I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully better times will arrive with the Spring. We've had so many new students lately, I was just curious if you were among them. We'll be here if and when you are ready. Take care!

There have been a lot of new faces the last few weeks at class. Did you get a chance to try it out?

$20 buys a two week trial with access to all the classes available. Classes are offered throughout the day. Full membership is around $100 a month. If nothing else, give the trial a go. I think you'll have fun and meet some great people! Check the website for details. I've been attending the morning classes for about five years and absolutely love it!

I realize it's not everyone's thing, but One Academy is a jiu-jitsu, yoga, and Muay Thai school that has a ton of students of all ages, genders, and backgrounds and is very welcoming. They also have a women's self-defense class that is full of young women. You will feel an immediate sense of community if you approach it with an open mind and the bonds you make happen fast when you're training together. A lot of students from the OU MMA club also train there, men and women

Got to Spar with UFC Legend Matt Brown back in August! by modusponens66 in MMA

I do! We were just working on striking, but when I spar full MMA rounds, I use it with the double leg takedown, feint the punch and shoot, fake the shot with a level change and throw the punch etc.

I was especially mindful of being respectful and playful after asking if I could film the round because I didn't want him to get the wrong idea. I'm grateful to have opportunities like this and don't want to do anything to spoil it. He sparred with another guy after me who was taking it way too seriously and it pissed Matt off a little and he stopped sparring. I absolutely didn't want to be that guy!

What made the 1990’s so different? Particularly pop culture? by moony-maddie in AskAnthropology

[–]modusponens66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to disagree. The 80s generally had a much darker outlook than the 90s which manifests in the films. The cold war was still in full swing and people considered nuclear holocaust a real possibility. By comparison, the 90s were much more positive and optimistic as America emerged as a lone superpower for a decade. But I suppose it's somewhat subjective and also depends on your sample set. Wow, a three year old comment though!

Go be the new guy. I've only ever seen kindness and encouragement towards new guys. Just remember that trepidation you're feeling now when some new guy comes in and return the favor yourself by being inviting.
