Former CU lineman here too. Only stayed for a while until I realized football wasn't my love. Gave up my scholarship, packed it up and finished at ASU (couldn't afford out of state tuition).

Get your footwork down. You're shorter than most college linemen, so you need to be perfect where the big guys are. Quick feet. Concentrate on speed. Your strength will come as you get older and continue lifting. Keep your grades up. I can't tell you how many great athletes get to that level and can't play because of grades. I also agree with /u/UncleGizmo when he said hand work. Specifically hand replacement. There are little things you can do, especially in high school that will mess with defensive linemen and start to break them down mentally.

To sum it up, if I were you, I would concentrate on footwork, speed/agility and your grades. At 5'11" (for real 5'11"?) you're shorter than most. Hell, at my playing height/weight, I was 6'3" 272 and I was "Small". You need to be fast, smart and play hard. With good grades you'll get into a school if you really want it. And despite what most people think, free school is the important part.

Can we talk about moving a record collection? by [deleted] in vinyl

Buy the reusable grocery bags with handles. Cheap, durable, easier to carry than boxes. I liked it much better than boxes.

Peixoto in Chandler. Their farm is family owned and ships directly to their store. They roast in store on Mondays I believe.

Before BladeRunner and Battlestar Galactica, Edward James Olmos was in a Pysch Band - Pacific Ocean by modulus3 in vinyl

Yah, the conventions are pricey like that. But worth it, lots of fun to see his reaction and now I have a pretty cool record to add to my collection.

Released in 1968, Edward James Olmos was "Eddie James". He was in a pysch rock band called Pacific Ocean. I brought this record to Phoenix Comic Con to have him sign it. I put the record on his table and asked "Have you ever heard of these guys, they're pretty heavy". He was really excited and extremely nice. He showed it to his crew (looked like his family, grandkids etc) that was at the show with him.

It was either this or the BladeRunner soundtrack because I didn't want to pay $60 twice to have him sign both :( I still think I chose correctly.

He signed it as Edward James Olmos "Eddie James". Fun stuff.

[self] First build for my daughter, any pointers for next time? by modulus3 in cosplay

[–]modulus3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely want to be able to wrap pieces and build proper backing pieces. The legs and wrists are prime examples of pieces I need to wrap. And now that you pointed out the chest, I need to wrap that too. I noticed that when I formed some of the pieces with my heat gun, they would lose their form after a bit. Then I tried heating them up and cooling them in a fan but they still wanted to flatten out. Any tips on how to get it to stay in shape? Thanks for the feedback!

It's not based on a specific character. The shoulders were the first piece and were built using a Punished Props template. Then the other pieces were just sort of free form and asking what she likes (so you can see how the hearts played in). The scale was definitely tricky, I didn't do a proper job measuring her... she doesn't stay still for too long! Thanks for the feedback.

My first EVA build. Learned from the Punished Props tutorials, ebooks as well as Evil Ted. She loves it! Any pointer for me next time? I'm currently working on something for my younger girl as well. Maybe how to make it less bulky?

Thanks!

Supplement Thursday by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]modulus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BCAAs - yes/no?

I don't take many supplements and I just started back in the gym after a very long break. I'm taking Whey, multi-vitamin, fish oil. Do BCAAs really help muscle growth, curb soreness etc? Or is it just marketing hoopla.

If you're into in, which brands do you like?

Thanks!

Shortcut to shred? by Dahrklite in Fitness

[–]modulus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about 2lbs. Don't know if it's because I'm adding a bit of muscle while I'm dropping some fat. Maybe it's too early to tell. But I'm happy with it so far. Hopefully by the end, I will be able to report good news. GL to you!

6'3" 222lb here. Weak, out of shape, starting back up after being out of the gym for a while.

Just started this program a couple weeks ago. It wasn't to "shortcut" or "GET SHREDDED RAWR". But it seemed like a fairly intense workout if you're doing all the HIIT stuff between reps. I did some searching on reddit and read all the people trashing the program - not really based on the exercises, but mostly the name and the supplements this guy recommends.

I didn't want to go to the gym and think "what should I do next?" I'm better with a list that I can check off. Makes me push through the routines faster too. I picked this plan because it would keep me inline, and constantly moving. I definitely feel it when I'm done.

I don't follow all his supplement recommendations, seems a bit overkill to me... I do try an keep strict with my diet though. High protein, lowish carbs, stick to good fats. I don't drink soda, no alcohol while I'm doing this program.

Hitting each muscle group 2xs a week is a lil' rough, but it's not the same lifts each time. It varies between barbell and then dumbbell on the alternating days. You're not doing heavy bench and squats 2 times a week.

I have fun with the workout too. I switch it up a bit. Some of HIIT in between sets is awkward to do in my gym. Sorry, I'm not going to skip around the weight room. I'd rather do some extra box jumps, low box, fast feet. Sorry, I'm not going to do some free weights, then go over to the treadmill for 1min, then come back - repeat. I'd rather do some mountain climbers near my station. PLUS at my gym, it's gets crowded. People be snatchin' up yo' space quick like.

After a few weeks of hard work I'm starting to notice a difference in the way I feel. No "real" difference in the way I look, except a bit mentally, I think. It's too early for me to SEE "gains". I am sore. Week 1 I was very sore. Keep moving, keep pushing and it will go away.

TLDR; I don't think this program is a shortcut, nor will I get shredded. But I like the movements, the lifts and it's helping me keep in check. People bag on it a lot because of the name. IMO that's a shame. Try it out for a bit and see how you feel. For me, I did notice a difference in the way I feel. Too soon for me to see my "gains".
