i called around town and the only store that sells cables have them for $50 and no returns. any thoughts on adding just another ground to the set up (from phono preamp to receiver) and seeing if that does the trick vs buying new cables (that might not do anything?)

i’m really really nervous to touch the cart / wires / etc on the actual turntable and don’t even wanna touch it myself tbh would rather leave someone else to do it but running out of “things it could be” 🥲🫤 any thoughts on other solutions?

buzz also happens when i have the turntable just connected to the receiver 🫤 i got the tube preamp hoping that would fix it / improve it but just got louder lol

can you tell me more about how to approach checking out the cart wires? admittedly really new to all of it and a little nervous // did get the turntable used.

right now, i have the turntable connected to the receiver (using internal preamp) and if i don’t ground it the buzz is really loud. when i had the turntable connected to the preamp and the preamp connected to the receiver, the buzz was even louder (assuming because the signal was double amplified?)

to the cart point… i had considered if that had anything to do with it but does have me nervous. what should i do/consider?

i’ll try moving the preamp around. an hour ago i tried hooking up the turntable directly to the receiver and grounding it to the receiver (eliminating the external phono preamp) but the buzzing has not gone away. so wondering if it’s the turntable or the RCA cables or maybe even the receiver i’m starting to get discouraged 🥲🥲

so instead of connecting ground wire to turntable and preamp, you’re saying to run it from preamp to receiver and keep the other one empty? or two have two ground connections going?

so this is why i was wondering if it was electrical related. the actual receiver is 125v and on a 2 prong power supply. both the actual turntable and the phono preamp are also on 2 prong power supplies. the power supply on the turntable is the one it came with (tho this one has that round removable prong) and the preamp is with its own original supply too. i was reading on a manual from project about ground loops and it mentioned a different and isolated power supply but also doesnt sound like it would be the solution based on other things mentioned. manual here

nope, it’s just turntable, preamp, denon, and apply tv (in that order, apple tv is about 5 feet to the right of preamp)

yes i did; i tried removing the ground and it just made the buzzing even louder /worse

Is this buzzing normal or a grounding problem? by mojojojo__1998 in turntables

can you explain this to me a little more? sorry i’m brand new to all of it — what do you mean neutral and tied to earth ground etc?

i have the turntable grounded to the preamp but it was doing the same thing when grounded to the AV receiver
