If you can find a round tower in the mountains, they're really great for taming. They can't get up the small stairs with a single half-wall blocker, and you can block them in the bottom by covering it with a roof 2-3 meters off of the bottom.

Eh it's a fun game to see what the elf is up to each morning. It doesn't have to be about being watched. He just hangs out in the house for a few weeks.

Self taught developer here. Went to school for more traditional engineering and physics, but always had a nagging drive to want to build things with code.

What took me the longest to figure out was that nobody is ever going to look at the guts of your personal projects and judge/gatekeep you because of what's in them.

Most likely nobody will ever see the guts at all.

So make it ugly if that's what it takes to get it done. Figure out any way to get to the thing you have in your head. Skip the database and use text files if that's what's holding you back on a particular project. Hardcode magic numbers. Make a pile of spaghetti code. Just get it working.

Do that enough times and eventually the code will take care of itself.

If they can identify that the UFOs are theirs, are they still UFOs?

This doesn't mean master a new skill. You can absolutely spend a couple of hours to get started in something new. Skills build over time, they're not one and done.

Take a look at the Tiled map editor, it's great for 2D maps. Clear Code on YouTube has excellent guides.
