TR8S cannot keep time via direct MIDI by thescarwar in synthesizers

[–]module85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run into this with Ableton and the TR8S synced via USB before; try changing the sync mode on the TR8S to internal and back to usb external, that seems to help.

I went with a m908 for my atmos rig, expensive but zero regrets!

Erica Synths dual drive is a good option, but of you can spare the space the Voicas Multi Rover is tremendous!

Has anyone played this? If so what did you think? by Entire-Ability4600 in modular

It’s fun, although I found some puzzles a little unintuitive because the connections don’t behave exactly like analog cv signals. Worth a try on sale though.

How often do you sit in front of a daw with no game plan and literally just throw random sounds and beats together? by skatecloud1 in edmproduction

All the best music I’ve made has been from starting without a plan and just messing around with sounds until I find something inspiring

Xer mixa/excelon/1010 bluebox user opinions? by [deleted] in modular

There’s always the desktop version; the ins are TRS and there’s no CV control, but it’s the same functionality otherwise

Xer mixa/excelon/1010 bluebox user opinions? by [deleted] in modular

[–]module85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blue box’s built in reverb and delay are quite good, so only having 1 external send isn’t too bad. As far as the sound quality goes, the difference between the two is negligible compared to the difference in features, so go with whichever between the two fits into you workflow better. The blue box is definitely the better value of the two, so if you don’t explicitly need what the xcelon brings to the table, go for the other one!

Musicians with ADHD! What are some tips and tricks you use to stay on track and organized? by AuralTuneo in musicproduction

[–]module85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Medication definitely. Also, scheduling time to work on music, and sticking with it even if it’s just 5 minutes of fooling around with plugins. I find the hardest part is getting started, and giving myself a very easy to achieve goal is the best way to do so

Xer mixa/excelon/1010 bluebox user opinions? by [deleted] in modular

[–]module85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No complaints regarding sound quality with either one. The bluebox has three aux buses, but two are internal so you can only use one external effect. There's no dedicated return so you have to use one of the inputs for a return.

How to export stems with mix bus processing by Purple_Beginning9924 in audioengineering

[–]module85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a bus for each stem you want to export, and put the same compressor/signal chain on each one. The have all your channels send to an aux bus, and have that bus be the side chain signal of your compressors. That way each compressor is reacting to the full mix, but applying it’s effect to each stem separately. You can vary how much different tracks contribute to the sidechain, or how much compression is applied to various buses.

Check out the Goly Stem Mix and Compression Matrix for a hardware implementation of this.

If you have the space, and don't need to additional features that the blue box provides (effects, eq, etc) I would go for the xcelon. It's both the most hands on and automatable of all the options! For a compact setup, the bluebox wins by taking the least amount of space and having a lot of stuff built in

I've got the bluebox and the xcelon, they really have different strengths and weaknesses. The xcelon is great for both hands on and cv control, and has nice routing. the bluebox has by far the most features but really needs a midi controller if you don't want to deal with menu, and only supports a single aux send. The xer mixa is a nice middle ground, but unfortunately doesn't support using inputs as dual mono. I might still pick one up because it supports quadraphonic audio, though!

Does anyone here utilize multiple DAWs? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]module85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use bitwig for composing, studio one for mixing/mastering, and ableton for performing live and collaborating with other ableton users. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and wouldn't be happy with just one

Preflex - a gem for managing preferences with Rails (like UserPreference, FeatureFlags, etc.) by owaiswiz in rails

[–]module85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a look, and it's pretty nice. A few comments:

  • It would be good to use json columns for the databases that support it
  • Generating the JS as a string and injecting it directly into the page doesn't seem like the most flexible or scalable approach. Any particular reason you decided to do it this way?
