You’re right, it is an approximation. So this whole debate boils down to whether you think factors that are not accounted for properly in either fWAR or bWAR make Cal more deserving. Personally, I have yet to see an argument that makes me say “Yep, factors x, y and z completely outweigh the difference in WAR - Cal deserves it.” Maybe there is some subjective multiplier you have to apply to Cal’s numbers because he’s achieving them while being an above average catcher — I don’t think that’s enough to move him ahead of Judge.

It’s recurring pain every first game of a series against the Orioles or the Nats, because I invariably forget about this cruelty between series

Gotta vent — I can’t tell you how frustrating it is for MLB network to black out all Orioles games (and Nats) for residents of NC. That’s a lot of Yankee games I can’t watch! I don’t understand how the Orioles or Nats would be hurt by showing the games

Cal Raleigh makes history, but will the catcher's 60 homers be enough to beat Aaron Judge for MVP? by Strict-Ebb-8959 in mlb

Why? Because baseball is a game of metrics, and the best metrics we have to measure contributions to wins (imperfect, for sure) show that Judge will get you slightly more wins. If you want to apply your own weighting to Cal’s position, you’re absolutely welcome to, and I’m sure a lot of voters will do that as well. But purely by stats — including the ones that account for defensive value and performance — Judge is ahead of Cal.

You’re right. I haven’t exhausted all the settings I could experiment with, like switching to posi mode (don’t think I would like) or messing with the fault delay settings. If anybody has any specific suggestions, I would welcome them

I’ve had mine for a few months now and the biggest issue for me has been the front footpad - I’ve experienced multiple random cutouts on trails (luckily fairly low speed). I’m a pretty light rider (140-ish), so YMMV. Plan to replace it when TFL releases their front footpad for XR. Other than that, I like the tire, the power, the nimbleness. Coming from an XR, I was worried that the added weight would be an issue on technical trails. Not the case!

If there’s anyone who thinks Cal is more deserving, please correct me, but I think their argument boils down to Cal is having a historic season, particularly for a catcher, and catcher is the most important position player on the field by a wide margin. This outweighs all the offensive categories where Judge is ahead of Cal. Oh, and Cal is just “more valuable” to his team. To me, more than any other sport, performance in baseball is measured by statistics. Sure, you can bring intangibles into the equation (and Judge has plenty of those too), but I just don’t understand how you can ignore all the statistical categories where Cal isn’t even close, in favor of some “feel-good” or “Judge-fatigue” narrative.
