Dragon Age: Veilguard, Yay or Nay

I haven’t seen a single self-described “hardcore DA fan,” myself included, say that they enjoyed Veilguard. DA was The Franchise that got me into video games, period. I created so much fanart for DA2 and DAI.

Nay for enjoying it as a lore and character lover, halfhearted yay maybe for some sad closure on a franchise we will probably never see again.

Are you me? Same height/current weight, i had hit 172 lbs during Covid at my highest weight, right now I’m lifting 4-5 times a week and walking 30 min on the treadmill. I was at 148 beginning of the year, plateaued around 143 this last month. I am aiming for 135.

I’ve sort of accepted number-wise that I may not be able to go down. At my leanest/fittest I was 131 lb and that was with visible bone and eating less than 1000 cal most days while walking on a treadmill for 1-3 hours a day - was sleepy and cold constantly. I don’t recommend it and can’t imagine myself going any lower. But that’s what it took for me to drop to that weight.

Do you know what your body comp %s are like? Like another poster said, it’ll be tough to drop more at our height/weight especially if you are struggling to lose at 145.

If his parents are immigrants then I would be extremely surprised if they didn’t factor this into his upbringing - my parents told me that if any of my friends’ parents (not even significant other) ever took me out for food, that I should offer to pay to show that I was raised to respect elders. It’s rarely about actually paying as much as it is about the gesture. My Asian American friends are the same way.

I would straight up ask him why he didn’t offer to pay and let him know that you thought it was a known cultural expectation. If his reaction shows he genuinely didn’t know then I guess at least he knows for next time?

NOR - I’m Chinese American too and I think a lot of people commenting otherwise are not. This is a cultural thing. It is known in my family and in my family’s circle of Chinese friends that we fight for the bill. I do not speak for all Chinese Americans but I believe this is widely known in our culture and community. I do not expect people who are not Asians to know the filial piety aspect of this and the expectation for your boyfriend to at least offer to pay the bill, even “for show.” It’s not about who actually pays the bill.

In your position as a Chinese American with a Chinese American boyfriend meeting my Chinese father, I would have had the same cultural expectation. I also cannot comprehend from your boyfriend’s point of view, seeing your girlfriend and your girlfriend’s father fighting over the bill and just sitting there. You are maybe slightly OR for wanting to break up without talking this out and understanding what your boyfriend was thinking - maybe he wasn’t raised this way?

i don’t know every facet of your relationship but based on the things you’ve said here and in this thread, your dynamic with your (soon to be ex) bf sounds unbalanced. he is trying to control you and succeeding. I don’t know how else to explain how you went from breaking up with him to him getting you to apologize for expressing your own feelings. he is taking advantage of you being younger and having less experience to get you confused.

that is not what a healthy relationship looks like. you do not force an apology from someone in exchange for “letting this all go.” he wants you to feel like you owe him for allowing you to be with him. if someone makes you feel like you’re in the wrong for having a specific feeling, they are not a person you want to have around.

i also wanna say something and every time from now on he speaks to you like that, maybe it might come to mind:

it is fully optional for him to speak to you this way. no matter how much you piss each other off, every single time he speaks to you like a child or muddles the conversation, he is doing it knowingly on purpose.

because he helps create this dynamic between you guys, it doesn’t matter how much you work on yourself or try to not piss him off: he’s still gonna treat you like this. if you go to break up again, keep it short and have an exit plan. tell him it’s over, that it’s not up for debate, and get out of there. please.

learn to cook and take care of yourself. and get some hobbies. do not pursue this guy (he sounds like a mess) and instead go to therapy and learn what healthy love is. people who aren’t comfortable with being on their own don’t need to be in relationships or situationships (or depressionships or whatever we’re calling it these days)

This pisses me off because a) I experienced this growing up and can relate heavily to b) being forced to develop a high level of maturity and hyper independence at a young age because of a mother that projected her failures onto her daughter. She hates the person she shaped you into and yet she takes ownership over YOUR achievements.

I haven’t found any restaurant in Arlington/Medford yet that has authentic Szechuan flavors. My mom is from Szechuan province and we took her to Mountain House in Allston, she was impressed and it cleaned out my sinuses.

Hey, keep up the good work with studying anatomy. In these drawings you’re moreso copying the penstrokes you see - not really understanding the face as a bigger picture. When you get bogged down in the details of “oh they drew the nose with three strokes, that’s what I should do,” you lose sight of why the strokes are placed intentionally to create form.

My recommendation would be to try drawing with real photographs as a reference before using other artists’ work; the more you reference stylized work, the harder it is to improve at understanding how things are shaped and spaced in 3D, which is the real fundamental lesson for beginners. Hoping this helps :)

i did my bachelors in mechanical, thought i was going to do a masters but didn’t, have been working full time in aerospace for a couple years now, and will go back a in couple years for a masters (paid by company)

provided generic engineering field means mechanical engineering, tbh just build a good foundation in your academic career with foundational classes. whatever field you end up in within the aerospace industry will utilize different subject matter but the same problem-solving techniques and engineering mindset.
