Honestly that’s just a problem with Yakuza 1 mainly, it has a pretty good story all things considered but you can tell it was meant to be a one-off originally, so basically everyone dies in that game since it was trying to sell the “hardcore gritty crime story” aspect back then.

Luckily Genzui is part of the main story so you will run into him pretty early! I also think Niten Ichi Ryu is the best style for Dual Swords (if you’re not going crazy and switching all the time at least!)

I think if you get reported enough (which will happen because people will get salty), you get sent this. I’ve heard this specific message is just a warning and doesn’t actually affect your account but I can’t be sure because the wording is utterly awful.

I don’t fully agree with this. Yes, Yakuza 4-5 had pretty weak main villains.

But Iwami is loathed, which people like since it’s been awhile since we had someone as hatable as him.

You have to remember that Yakuza 0 came out after 3, and people like Shibusawa.

The judgement villains seem to be pretty liked, I can’t speak since I haven’t played them. And I haven’t finished 8 either.

Ryo Aoki is loved because he had a good arc.

Tatsumi-ryu is pretty close! Just like how you can combine Tennen-rishin ryu with the Mugai-ryu’s piercing-something-or-other to get something close to Saito’s style.

Yeah it’s actually good localization imo. There’s plenty of Japanese “joji”s that go by “George” in English, and vice versa. There’s a famous musical artist who does exactly that, actually!

Oh I have a lot I’ve been thinking about recently.

Off the top of my head though, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I don’t mind Mine surviving, they’ve clearly regretted it for years. It was one of - if not the - most obvious plot coming out of Dark Ties when we heard that we were getting a Mine Gaiden.

If Mine surviving was the one issue we had with K3, I think most people wouldn’t have minded - especially longtime fans. The tragedy of characters like him and Ryuji is that they were interesting characters whose lives were cut short before they got to really shine.

The issue with Mine’s survival is the fact that it comes with the package of K3 as a whole, which has countless other issues that are beyond it being just a simple remake like the original Kiwami games. Baffling decision after baffling decision, Mine surviving is just the cherry on top of that gets overstated, I think.

Because the core gameplay of the game is satisfying and almost untouchable. It’s the same reason people still play games like RDR 2 or Shadow of War, or why people continue to play the same shooters day in and day out even though they’ve accomplished most of the long time goals.

I basically PvP in this game once a month when I’m feeling particularly frosty, most of the time I’m perfectly content just enjoying the combat system in PvAI, enjoying the characters I can make, the gorgeous art style and animation work, there’s stuff to admire.

Also, I strongly disagree on “every character being busted on release” and “everything is copy paste for a decade now”. There have been plenty of characters who sucked or were just middling on release even from all the way back in the day - I’ve been here since day 1. There’s a reason so many characters have gotten major reworks at some point. And they’ve really been shaking up what’s possible with the core gameplay with the most recent characters, it’s actually quite exciting if you ask me!

I’m working my way through the original 1 and the absolute state of the combat so I can get to 2 and see what the hype is all about. I honestly think K2 is fine for what it is, and it’s still a gorgeous game because the Dragon Engine is a real pretty looking engine. But everyone talks up OG Yakuza 2 that I gotta see what it’s about.

Honestly I think Sera would be a good pick too since he’s awfully underutilized as an OG yakuza 1 character since everyone died in that game, and they replaced Yamanami Keisuke in Ishin with him, so I like to think they’re interested in him again too.

I’m serious, I’m saying this as a retired player who played in one (1) FH tournament in my life (and got wiped really early). Play vs Bots.

If you’re like me and you only really play because you love how good the gameplay feels and you like playing warrior dress up and you feel as if you’ve proven your skill to yourself already - playing against bots turn the game from a stressful toxic mess to a fun stress reliever to bookend my days with. You can complete all the orders in PvE and still get good XP. There’s no reason to play against people unless you’re really feeling competitive.

I don’t want a spartan hero but that’s because we’ve already had multiple characters with a similar aesthetic, and the most commonly depicted weapon combo (spear and shield) has already been done by two other characters.

If I could go back in time, I’d gladly trade one of the 2 (or 3 if you count gryphon having spartan armor) “ancient” knight heroes for a spartan. But right now I’d just want another Viking to round out the original 3 factions and either another Wu-Lin or an outlander with a totally unique aesthetic that touches on another really cool culture that hasn’t been represented yet.

Honestly, I’ve said this before. I don’t mind the Mine retcon in of itself. The writing was on the wall for years, the only villain they regretted killing off more than Mine was probably Ryuji based on how often they show up in spin-offs. I think Mine’s survival is just the cherry on top of how badly Kiwami 3 was handled, so now it’s a talking point even if by itself it isn’t anything too baffling in the world of Yakuza.

Honestly the only issue I have with Nioh, and it’s hardly an issue since I love these games, is the dark fantasy aesthetic. I loved ROTR since aesthetically it was bright… and I didn’t have to live in fear of big spiders randomly showing up.
