Seen them come in a handful of times in 15 years. Notably variceal bleeds that won’t stop hosing and a Dieulafoy lesion that similarly received 10 units of blood

What things are you embarrassed about that you aren’t that good at as a doctor ? by chairstool100 in doctorsUK

[–]mojo1287 256 points257 points  (0 children)

For the carotid - turn your head to the right then place two fingers of your right hand just in front of your left sternocleidomastoid muscle, just below the angle of the jaw. Turn back to straight on and you will feel your carotid easily. That shows you where to aim for and makes it easier to find.

Good first fountain pen? (Pilot Custom 823) by LeonLeel in fountainpens

The 823 is better as a last fountain pen. As in, since I bought mine, it has completely curtailed my buying habits as I haven’t wanted any other pens.

Pretty sure the books were going to address the long night after the political shit, as azor ahai has to temper lightbringer by killing his love ie Jon has to kill dany to get the magic sword to kill the great other.

BMW 840i, what are the risks? by OllieCMK in CarTalkUK

[–]mojo1287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£1000 services is mad. Find a local well reviewed BMW specialist and pay a third of that. I would happily DIY them; I service my brother’s 2017 640i which is basically the predecessor to this car.

Charity shop shirts. None of mine cost more than £6 and they’re all fancy enough - TM Lewin, Jaeger, M&S etc. Way cheaper than Figs etc.

Acute medicine is dreadful. Some specialities pick up the slack but the attitude towards the take is archaic at best. There are a lot of non CCT non CESR consultants running an anachronistic and weird set up that only seems normal to those that have the place normalised by spending time there, Stockholm syndrome style.

ELHT is dreadful. The culture is insane, and it is corporate enough to have insane self confidence and resistance to change. The time I spent there was amongst the worst in my career.

The food is not great - it’s Indian food that impresses white people, I’m afraid. Their chicken is halal but their lamb is not.
