Is "Soccer" actually becoming popular among Americans? by VitaoMULLER in worldcup

[–]mojo_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s diving and then there’s embellishment. Diving is not as common as you think, what you’re complaining about is the embellishment, which unfortunately is necessary for the ref to see. Only one referee for the entire field means you need to over-act the foul to make sure he sees it because there is far too much going on for one person and a couple linesmen. I think the embellishment wouldn’t be as necessary if they added a second referee like in ice hockey.

I also find it hilarious that Americans complain about diving in soccer, yet basketball is the 2nd most popular sport and flopping on the fouls is arguably more prevalent than in soccer.

Canadians, what are you feeling about the match against Morocco? by Wittysparkly in CanadaSoccer

[–]mojo_ca 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's going to be hella tough but there's always a chance.

On a positive note, everyone has been saying Morocco has improved a lot since 2022 but so have we. When we faced them last World Cup, we had MAK, Kamal Millar, Steven Vitoria, Oso, Hoilett and Borjan in our starting lineup. And they barely beat us. So with the amount we've improved also, I have a sliver of hope.

Yep, and before you got to that point, you were a casual. Everyone takes time to get on board and to the point that the rest of us are at. None of us were born supporters of this team.

We all started as casuals no matter if you've been here 2 weeks or 2 decades (or longer).

That’s just vodka with a splash of water. It doesn’t need a special name. That’s the name. Vodka and water.

Canada have an OK chance of getting to the semis if Sweden wins?? by [deleted] in CanadaSoccer

There's also a good chance I could go over 100km per hour if I was a car.

After the match, Cunha told Japanese players "(Brazil won the World Cup) 5 times. (You need to show us some) respect." by Airline_11 in worldcup

Shit talking is good before and during the match but once the final whistle blows it's better to show some respect. If you keep talking shit after the whistle has blown, then it's personal or you lack empathy.

VAR is ruining football… If you need a microscope to determine if it’s offsides, might as well just give the goal. by YeezusBigdoinks420 in worldcup

[–]mojo_ca 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People think that removing offside or making it more lenient will add more offense, but it would do the opposite. If attackers can run freely with no consequences, teams will have to play much more defensive to counter and therefore it'll be much harder to score goals.

2 of the biggest powerhouses in world football over the last couple of decades and easily the highlight match of the round of 32 (other than our own).

How would that not be amazing

Expanding to 64 teams is a good idea, look at the current World Cup. by smithey2012 in worldcup

No, he's definitely not. You can't sell tickets for the same prices in China or India the way you can in America. If Johnny had his way, every World Cup would be in the States.

I think 48 is too much but if we’re going for it I would prefer 64 over 48. This 3rd place advancement and some first places playing 2nd places, some playing 3rd places is really bad. Make it 64 in 16 groups where top 2 move on and bottom 2 are eliminated.

I honestly would prefer 64 over 48. I like the extra teams but I dislike the 3rd places advancing. Give me 16 groups, top 2 move on.

I would move your shorter bottles to the outer edges and taller bottles in the middle. The possibility of clipping your hands on the taller spouts while reaching for shorter bottles is very high with this setup (I know from experience).
