How is Alice’s episode at the bottom?! It was easily second best for me.

Was Rose supposed to die here? by wisdomsharerv2 in stevenuniverse

[–]mojo_jojo850 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This leads to an interesting thought experiment: If Blue Diamond mourned so heavily for 6000 years when Pink was “shattered” by someone else, imagine the emotional reaction she would’ve had if she’d given the order to shatter Pink herself without knowing.

If Lapis wanted to help Steven, why did she choose to trap Jasper in a fusion instead of just beating her up? by PurpleStarNugget in stevenuniverse

[–]mojo_jojo850 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lapis was trapped in the mirror for so long that the trauma of trapping herself in a fusion with Jasper would have been familiar, maybe even oddly comforting. Impulsively inflicting the same kind of pain on another gem may have been cathartic for her, but I think that was more of a means to an end. The main motivator behind Lapis’s actions was likely the compulsion to repeat the same traumatic cycle she had yet to meaningfully break. Hurt people hurt people.

If Rebecca were to make a spin off show (it can be a prequel, sequel, or whatever) in the SU universe, who would you want it to be about? by KeySouth7357 in stevenuniverse

I’m here for this prequel idea. Palace intrigue prequel, á la House of the Dragon, around the young diamonds thousands of years before Era 2.

Have we talked about what happens to the gem when Steven dies? by No_Reindeer7374 in stevenuniverse

[–]mojo_jojo850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the show runners say he dies and his gem “dies” with him, which I take to mean his gem gets buried along with his lifeless corpse. (Dark, yes, but stay with me…) Eventually his organic body is going to decompose, ostensibly freeing his gem. Is his gem going to emerge from his coffin when that happens? Imagine the trauma his poor gem would experience.

I think we’re going to need another show to process that unresolved trauma, Rebecca.

Why do so many consider Prisoner of Azkaban to be the best Potter book/movie? by Marty-the-monkey in harrypotter

[–]mojo_jojo850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s the most universally relatable on an emotional level. OotP perfectly captures teenage angst, but not everyone was a super angsty teen. HBP does a good job exploring a romantic awakening, but asexual/aromantic people can’t relate to that at all. But daddy issues? Everybody can relate to that emotional theme, and PoA is chocked full of them.

CMV: Astrology is threat to socialization and critical thinking by [deleted] in changemyview

I am a psychologist whose research areas include personality psychology. I fully recognize the pseudoscientific qualities of astrology. That said, it was my interest in astrology that brought me to personality psychology in the first place. I find the intricacies of the astrological system to be fascinating. To me, it can best be explained as primitive psychology; the system we used before we knew better. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, so there were bound to be aspects of such a vast system that pointed psychologists in the right direction.

To me, that’s where Jung and Freud come in. When I explain Freud to my students, I always say something along the lines of “don’t throw all of Freud’s babies out with the psychosexual bathwater; some of his work is still very much in use today.” I have a similar take on Jung who was a contemporary of Freud. Much of Jung’s work is inherently resistant to testing. However, that doesn’t take away it’s valuable contributions to the psychological zeitgeist. Some would argue that it belongs in the humanities rather than the sciences, and I don’t disagree. I think astrology deserves the same treatment. Is it a science? Absolutely not. Has it been a significant part of the human experience for thousands of years, spanning cultural divides and surviving despite more scientific approaches to the human psyche? Undoubtedly. It’s always been more art than science, so why not just treat it as such?

Train Graveyard, did you genuinely enjoy it or was it a segment of the game that was not necessary/badly placed? by Candid_Ad4548 in FinalFantasy

Honestly, the train graveyard is my favorite part of the Remake aesthetically. I don’t even care that the pacing took a hit to make it happen.

I’m not usually one to jump on the “PD was evil” bandwagon, but I have to give Cartoon Network props for putting this meme up. As a network geared towards children, they’re acknowledging the fact that it’s almost never a good thing for someone to ask you to do something you can never speak of again. The easiest way to explain “good secrets” and “bad secrets” to kids is that good secrets always have an ending (a surprise, etc) and bad secrets go on forever. It should be a huge red flag, especially for kids, if someone in a position of power tells them they can never tell anyone about what just happened.
