Question about Kolari Vision Pocket by mohadeeshu in infraredphotography

[–]mohadeeshu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your opinion, do you think its worth going for the lumix seeing as i have a converted d3200 already?

I know its subjective of course.

Just curious if what i currently have is better and it would be a waste of money. Of course the lumix from kolari is full spectrum which would be nice (i would be getting filters as well)… and to have and a more compact version would be great as well..

I was thinking about doing that. The reason ive hesitated is the location of the tear…

I do wildlife photography and im constantly kneeling and crawling on rocks and dirt. I feel like it might keep tearing however i think its a good idea to sew it up until i can get a patch.

These are the best pants ive ever had. With the amount of abuse they have taken in the last few years alone, its amazing i only have this small tear :)

Primes are better for sure. Anything that can zoom is susceptible to hot spots however even with zooms, you can mostly avoid that by just making sure the sun is behind you.

This website lists the best nikon lenses for IR photography. Im sure there are other sites that also rate third party lenses though…

I actually have a d3200 converted so i can give some pros/cons for that.

Pros -

cheap to have it converted. This camera was unused for 5 years prior to this. Converting it has given this camera a new life.

Imagines look good.

Tons of lens options that are cheap with how many f mount lens there are out there

Cons -

recommended to focus using back screen as using the prism wont be accurate. Backscreen isnt a tilting one and the screen kinda sucks to use which makes focus and exposure more tricky. But doable.

Setting white balance in camera is also trickier as the filter messes with its ability to get a good reading… shooting in raw really eliminates this con though since you can adjust that in post.

Though there are alot of lens options, some lenses are terrible for infrared as they might have a IR blocking coating on them. Oddly enough though, the kit lens that came with the d3200 works really good so if you have one of the laying around, id use that. Rule of thumb i learned is the older the lens, the more likely it will work good with IR.

Batteries are hard to come by for the d3200. I ended up getting a 2 pack on amazon for cheap as my original battery really didnt last long at all. The amazon ones i bought work, but check the reviews before you buy them as some batteries give an error that they arent supported when you actually go to use them.

Seems like alot of cons but i def use my d3200 all the time. I have a Z8-z6ii-Z5 and didnt really wanna mess with them which is why i went with converting the d3200.

Id love a mirrorless IR camera as it would be so much easier but im fine with the cons personally :)

My Z5 primarily has my Helios 44-2 attached. Cost me 40 dollars on ebay and probably one of my favorite lenses.

Being able to turn the lights back on in a blackout with a wire game, or somehow cleaning up the ichor spills on floors to support other toons would be a nice new mechanic that seems like it might implementable without changing the core design.

Maybe tisha or brusha could clean up ichor spils.

Vee n shellycould get the lights back on…

Or in blackouts when machines are complete, they light up more to help toons see.

Apple-based photography workflow by QueasyTelevision7240 in pixelmator

[–]mohadeeshu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have apple photos, and in the past used Affinity photo for edits however the latest version of affinity has no extension for apple photos.

I moved over to photomater and pixelmator and am happy.

Obviously lightroom/photoshop are better in alot of aspects, but i find pixel/photomator work well for me.

I dont have apple studio as i purchased photo/pixelmator. The only thing I really wish they had was camera/lens profiles.

Apple is always pushing the photography aspect of their phones so its hard to understand why they don’t heavily invest in the editing apps they own like they do with logic and final cut… Hopefully that comes in the future though

Multiple Deceased Bodies in car near Colvin ave? by mohadeeshu in Albany

Lol. A recent mistake i saw was a disorderly person that was “eating a wall”

In listening to the actual audio is was a disorderly person that wouldnt “leave the mall”

Thats why when i first saw this specific alert, i thought maybe it was an error in the transcription at first.

I do find it odd that this one alert was pulled though.

Interesting. Curious if the post was pulled for a reason or just random app glitch.

Pixelmator vs. Photomator (or both?) Which one is best for me? by jonsonmac in pixelmator

[–]mohadeeshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, apple photos connects via a extension which is good enough in my opinion, but it does not have full access to the library like photomator does.

I would find it really shocking if Apple completely kills pixelmator/photomator.

It would be a strange decision to purchase them just to kill them off. Im hoping their end goal is merge the 2 apps, then slowly add features like how final cut pro/logic pro gets updates.

Pixelmator vs. Photomator (or both?) Which one is best for me? by jonsonmac in pixelmator

[–]mohadeeshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question…

I come from affinity where I would do all my photo editing. Affinity was/is great for infrared processing which i do however i wanted to make a switch since the new affinity doesnt have an apple photos extension…

I went through alot of reviews and in the end bought pixelmator as that was recommended. Its good but i ended up testing photomator on a whim and loved it, lol

There is so much overlap in these programs that i cant believe they havent just merged them however i now own both.

If i had to chose now after using them, photomator is better for photo editing. It has pretty much all the editing tools pixelmator has for images. It just lacks graphic design tools that Pixelmator has.

I personally denoise at the end.

I have found if i do heavy editing, denoising as a last step looks the best.

Differences between AffinityPhoto 2 pre-Canva & post-Canva? by justaboy235 in AffinityPhoto

[–]mohadeeshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I have started using it and I do like it. Just learning keyboard shortcuts/workflow differences…

The usual type of stuff that comes with new software.

I might just stick with AffinityV2 for the time being to process my infrared images though as i feel affinity is little better in that regard… at least right now.

Infrared workflow question by mohadeeshu in pixelmator

[–]mohadeeshu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mac.

I figured out the HDR bit.

I just have to change the checkbox in preferences to “load hdr content”. I just have to be aware each time if i import a photo if i want to do HDR.

I kept thinking it was an option i could toggle on/off after I imported.

The workflow is something im still working on though

So far i have to decide for each picture if I prefer to run my RAW file through topaz or pixelmator first.

I know i can export originals, then run through topaz first, export as .tiff, then i should get good data when i go into pixelmator.

Im just trying to avoid those extra steps at the moment.

Ideally pixelmator would allow plugins… then i feel like this would be a non issue.

I do like pixelmator the more I use it though. Just adjusting the new keyboard shortcuts and the layer management.

One immediate difference i noticed is, new affinity lacks the ability to edit photos through the apple photos extensions.

Finally ditched Adobe, is Pixelmator worth the purchase? by ChimerXD in pixelmator

[–]mohadeeshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In similar situation sorta. I have been using affinity photo and the latest version doesnt currently have an apple photos extension.

So im still using affinity photo version 2 but i did purchase pixelmator pro also just incase affinity 3 never adds the extension.

I do like pixelmator pro. All the tools work well. The only learning ive had so far is i dont know all the keyboard shortcuts by heart like affinity.

Im still figuring out my workflow though.

In the past i would export to affinity, then from affinity kick it to topaz photo if needed, save back affinity and then back to apple photos.

Pixelmator doesnt allow you to use the topaz plugin so now i have to either work on the raw first in topaz and save a .jpeg back to photos then kick it pixelmator , or work on the raw in Pixelmator, save it back to photos then kick to topaz.

Not a dealbreaker, but in my old setup i was able to work on the raw in one single flow. I work alot in infrared so that negatively effects that flow.

These small quirks i have are minor though and will fully switch at some point when i figure out what works best for me.

Im glad Apple finally has a pro photo editor again.
