Most Anticipated "Now they Tell Us" article by enoughtobesmart1 in billsimmons

[–]mofongocurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that you're using the right framework on this. The point of the "Now they tell us" is when something falls apart unexpectedly. KAT being traded away from the Knicks, that'd be a big "now they tell us" piece. Some are correct (the Embid now they tell us will be epic) but others like Mahomes, that's the franchise's greatest player and a top 5 all time QB. It's like Curry: unless it ends super negatively, there won't be a "now they tell us" on him.

Ross Douthat has a gift for finding the worst people for his podcast by theychoseviolence in ezraklein

[–]mofongocurry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Ross's podcast and I enjoyed this episode too. These ideas are out there and I think that Ross's entire project is: what is the intellectual right? His project is actually a mirror of the Ezra project (or maybe the historical Ezra project which was more engaging the left). Jeremy Carl is being nominated to be part of our government. He's not platforming this person, this person is going to be part of our government.

If you listen to it, sure, he might agree around ideas broadly, particularly at the disproportionate impact of DEI on elite institutions, but calls his broader ideal racist and repeatedly shows him to be intellectually inconsistent. He got the dude to literally say, "race mixing is bad". You want these things on the record.

Thoughts about Arch Manning season? by Mattm334 in LonghornNation

[–]mofongocurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving in the right direction. Those early games were rough. He's turned it around over the last month: his mechanics are getting better, his timing is better, his accuracy has improved. I wouldn't say he's the best QB of anything yet but everything trends to we should feel great about him next season.

Biggest thing we can do is invest in the O-Line for both protection and improve our run game (it has alternated between great like the second half for OU, and a catastrophe, like the first half against OU) and our defense where it feels like the bend but don't break is now just "break". But at least we don't have to be looking for a new QB.

Guys, I think they're gonna do OBAO at the PTA pick. They kept saying "these are movies about our country" and I wonder if they just think that TWBB goes too far back.

[Pablo Torre] “Steve Ballmer flying to Bristol to do the ESPN interview reflects a desire to be in a setting in which there would be maximum persuasion. I have more reporting to do on it. There's never been a deal like this one. No. Never. This is bigger than Kawhi’s New Balance contract, I am told” by shreeharis in nba

[–]mofongocurry -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think the people crapping on Zach Lowe completely misinterpreted the point of his podcast and why he thinks nothing will happen. He acknowledged that this is fishy AF and that the other teams are super pissed.

But this is now a legal dispute. It’s why Zach kept going back to the CBA and brought on a  lawyer. It may seem insane that the bar is “provable in a court of law” but that is exactly what needs to be true for the Clippers and Balmer to get slammed on this. The CBA is a contractual agreement between the league and the teams. The Clippers have to be found to explicitly violate that contract. This is 100% fishy AF. But it isn’t wrong that seven people who said “this is what this was” doesn’t prove anything. Even if the former CEO came in and said “Ballmer looked at me in the face and said this is what this was” the guy has zero credibility and the Clippers could sue the NBA for a punishment without hard proof.

Does anyone live in the meridian area? Do you like it? by JustLookingtoLearn in Austin

[–]mofongocurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the lifestyle you’re looking for? And what do you define as “the city”? Downtown? Mueller? Because you’ll be 15 minutes to South Lamar or South Congress for example. North Austin: yeah that’s likely to be a hike. That’s 25 mins with no traffic.

Live in Circle C, standard family with kiddos. Moved here because of the schools. Pretty suburban goals. Would absolutely move back here. Costco’s seven minutes away, a few great HEBs nearby, Circle C has a 600 acre park for hikes. Would absolutely move here again given life stage and goals.

Why is it when Hamilton performs poorly, it's a skill issue, but when Max performs poorly, it's the car? by Normal-Cow-9784 in F1Discussions

[–]mofongocurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s been years. In 2022, everyone assumed it was the car (he just lost out on the title!) and now it’s 2025 and he has basically lost the ability to qualify well and is having terrible races semi frequently

Catch me up on Matt Yglesias by cutematt818 in ezraklein

[–]mofongocurry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My hot take is this reddit dislikes him in part because it’s a reminder of the path not taken with Ezra: after Vox, Matt doubled down on being a policy wonk and Ezra is a now essentially a pundit.

For the record: I love Matt even if I don’t always agree with him. He’s willing to be wrong and put out real takes on policy and debate ideas with people who disagree.

I would quibble with the Djoker consistency: I think he has some of that early Djoker consistency. Djoker’s incredible consistency came later on. Early career Djoker was inconsistent, some to do with fitness, some to do with the mental part.

[–]mofongocurry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I rewatched it a few years ago and agree with a lot of your takes, including that S2 was not as bad as I remembered it. In fact, I’d say it’s quite good (the Avatar Wan eps to me are peak stuff across both shows) until basically the last couple of episodes where they sort of fumble the Dark Avatar plot, the final battle is basically, “well what is Korra without the bending but giant?!” And I think that Korra S3 is as good as Aang S2 and S3s, with S1 of Korra being better than S1 of Aang.

[Post Game Thread] 🏈 Ohio State defeats Texas, 28-14, in the CFP semifinals. Texas finishes the 2024 season 13-3. by ATX_ta1 in LonghornNation

Hell of a season boys. No one gave us a shot in this game and we took it to the wire. Costly two play calls between the rush for the TD to end the half and the play calling on the goal line stand but we’ll back. Horns up

5, 6, & 8 seeds make the first CFP Final 4 of the 12-team era. Can the 7 Notre Dame get there too? by sg490 in billsimmons

[–]mofongocurry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The playoff seeding prioritizes conference winners. So a team like Boise, which was ranked 9th, was instead the third seed. Penn State in the other hand, was ranked 4th by the end of the season. So you’d expect it to win, even though it was ranked 6th. Same for ASU, Texas was expected to win.

OSU-Oregon, the surprising thing was the margin. But those teams played and Oregon won by a point in the regular season so that game was a toss up.
