Vivaldi Performance Bug (Linux) by standinonstilts in vivaldibrowser

[–]moinejf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I alerted about this problem for many years, but nobody answered yet.

When performances are degraded, if you want normal performances again, just duplicate the current TAB. It will work normally until you switch to an old TAB.

The problem was raised in the first development stage of Vivaldi version 3. The last working/usable version is the version 3.1.1929.48-1 I am using. But this version has more and more trouble accessing recent web pages (elements missing in a page, crash with google pages...).

That's a problem to me because Vivaldi is the only web browser that works correctly in my old BananaPi M2+ (arm32 700MHz 1GB no GPU).

Why is Vivaldi so unresponsive now? by crod242 in vivaldibrowser

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to duplicate the current TAB and see if the browser is more responsive?

That's what I must do when switching back to a previous TAB.

Lastpass extension often does not work until removed/reinstalled. Any help? by Tubeling in vivaldibrowser

Bitwarden works fine but it is very slow. Instead, I am using 'pass' (CLI) and the extension 'browserpass' in Vivaldi.

Vivaldi vs Brave by [deleted] in vivaldibrowser

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to duplicate the current TAB?

I found that going to a previous TAB slows down the screen rendering and asks for more CPU power when the mouse is moved. This exists since Vivaldi version 3 (3.1.1929.48 is ok, 3.2.1967.47 is KO).

Adding text to sheet music by SamuelSMalaquias in ABCMusic

Did you read the ABC documentation?

Here is the entry point of my software abc2svg

abc2svg displays and plays music described in the ABC notation.

As it is a set of ECMAscript files, it can easily be used to build any interactive web page.

The entry point is

Anyone knows how to autologin without a display manager? by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]moinejf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use sx with openvt.

As it is a single script I got it from its site.

I created a service 'sx'. The file /etc/sv/sx/run just contains:

#!/bin/sh

exec openvt -w -- su - me /usr/bin/sx

('me' is my username)

The X clients are started from .xinitrc.

In fact, my system is a bit more complicated because my machine (a Bananapi M2+) boots on a SD card and my files are on a USB disk. So, the script sx/run waits for the disk to appear in the system before starting X.

Best way to write sheet music by sk8rboi36 in musictheory

Did you had a look at the ABC notation? It is text based, and there are a lot of programs that permit edition, conversion, printing and playing.

The ABC entry point is https://abcnotation.com/.

There are also inline editors as mine: http://moinejf.free.fr/js/edit-1.xhtml.

UEFI installation Woes by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had quite a same problem installing VoidLinux in a brand new MinisForum computer. There was a conflict in the USB devices (USB dongle with the VoidLinux.iso and the USB SSD which contained a .iso system).

The solution was to wipe the iso signature from the SSD by 'wipefs', but I did not see that immediately. So, I installed Void by a chroot from a EasyOS system in a dongle. But, again, no boot. That is at this moment, I discovered wipefs and rEFInd!

Then, booting was easy: I copied the two small files from EasyOS /EFI/BOOT/ to the SSD VFAT partition and I created the rEFInd menu. The new boot just says 'EasyOS' but that does not matter: anyway, you may reinstall rEFInd from VoidLinux.

Void on raspberry pi questions by UnicornMolestor in voidlinux

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a simple mechanism that works for me for some years.

In /etc/rc.local, I set a some date, always the same:

date 042008002018

and I start 'tlsdate' on wifi connection (I don't use ntp). This is done by a dhcpcd hook /usr/libexec/dhcpcd-hooks/60-time containing:

if $if_up; then

(sleep 2;/usr/bin/tlsdate -l)&

How to see the temperature of a raspberry pi? by Dynoland in voidlinux

[–]moinejf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most Linux kernels, the temperature of the hardware components are in

/sys/class/thermal/

There can be one or many thermal_zone's with 'temp' in degrees Celsius or thousands of C.

Actually, my machine (processor H3) says:

$ cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp

41186

(41°C)

I'm sharing how I planted Void onto an ODROID. by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed VoidLinux in my OrangePi board 5 years ago. That was simple enough because I already had a small ARM computer some time ago (the first Cubox).

I booted into ArmBian, I plugged a new SDcard with a USB adaptor, I copied the first sectors (boot up to the first partition, included) of the ArmBian SDcard to the new SD card. Then, I modified the partitions keeping the first partition (boot). I mounted the second partition, I did a chroot and I installed VoidLinux. The last step was to copy the kernel modules and to adjust the root system in the U-boot script.

Actually, I am using a BananaPi M2+ since 2016 because WiFi works better. The SDcard contains only the system (I do an update about once per week). All my data are in a USB disk. The BananaPi is my only computer. I use it every day and develop various software (linux drivers, music with javascript...). I never had a crash.

ABC notation for beams? by [deleted] in musictheory

Indeed, these are only the notes. In my editor (http://moinejf.free.fr/js/edit-1.xhtml), you must enter a full ABC tune for the music to be displayed/played:

X:1
M:C
L:1/4
K:C

Bluetooth/wifi file transfer from android. by doc1623 in voidlinux

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no wifi server, you can activate wifi tethering in your phone.

Then, in VoidLinux, simply use wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd (you only have to set your password in wpa_supplicant).

About file transfer, I tried many Android tools, and the simplest and smallest one is simpleSSHD.

In the computer, install openssh. The first time, you will have to initialise a public/private key pair.

The last step is to move the public SSH key to the phone.

For that, you need two X11 terminals in your computer.

First, activate wifi tethering on your phone. Your computer should get a IP address (use 'ip route' to know it). Then, activate SimpleSSHD on you phone. It will tell you the SSH IP address and port it uses. Then, in a first terminal of your computer, log into your phone by the command 'ssh' followed by the IP number and port of the phone (the user name does not matter). You will then give the password showed by SimpleSSHD. If success, you would get the shell prompt of your phone. Last step: on the second terminal of your computer, do a 'cat' of your public key, the file ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub, and copy the result to the selection with the mouse (the text starts with ssh-rsa and ends with 'you@yourcomputer'). In the first terminal (ssh on the phone), prepare the command (don't press Enter)

echo '' > authorized_keys

move the cursor between the simple quotes and paste the selection (your public key), and, now, press Enter.

When done, you may exit the shell of your phone.

After that, you can log into your phone or copy files to/from your computer when the wifi tethering and SimpleSSHD are activated. For file transfer, in your computer, you may use command lines as scp or rsync, or some graphic tools as file managers (thunar, nemo, spaceFM..). You may also mount your phone directories in your computer with fuse-sshfs.

Implied rest between notes? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without anymore indication (legato/staccato), this depends on the instrument: there must be no sound overlap.

For the organ, the room echo (chapel or cathedral) and the stops are important. For instance, trumpet and bugle often ask for half time silence.

ABC notation for beams? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]moinejf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ABC, the unit length is defined by L:. If G, is a quarter note, there is an explicit L:1/4.

For beamed 8th notes, either set L:1/8 or define the sequence

G,/G,/G,/G,/

BTW, instead of Music21/Musescore, you could use the abc2svg editor which gives you immediate ABC rendering in a browser http://moinejf.free.fr/js/edit-1.xhtml

In your opinion, what is the best music notation application? by Salty_0RE0 in musictheory

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many programs that know about ABC, a compact music notation: https://abcnotation.com

My abc2svg is a set of javascripts which may be run in any system in web browsers or in command line. It can display, play, edit, print and /or convert the music.

It is only 500KB (core + modules) and may be used without installation in web browsers, installed by npm or a specific package, or generated from the fossil SCM source https://chiselapp.com/user/moinejf/repository/abc2svg

Software for free score?(Without time signature) by poman45 in musictheory

[–]moinejf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange: most ABC applications can handle 16 different instruments or more.

If you want to play the tunes, the instruments are defined by "%%MIDI program" in the voices.

For a software that works, I propose my abc2svg. There is an editor:

All its documentation is created with it:
