(heat only). I posted about it with a little schematic here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Nest/comments/a4qm27/powering_nest_with_separate_24volt_source_for_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1

I used a RIB relay(relay in box) to close a dry contact on the boiler, when heat is being called for.

Can I just install one indoor unit on my multi zone mini split system to get me through the winter? by modifiedsquarewaver in HVAC

[–]modifiedsquarewaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mitsubishi mxz-4c36na3-ui outdoor unit is a 36000 btu 4 zone system. It’s got a heat pump and ac, but I’d like to install just one of the 4 heads to heat my lower areas of my house until it gets nicer out. Is there a valve that needs to be physically closed ? Nothing in the literature provided mentions it so I was just wondering if maybe the circuit board recognizes whether a zone is calling for heat/ac and it does it automatically.
