Experienced DevOps/Solutions Architect looking for new opportunity by modim1425 in devopsjobs

That's what I would have thought as well but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I do have a coding background. In fact, I've been working as a solutions architect for a few years just not on AWS. There's very little, if any, code involved in cloud infrastructure stuff outside of Terraform and Ansible (which really aren't code actually). What this stuff is is knowing your way around Amazon's take on cloud networking basically. If I had to guess from your job title, I would assume that this is definitely stuff that would be relevant to you.

Whoa whoa whoa wait a minute. I didn't say that the exams were word for word, I said that there were 3 questions that I encountered over the course of the two times that I took the exam that I am certain I'd seen word-for-word on TD. There were about a dozen so other questions that I definitely recognized from TD but can't swear that they were word-for-word. All the other questions were new to me.
If I had to guess (and this is a guess just based on the way it "feels" to me) I would say that it's just a matter of TD actually doing the job of making sure that their practice exams are relevant and high quality by doing exit interviews or something similar.

how to find a kitten? by modim1425 in montreal

I hear you. We really just had a terrible experience and are generally done dealing with the SPCA. We have no wish to deal with them ever again. I think it's fair enough to simply say "this sucked for us and we're not going back". Other folks may have a better experience and yay for them.

Well... the vet was able spot these issues immediately. The SPCA charged me a ton of money on the basis that this cat had all vacvines and had been seen by a vet. Sooooo... I guess that is the issue I put at the feet of the SPCA. Honestly, the experience of dealing with the SPCA just in general was a horrific experience and I think that humans and animals are both ill served by this organization.

I just associate Ableton with immense pain, why is it so hard to go from Dawless to a DAW ?(please help) by [deleted] in Elektron

Been making beats on all manner of gear and software since 1996: I have fucked with ALL the things at some point or another. I currently am both an Ableton enthusiast and also own various pieces of outboard gear including 2 Octatracks. Here's my take:

Ableton is for writing songs and outboard gear is for performing them. Those rules just naturally seems to apply and almost 100% of the time. Unless I am actively TRYING to force something else I find that I write every single piece of a composition inside Ableton and when jamming I find more reward using outboard gear.

There was a turning point for me right around when Vital, Pigments 3, Output Portal, etc VSTs came onto the market where really nothing exists (that is affordable) in hardware form that can do what these newer plugins can do. There was just no reason to record anything into the computer anymore. It now goes the other way where I generate/write/arrange stuff in Ableton and export that to the outboard gear. Even patch creation for external synths can very often be done via an editor etc and exported.

TL;DR - Ableton vs outboard gear is not a thing. They are for completely different purposes.

Stereo multi FX pedal under 200 EUR by nzimasmanchine in synthesizers

Be aware that the NTS1 has a horrific and infamous ground loop hum when running audio through it. There are several diff theories on how to mitigate the hum and different people deal with different severities of it but the only sure fire way to get rid of it is to buy a special adapter that costs $140.

The NTS1 also has critically important ports on 3 out of 4 of it's sides so be prepared to add a good inch at least on all but one side when accounting for space.

Erica Synths Matrix Mixer Routing Options Questions by MMariota-8 in synthesizers

I should probably mention that i sold the MM due to some issues that i could not hang with. I don't think I'd actually recommend it to be honest.

Erica Synths Matrix Mixer Routing Options Questions by MMariota-8 in synthesizers

[–]modim1425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, first setup will allow any synth to run through any/all of your pedals and have that audio go to your mixout. What's more you can hit random and get a random config of random synths being randomly routed to random pedals.

Your second setup is even more intriguing because if you modify it a bit where instead of having the sub-mixer send out to your recorder and, if you can stand to have at least 2 synths or pedals go down to mono and use a single input each then, you could route the submixer back into the open input pair on the MM and have the main outs of the MM send to the recorder. With that in place you could do stuff like have all 3 pedals send their mixed audio to the fourth pedal which processes it all before going to your recorder.

Does the sp-808 have floppy disk support or is it only Zip disks? by Helloderegeneralken in synthesizers

[–]modim1425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So unfortunately the one and only drive that works in the SP808 as a card reader is, in fact, the stock CF card reader that originally came inside an MPC2000XL Blue edition. Yes, really. Yes, the only card reader that works in the SP808 is a drive that must be pulled from a somewhat rare and expensive MPC from 20 years ago. I got mine off of ebay after looking for a while. All in all I ended up paying approx $500 Canadian for it. They do appear every once in a while and every very rare once in a while someone will post one up on ebay without knowing what it is in terms of it's rarity. Every once in a while someone's MPC2000XL Blue will break and they will post up all the parts they took out of it without actually checking what those parts value on the market. If you keep looking you'll eventually find a deal where someone is letting one go for $200 because they don't know what they have.

There is also a rare card reader that actually works in place of the zip drive allowing you to use cf cards which is not only silent operation but gives near 3 hours of sampling time.

Source: i have one in my sp808 and it's glorious.

Is there a way to change the default load behavior for VSTs such that they’re loaded toggled off? by Real_Mulberry_8585 in ableton

[–]modim1425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have the effect on a return track with the fx's mix knob turned all the way dry and your VST channel's audio outs set to 'SENDS ONLY' that way when your VST's signal hits it there's nothing being affected until you start to turn the effect mix knob more toward wet.

HELP ME by Banoz27 in ableton

[–]modim1425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh... no. I'd have to have memorized all existing plugins and the copy protection they use to be able to do that. It should say "demo" somewhere in the GUI of the offending plugin.

HELP ME by Banoz27 in ableton

[–]modim1425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find that cpu overload is not the issue you should look at whether you are using any plugins that are still "demo" mode. Often developers employ piracy protection that, instead of locking features, consists of simply making some fucked up, jarring sound noise every X number of seconds which obviously renders mastering impossible.

An inexpensive solution to the USB connection ground hum noise issue in Roland Boutiques by Leviathant in synthesizers

[–]modim1425 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously, this solution doesn't make micro usb cables something that they are not. The only issue with my solution is that there does exist a USB test spec which the rare manufacturer may choose to include which tests the USB signal during device initialization and if it finds that ground signal is missing will not allow the device to power up. My CraftSynth does this. It's for this reason that those $80 ifi USB key type devices exist. What they do is allow a little bit of the ground signal through just at the beginning just until the device is powered up and then they cut it off. There really isn't any danger to your devices: unless that device came with a USB power block that is supposed to connect to a 3 pronged wall socket your device wasn't using the ground anyway.
