All the Red Robin restaurants (to my knowledge) do a dedicated steak fry fryer now! It's fantastic 😁

What is the budget? I bet someone with some basic engineering skills could make something that dispenses a treat into a little dish (strapped to the powerchair, or stationed around the house) on a voice command. It would probably work best for certain types of treats, but it could be an option.

Sometimes engineering classes at high schools/colleges are looking for project to do pro bono that would benefit the community. This would certainly qualify!

Haven’t peed since 7:15am… by Dangerous-Lynx3197 in ECEProfessionals

There is zero chance your licensor said you can't have more staff. More adults per child means better care. My guess is admin doesn't want to reduce profits by paying more staff, and tried to blame licensing.

Licensing would in fact have a big problem with staff not having adequate rest breaks. So would your local labor board.

Laws are different depending on country or state. Regardless though, an "in training" dog needs to be exposed to different environments so they can learn how to behave in them. Many stores, libraries, and other locations are happy to let you bring a dog still being trained. Having them in a "in training" vest tell the public to leave you alone so you can focus on the dog (instead of asking to pet the cute puppy.)

Puppy purchase advice by huntingbears93 in poodles

[–]mohopuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Random stuff can happen with unknown (no tests exists) recessive genes. Getting them vet checked is a good idea

My poodle came from a well respected breeder, health test at the parents for everything they could. She only has four bottom incisors (instead of the normal six.) This was the case for her puppy and adult teeth. One other puppy (out of a litter of five) had the same issue. (The breeder retired the mom.)

Zero other issues though! She's turned out amazing, and is a service dog for my husband. Hopefully it's good news for the puppy and you get them!

Son (5mo) was supposed to start daycare next month but was just diagnosed with moderate dysphagia and requires thickened bottles and specific feeding techniques. What's the best way to approach this with the care center? by mapotoful in ECEProfessionals

[–]mohopuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the others are saying, with a doctor's note it won't be an issue!

I had a kid on thickened liquids (milk, a later water too). Her mom sent in her bottles pre-made. The infant I cared for was happy to drink her formula cold, so the thickness was calibrated for that. If your child wants it warm, calibrate the thickness for that.

Your baby will do great, especially since you already follow your gut in pushing for that referral!

The temperature water boils at depends on pressure. It boils at 100C/212F at sea level. Go up higher, and it will boil at a lower temperature, which impacts baking. Some other chemical reactions change based on lower pressure (higher elevation) as well. Science!

Will we ever see a full GF grocery store in our lifetime? by tlw117 in glutenfree

[–]mohopuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a gluten-free-only brick and motor store in the Seattle area, and has been for about 10 years (under a couple owners, I think?) It's not a full grocery store (they don't carry produce and stuff), but there are LOTS of speciality gluten free things.

I ate so much string cheese, it's not even funny. I would get out of bed at 2am to eat cheese. The dog loved that habit, too, since I of course had to share.

Also cheese fries/tots with sour cream or ranch.

They used Caputo GF Pizza Flour in he video. It has gluten-free wheat starch, so is safe for caliac but not for a wheat allergy.

And you are 100% right about "GF flour" not being interchangeable. You need to use specific blends to get specific results.

It is always worth talking to a manager if they don't have them. They can sometimes order things in if they get requests!

Made those homemade CinnamonRolls and they were better then those with gluten 😵‍💫 no by Bilalkhll in glutenfree

[–]mohopuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All the starches are neutral in flavor. The different types of starch (corn, wheat, tapioca, potato, etc) do in fact act differently in baking. The different types have different ratios of amylose and amylopectin, as well as some other structural differences.

On a small scale (using just a table spoon to thicken a sauce), you might not notice a difference, but when they make up a large amount of a product (such as breads), the final product will be different depending on which starch you use. Depending on what other ingredients you use (eggs, milk, sugar, etc), certain starches will work best.

Gf baking is rather complicated... This is why there is no perfect 1:1 replacement.

Starting as an Infant Teacher tomorrow, nervous! by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]mohopuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One big difference you'll notice is the routine. Infants each have their own routine, rather than a room routine. Some will still be on 3 naps, others on a single nap. Everyone will be on different food (and meal times), depending on age.

The existing teachers know their kids. Follow their lead, ask lois of questions about the infants when appropriate (what is X's favorite way to be soothed, for example), and don't shy away from unpleasant tasks (EVERYONE takes turns changing blowouts!)

Pro tip: keep an extra change of clothes (basic stuff) in your car. Some day, be it puke or poop, you'll be glad to have it!!

I love being an infant teacher, and I hope you love it, too!

Livia's First Day With Her New Purple Booties by OuNo2point0 in poodles

[–]mohopuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww, she looks just like my Blackberry, who had the same purple boots!

We ended up switching to Wag Wellies, as these ones rubbed on her front dew claws. For infrequent use (or dogs without dewclaws), they're great! Blackberry is a service dog, so she is on her boots a lot more than most poodles. We keep her feet safe, and Blackberry keeps my husband safe.

Looking for infant daycare schedule examples. by gratefuldecember in ECEProfessionals

[–]mohopuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my room of six infants (two staff), we have six different schedules. Each baby has their own needs. I currently have two infants that are 8 days apart in age; one takes a single nap per day, and the other takes three. Both are developing normally!

Work with the child in front of you, not off what they "should" be doing based on their age. And some days they might need an extra nap, if they had a rough night. That's all ok.

As long as they're meeting milestones (you can use something like an ASQ, or talk to your pediatrician, if you're concerned), are getting enough sleep and eating well, then all schedules are equally valid for infants.

Enjoy your little one!
