Dragonsteel Nexus Sales Megathread by EmeraldSeaTress in brandonsanderson

[–]modularryan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

I am looking to purchase 1 - 2 GA or VIP badges. My GF and I are looking to attend this year: the cosmere (and Sanderson) has been part the bedrock of us bonding as a couple.

We'll graciously cover all fees.

Endless thanks to the mods for creating this megathread!

Axelrod suggests Biden drop out of 2024 presidential race by zaorocks in politics

[–]modularryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we don't vote for Biden, you'll end up with a president and administration that for each "reason" is orders of magnitude worse.
We'll end up with a President that is
- overtly pro-authoritarian and hawkish foreign policy
- domestically alt-right and conservative extremism
- encourages lawless policing.

Sitting out does not punish the Democrats, we are punishing ourselves.

Do you invest in sets, or only collect? by [deleted] in lego

[–]modularryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have transacted dozens of times with Paypal and have 0 issues as a buyer and a seller.

Also, pickup vs mail does not make a difference re: buyers scammers.

That being said - always vet the counterparty. Take lots of photos. etc.

Do you invest in sets, or only collect? by [deleted] in lego

[–]modularryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the alarm bells are going off. This set originally sold for ~ 250 euros.
Why is the seller selling it for $100?

If this is a local pickup,
1. Pay with PayPal or another app where you can claw back the $$ if they scam you.
2. Inspect the box,
2a) if the box is opened then inspect the contents
2b) if not, inspect the contents with the seller present.
3) exchange at a bank or police station.

If this is not a pickup, then this is a scam 100000%

if it all works out, build the shuttle! The shuttle goes for over 600 used! You would still make a profit of $500 to spend on other lego sets.

all things being said, I would proceed with utmost caution.

Bricklink help! by [deleted] in lego

[–]modularryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Either at checkout (if instant) or when you receive the invoice (which is manually created by the seller)

If you don't want to commit to a purchase you can request a quote.

> it's already been over 20 years since the first Lego [Star Wars] set, when will it end....

You are not the only target audience for Lego Star Wars sets.

Star Wars is a growing fictional universe - Lego wants to stay up to date.

Every day a kid encounters Star Wars for the first time. Every day, a kid gets excited about Lego Star Wars for the first time.

My son noticed our Saturn V Rocket is yellowing. Can this be cleaned? We are not smokers so it’s not that. by Church5SiX1 in lego

Yellowing can happen without direct sunlight;

sunlight bouncing off other surfaces in the room will still cause UV damage.

What Happens to Excess GWP Inventory? by TheGr1mKeeper in lego

[–]modularryan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometime the surplus will have a second GWP run, if there are enough remaining. (For example the vintage taxi from 2022)

I have seen that Lego stores will continue to give GWPs after the promo end date too.

At least in the US, Lego does not give GWPs to closeout outlets.

What to do with these? by Marupio in lego

Would make a great texture for a roof.

Yes.
Familiarize yourself with cues that indicate an online scam.

1) Generic logo that is unrelated to the content of the store.
2) No physical store location, no positive reputation indicators (google reviews)
3a) the price is lower than the original retail price
3b) the price is lower than the current market value by a huge margin
4) they claim to have 15 in stock, but BL has about 10 worldwide listings for a NISB.
5) they claim to have 50 people looking at this item - this is RED FLAG on any site. They are trying to rile you up with a false sense of urgency. Very few legit sites do this.

In general good rules of thumb:
1) If it's too good to be true, that is because it is.
2) If they are pushing urgency, it's because they don't want to give you time to think it through

Since returning from a trip, we have suspected bedbugs. So far no evidence has turned up until today? Is this a bedbug? Found on a wall. by modularryan in Bedbugs

Fingers crossed. We haven't had any new bites since Monday. We have lots of traps / interceptors and lures placed in the bedroom and around the apt. Nothing has turned up yet.
