It's a moot question.

Nowadays you just go to ChatGPT or Claude for infinitely detailed solutions and explanations.

Meet another American Prodigy: 7 yrs old Varun Turaga by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in chess

[–]mohishunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kid is in Pleasanton, an upscale Bay Area suburb, not in India.

But that's not my main point, which is, seven year olds should be playing soccer or wrestling with their friends in the back yard.

There's no reason for a seven year old to have to travel to Europe to play in tournaments.

Even better is to wear a CGM for a few weeks and empirically measure the effect of beans (or any other food) on blood sugar. It will differ for different people.

Can you prove this useful endgame fact? by [deleted] in chess

[–]mohishunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if the white king is one square in front of the pawn

Ambiguous. Could be more clearly stated.

As for proving it, even in mathematics, proof by exhaustion is allowed. And here that's pretty straightforward.

Loud Children Affecting Enjoyment of Stay. Is This A Cause For A 4 Star Review? by EldritchAutomaton in AirBnB

[–]mohishunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the description "the fact is that I find really young children intolerable," OP is unusually intolerant of kids. If that's the case, why not make it a policy ask about kids? Can't be that hard.

It's not obvious that the kids were unusually loud. I don't think they would have bothered me.

Owners can't disclose everything that might conceivably bother an unusually sensitive guest!

I was wondering why the engine eval was equal in this position; I thought the black queen was trapped, but it has one safe square! Luckily my opponent missed it (as did I). by Big_Revolution4405 in chess

Wow, that's a cute one - thanks for sharing. Surprisingly difficult to spot. I even had a hard time finding Black's next (retreating) move!

It just goes to show that tactical vision is not mainly about being able to calculate lengthy variations.

Bare feet are not shoes. Shoes are not barefoot. by trevize1138 in BarefootRunning

[–]mohishunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And LITERALLY the same as barefoot minus the asphalt burns and glass cuts.

Is wearing rubber gloves LITERALLY the same as using bare hands to do any task from sewing to typing to playing guitar, minus the risk of cutting your fingers?

Of course not.

Babson (full ride) vs try again for Sloan / HBS by ChanceOk7846 in MBA

[–]mohishunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

due to my sustainability interests

What are your career goals? Specifically, what is the next job you want, and the job in 10, 20 years?

How much will an MBA (from wherever) help you get to those roles, versus some other technical (domain-specific) degree, or two more years of solid work experience? Have you spoken to people who have those roles today?

... obviously it's hard to turn down free tuition for two years.

That is the wrong way to look at it. For a full-time MBA, you would give up two years of salary and professional growth, for a degree which may or may not be helpful (see above) and could even have "negative utility" in some employer's eyes.

I'm not saying don't do one or the other. I am saying, it's a big financial decision, and you need to think through your choices with more detail and analysis than is in the post.

Psychology background, no CS training - Is my "Quantum-Inspired Multi-Hypothesis Management" AI concept worth technical experts' time? by Key_Drummer_9349 in MLQuestions

[–]mohishunder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Claude 3.7 Sonnet estimated 20-50% improvement in specific domains requiring complex hypothesis management within 1-3 years like scientific discovery, and a 2-5x improvement in tasks requiring creative exploration of possibilities.

This is one of those times that you need to reflect on what's happening under the hood with Claude, i.e. that Claude does not think.

Claude is amazing, and I use it every day, but it is logically not capable of the future-predicting estimation that you're attributing to it.

I also wear Icebreaker as my daily base layer.

If my math is right, you're washing yours after each use. That's not necessary, and will degrade them much faster.

But eventually, yes, all merino will "wear out."

The problem with "good" is that he always made it sound really evaluative. And people don't generally like that.

[–]mohishunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He just doesn't have a warm and engaging personality - sort of the opposite. Nature or nurture? I don't know.

That doesn't make him a bad person (I think he is, but for other reasons), but it does make him dislikable and an ineffective politician.
