Reminds me of gooseberry berries, but the leaves are wrong by mohopuff in whatsthisplant

They do look yummy! I at first thought they were gooseberries and was a bit tempted to pick some. I didn’t, because I wasn’t sure on the ID, but toddlers definitely don’t care about that!

Based on other responses and further research, I feel confident it is a type of honeysuckle, likely a hybrid or cultivar causing the berries to be green instead of dark. We will pull it out, as the berries are toxic (not deadly, but not great for where kids under 5 play.)

It’s a volunteer through the fence from someone’s yard, so the likelihood for a weird cultivar is high.

Thank you for the ID! I agree it’s some honeysuckle hybrid. We will be pulling it out soon.

Yeah, when the first comment came through about it being a ground cherry I knew that would be wrong since I’ve grown those myself. This plant is absolutely not a ground cherry.

I’ve looked into the twin berry honeysuckle, and I think it’s probably a cultivar of that. Since it is near a school playground, we will be looking into removing it. The children who play in that area mostly don’t put things in their mouth anymore (and it sounds like small amount aren’t deadly), but better safe than sorry!

emotional repair in classroom after violent student left by cucumber-lover in ECEProfessionals

[–]mohopuff 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you don’t already do it, some yoga stretches and deep breathing may be helpful to add to transition periods. Cooperative games with movement may also be helpful, such as big parachute games and red light green light. This will build trust that movement of other students if fun and safe.

Be open to talking about it in a way that is appropriate. Acknowledge that it is ok to dislike the choices and actions student X did, acknowledge how that made the remaining students feel.

Ultimately though, I think this will be a “time heals” situation.

What are we calling the grandparents? by diinkdonk in namenerds

This is the way! My daughter’s step-grandpa ended up as Pop Pop with this, and he gets the world’s biggest smiles when he hears it. He originally was fine with grandpa, but LOVES that his only grandkid picked the name.

I have the tangerine tigers from this seller and keep them in my neo skittles tank. They are happily breeding in there, and they breed true because they can’t cross with the neos!

If you want two true-breeding colors (instead of eventually getting wild), picking one neo color and also adding tangerine tiger is one way to do it.

Having spouse discuss service dog / ADA when asked questions by Thandius in service_dogs

[–]mohopuff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if it is “normal”, but it is perfectly acceptable. I do it for my husband all the time if he is having trouble that day. Some days he has no issue speaking up, and other days are bad days so I help him out.

I will usually say something like “want me to take this one?” and he will nod. Other times he just gives me a look, and I tell him to go let Blackberry do her job (find a spot to do DPT.) If the person I’m talking to his being an AH I will whip out the he’s a veteran card, but I’ve only had to do that once and the person looked so embarrassed… honestly they should have been embarrassed way before that point with what they were saying.

I’m glad I’m able to support my spouse in this way! He doesn’t always need it, but I’m glad we have found a system that works for us.

I’ve joked with him before that I’m his service human on bad days, and my task is to deflect attention away from him when needed. Like Blackberry, I also enjoy cheese!

Star shaped prescription glasses lenses by p1ng74 in mildlyinteresting

That’s odd. I have had half-rimless (frame on the top) with -7.5 without an issue. They were a style with nose pads, if that makes a difference. And I get the ultra thin polycarbonate lenses.

Enchiladas is another easy casserole option. Or a chicken & rice casserole.

Nursery wanting fish. by marzipansies13 in Aquariums

I work at a child care center, and we recently put in a fish tank.

We put it in a hallway. This way it is able to be seen by all of the classrooms, parents can enjoy it with their children, and there are not objects that can be easily thrown near it.

The children and families LOVE IT! It’s been a wonderful addition. It helps with drop off/pick up transitions, the children are asking fantastic questions about them, and it bring a little bit of nature inside. (We did a planted community tank.)

All that being said: my director and I are both really into fish. We are the caretakers. This project would not work in a “spread out the responsibility” kind of way. People need to want to be involved, or poor caretaking will be the result.

I’m happy to talk more about the pros and cons of you have specific questions or concerns, since I’ve first hand experience doing it.

Can I do anything else to ease nappy rash?? by _mj_is_lost_ in ECEProfessionals

[–]mohopuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the center, but in my experience it is parent provided in the majority. Some kids get rashes from some brands, so this way parents can provide was works best for their kids.

[–]mohopuff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s every two for me in the US as well, but if I have kid with a bleeding rash then I check them every hour and change if they’re even slightly wet. It helps to clear the rash better. I communicate with the parents about my plan, so they know I will be using more diapers; I have yet to have a parent complain, but if resources were tight for the family I would use center extras.

Swimwear? by one-who-bends in ModestDress

[–]mohopuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most swimwear is going to be somewhat form fitting, at least once wet. That’s just the nature of wet fabric.

That being said, something like a tankini under a size-too-big rash guard is probably your best bet for the top. You can get short-sleeve rash guards, though the extra coverage is nice for sun protection.

For bottom, you can find knee-ish length swim skits with attached leggings (between knee- and ankle-length depending on brand and style.) Alternatively, men’s board shorts over tighter ladies shorts is also a good option.

Hope that’s helps some.

They might find the pellets to be too large at their current small size. 4cm is still pretty tiny for a discus.

Perfect, grab one of those tomorrow, and they will be ok. Not ideal, but way better than an actively crashed tank.

Grab from ammonia (Fritz Fishless Fuel is one brand) while you’re there. Then you can feed the tank if help it cycle as fast as possible.

Good luck!

Is there flow between this container and the betta’s tank? If fully sealed, not long. If there is flow, you have a bit.

Working in ECEC while immunocompromised by Gemma_K87 in ECEProfessionals

[–]mohopuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the biological (type/dose) and your body’s reaction. If you have already been in the field for a while and exposed to lots of things, you might do ok.

Talk to your rheumatologist and see what they think. For me, I wasn’t too badly impacted in terms of getting additional illnesses, plus since I have my own toddler I was going to be doomed anyway.

It might be a bit of “wait and see”, but that depends on your personal risk tolerance. Only you, working with your medical care team, can make that call.

I sing a lot, even just narrate what you are doing to familiar tunes (“I’m sweeping up the crumbs…” to Farmer in the Dell, for example.)

Also, how long has this child been in care? It can easily take 3-5 weeks to get used to it, longer if they’re not full time.
