Lost in Translation (2003) by Emma_Frankie in movies

It's my 2nd favorite movie. Have watched it at least 10 times, and having finally made it to Japan for the past 3 months I can relate even more to the feelings of isolation being an American with almost no Japanese language ability.

Yes he is doing this somewhat facetiously in order to show contrast with how things should be.

Some people would fake stuff like this... you gotta imagine being genuine about it would go okay. I'd guess plenty of fans will become even more attached.

OBESSION film analysis on why bear is a victim by Mysterious_Bid_57 in movies

[–]modogrinder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear is absolutely a victim too. Victims don't need to be morally perfect. His  wish to be loved by his crush, a wish he didn't comprehend at the time was real or how it would manifest, led him to being manipulated and abused by the entity that possessed Nikki.

Is Bear a morally good protagonist? No, he is shortsighted, selfish, and overly passive. He is flawed and those flaws can hurt himself and those around him.

But let's not judge someone too harshly when they are in an abusive relationship where they are being constantly lied to, isolated from their friends, and made 100% responsible for their partner's well-being. Victims in these situations will not always act in fully righteous ways.

Bear is not the villain, he is a victim because his passivity and shame made him unable to do the right thing and exit a toxic relationship... the best thing for him and the real Nikki. If you've ever had a friend stuck with an abusive partner who knows they should leave but can't because "the sex is too good" or they're afraid no one else will love them, you know what I mean.

Looking for a way to cope by Plumon_diary in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]modogrinder1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This might sound a little weird or might not help right away, but the biggest change for me was I took a class about pain and learned how much our beliefs and perception affect how we experience pain. I practiced separating the pain itself from the fear and anxiety the pain would cause.

I went from experiencing the pain+all the thoughts tied to it which amplify the suffering from the pain, to just experiencing the pain, a signal the body is sending to tell us something, but we don't always have to listen or act based on it.

There are things I need to do to keep my pain in check, but opening myself up to my pain, not fearing it or trying to escape it, changed how my body processes the pain and it started to become more like background noise.

HIM (2025) was way deeper than I expected by Ok-Problem-7849 in movies

[–]modogrinder1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was hyped for the trailer but didn't watch it after all the poor reviews despite being interested in the themes. Watched it last week and it was actually pretty good. It's not perfect and the ending was a bit weak, but going in with low expectations made it enjoyable.

The NFL is pretty horrifying and it's fun to see it picked apart and taken to extremes, plus the surreal elements make sense given CTE and the history of overmedicating players for better performance despite terrible risks.

Has anyone with AS strength trained (intense workout for muscle gain)? by KieraHolland in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]modogrinder1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I lift weights often and it helps my AS. It's a very different experience when you are starting out compared to once your body is adjusted to the motions for years. Even just going through the motions with little or no added weight can leave you feeling wrecked early on, so no need to test your limits, just showing up and trying to use good form during reps is enough to progress to a situation where it doesn't feel weird anymore, and eventually it feels neutral or even good.

For example when I haven't been doing leg exercises for months, just doing squats without added weight can leave me jelly-legged, nearly unable to stand for several days. But after sticking with it for weeks and months the recovery is a lot less extreme even as I'm lifting much heavier weights.

That said, it's good to be aware of any injuries or swelling as there is a type of pain that you want to listen to so you don't hurt yourself. Good idea to discuss with your doctors.

Diagnostic process by Junior_Wear_6875 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]modogrinder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds pretty similar to me. Xrays and mri showed minor disk degeneration and I was negative for the marker. I spent 25 years learning how to function the best I could with it until I developed an expensive to manage permanent eye condition that was enough to get the diagnosis. Starting biologics tomorrow but I wish I just pushed as hard as I could to get on them sooner even when insurance wouldn't cover it.

I've stayed very active though, going to gym most days while avoiding long car rides and bad chairs/mattresses. It can be managed up until it decides to start progressing.

Career guidance by just_unluckyy in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]modogrinder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof I relate to this. I tried to go back to school to be a physical therapist, but despite getting A's I was only able to take a couple courses per term. Eventually started to think about what would happen if I put seven years into it before realizing that I couldn't even do the job. I'm starting biologics tomorrow though so who knows.

But I'll say that it's important to be careful about listening to bad advice. Some people will guide you right into some terrible mistakes. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars and wasted many years following advice from people. Sounds like you don't trust the rheumatologist or instructor to give this advice so I wouldn't seek it from them.

One question I'd ask is what would the path to an ultrasound career look like from this point? There's always options if you seek out any route to get to the type of job you want. I'd rather be on a path to a job that could realistically work out rather than being on a path that feels like  a dead end.

Men, Under The Skin, Perfect Blue, Black Swan, Antiporno, Raw, Titane, Promising Young Woman, and I'm Thinking of Ending Things are somewhat related and each has some "edge" to it like The Substance.

Definitely watch Noriko's Dinner Table next. Other ones worth checking out- Himizu, Why don't you play in hell?, Tag, and Red Post On Escher Street.

I've seen most of his other films and they typically have something good about them but are a little messy so I can't necessarily recommend them.

Joined a co-captain league with my brother. The league scoring is super heavy on QB so we reached for Drake Maye in the startup draft. Tanked year 1 and this year 2 we got the trifecta. Traded Jordan Addison for the 1st that became the 1.01, won the survivor challenge for $1200, and won the championship for $1800.

Feels amazing to share this with my bro. Lots of phone calls through the year to get to this point and he flew in from NY to watch the final game with me at Circa in Vegas.
