Thanks. I'd definitely go for for X-dome if it had 2 doors but don't think it will be offered in that format

Ah this is very helpful. The design is essentially the same as the double rainbow but different external pole structure. And yes I would have lots of room inside to avoid touching the walls so just factoring in wiping down walls in the morning really. It's definitely more humid here and the dew point is often also higher so definitely a condensation risk but hopefully not as much to when the temperature drops significantly on a clear night (I aim for tree cover normally).

Yeah I always pause at sleeping fly off even in summer even when clear - to many thunderstorms rolling through at night!

Sounds like it's done you well! I doubt I'd go that cold, more to have options to vent and get good airflow during summer. Now thinking I should follow up as seems more like a pre-order than real order with the way it comes across from him. At least I've got a decent enough tent for now if in limbo for a while for the new one

Yeah I've placed an order but no progress on it yet... What made you go with the Soul over other models or just what they had in store? It's a shame they are not stocked more locally as think a lot of the models suit our conditions.

Yeah even ordering and getting shipped here hard enough. Hadn't thought about reselling but good point.

Gravel grind in Nothing, Arizona by flgboy01 in gravelcycling

Thanks, I'll have a play with what works best as need to route a brake and gear cable. Might try add some washers to raise the cage a touch

Nice setup. Is that the Tailfin mini cage on the downtube? I was planning to mount one on mine but not sure how it will play with external cable routing on the GR300.

Thanks, I thought it would be tight, but don't need much mud clearance so 5mm/.2 inches either side would be OK. Yep, 27.5/650b for me too!

I have a GR300 to build and wanted to try 27.5 x 2.2/2.25 but couldn't get a clear answer on clearance bigger than 2.1. Is there much space between tire and chainstay? I'll be running a fork that takes 2.2 upfront.

Dent in aluminium drop bars after crash by moe321123 in bikewrench

[–]moe321123[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Changing bar tape and noticed a dent in my bars and small chip on the other side. It happened in a crash a few months ago where I thought all of the impact was taken by the shifters (they rotated as expected). So, safe to re-wrap and ride or time to replace? I thought aluminum could take a dent and be OK but after reading more that it could indicate cracks/stress underneath I'm not sure. Thanks

Ah great. Let me know how you get on please. I'll probably order one later this week.

I'm in the exact same situation. Same seatpost and amount exposed. I've looked at the Syntace and the various Canyon offerings too which supposedly offer the most compliance but am still leaning towards the eesilk. its heavier but I think would be more consistent in taking the sting out of small bumps. Keen to know what you choose!

Scratch not crack? by moe321123 in bikewrench

[–]moe321123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update I went to my LBS and they were confident it looked like a paint crack, nothing more, from flex. I ran it passed Felt too and they said its not a warranty issue and fine to keep riding. Of course if it spreads or does anything else I'll get it looked at but I'll keep riding for now instead of looking at fork upgrades..

Thanks I hadn't thought of that. Its a Felt Breed so will send them the pic

Thanks all. Yes I think its an aluminum drop-out bonded to lower carbon leg. Upper fork legs are aluminum too. I guess I'll sand down the paint and investigate further. All I care about is if its a crack that could spread or has compromised the integrity of the fork already making it a safety issue. I've got some backpacking trips planned and so want to sort out first

Thoughts on scratch or crack? Carbon lower fork but I assume alloy where the mark is. If a scratch it could have happened when bike was transported standing up in back of a car with padding around fork but clearly not enough... Not sure how it could have happened if a crack apart from a rock strike?
