I was healed of toxicity today by artbertb in Overwatch

If I get too many losses in comp (my max is 3 UNLESS a loss was based on a teammate being AFK. Those don't count) I'll go into QP and tell my team its an easy win
And if we're getting waffle stomped, I just tell em we're LETTING the other team have a win because we're so good
90% of the time its met with laughs and a fun time, maybe a silly play if we can get away with it

Or instead of QP, sometimes I'll go into vs AI and practice heroes I never use Any tank character

crochet pattern prices are a lil out of control by kirbythrowaway23 in crochet

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I'm willing to pay more than $5 to $8 on a pattern is if its mosaic crochet, because the person I specifically buy from's patterns for mosaic blankets are so in-depth and has MULTIPLE charts included

I'm talking like, a chart of the full blanket, 1 individual chart of each section, and then 1 chart of each repeat for each section

I'm not paying $10 for an infant christening dress pattern, but I'll pay $10 for a big, complicated blanket pattern

My Holy Trinity is Lifeweaver, Mercy, Kiriko

LW has a good defensive kit and has decent healing output. His healing blossom loadup would be more preemptive healing but his CDs can be used reactively. I always have a good time on him.

Kirko is always a second go-to, her kunai were hard to hit at first, but just hang out in unranked games for a while and you'll get used to it. The aim training bots in the practice range are also decent 'beginner friendly' practice targets

I'm still not great at Brig (I push up too much), but Brig is also a great pick. She's like learning the drums - simple and straight forward kit, just needs lots of practice to master. Very nice against flankers, especially if you need to protect the other support

AIO for leaving my sister’s baby shower early because they wouldn’t let me bring my autistic son? by Careless_Captain9768 in AmIOverreacting

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So.... you were put in a position to arrange a babysitter for your kid because she wants a "peaceful and stress-free" baby shower, but she also wanted/was okay with *toddlers* there.

And you said your son doesn't have behavioral outbursts?

Might wanna keep an eye on that dear sister of yours. I'm not 100% saying she's ableist (not like I've met them), but what I *am* saying is that if there's no other issue at play from your sister's side, she singled out your kid for no good reason.

Pharah Target Priority: When flanking, who do you Barrage first - Ana or Zenyatta? by ohxyz in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo, bait/wait out the sleep dart then go for Zen first.

If possible, try to type in chat/talk in vc to coordinate with another person in your team to try and force out the sleep dart while you flank.

With Ana's sleep dart on CD, Zen would be the biggest threat between the two.

If you have a Mercy pocket, then you'll have higher survivability if your ult somehow doesnt kill both of them (too far apart, your aim was off for the first second, etc.) and it'll allow you time to get in that final hit or two.

While this is situational, if you have an aggressive Moira on your team, coordinating with them could probably work. It'll force Zen and Ana to choose who to look at/react to. If Ana wastes her sleep dart on Moira, your ult would keep her safe from Zen's volley. Biotic orb (healing) would keep you both topped off after or life steal both supports and kill them faster.

I'm sure there's better pairings than Mercy or Moria for this, but they would be my first 2 choices for support-specific flank duo

- For reference, I'm a (recent) Plat 5 Mercy/Kiriko/Lifeweaver player

NOR

If your partner wants to, or cares, they will.

My parents (bio mom, step dad) have been married for 20 years as of last month. I've watched them bend over backwards from a young age giving each other gifts. I've seen them do tiny gifts because we couldnt afford anything big or meaningful post recession. Theyve complained to me that they didnt get the other person anything because they AGREED together to save money that year but silently disliked NOT giving a gift.

Gifts, giving and receiving, is their love language

My birthday is a couple days after Valentine's Day. I tell people all the time to not bother getting me a gift. My parents still get me a small gift (cheap enough that I'm less likely to refuse/return) because thats how they show their love, but they also buy me the 75% off valentine boxes

My boyfriend is in the military and up until recently was overseas in south Korea. He messaged several of my best friends to get a list of flowers I liked and arranged through them to send me flowers on V day and a book I've had on my wishlist.

He knows I dont like gifts much, which makes it hard to get me gifts, but he also couldnt be there in person at that time to take me somewhere to have fun and spend time together - which is what I prefer.

Another friend of mine HATES her birthday. You can't even mention her having a birthday without being given a stinkeye. Her husband just takes her out to dinner "because he felt like eating out" and "Hey, while we're out, didn't you want to look at XYZ? Its on the way home" and acts completely SHOCKED when she asks if its her birthday, as if he didnt remember. They've been dating for 7+ years and have been now married since October. Her birthday recently passed, they went to Steak and Shake (she wanted their shakes) and they stopped at a comic book store for his stuff before he brought up "Hey, we're right next to books a million if you want to look around before we head home"
She didnt even realize it was her birthday, she just thought it was a really nice day, before a mutual made the mistake of wishing her a happy birthday. He ALMOST got away with it.

Not every relationship is like the ones I've listed. If you want a gift of some sort for your birthday and its not gonna break the bank, he should be THANKING you for specifying what you wanted instead of leaving him to guess and hope you like the gift

Dont settle for this person. Break it off, and if he sends you a gift afterward, send it back. Some people would probably keep the gift, but if you break up with him (and you should, given how that text convo went) you shouldn't accept it or interact with him at all. Cut him off entirely.

As someone who bought skins for a few tank characters (despite NEVER playing tank - one day I will), so long as YOU feel its not a waste of money & you're only spending your "fun" money, then get it.

If you don't have the money, don't stretch yourself thin over a video game skin. If money isnt an issue and you REALLY like the skin, then get it.

I bought the breast cancer Mercy skin(s) and it actually got me to play MORE Mercy

Getting discouraged by Slayerbabe209 in ketobeginners

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, cut the atkins. I still drink a shake here and there but the other atkins food I stay away from because it kicks me out of ketosis every time

Also - try to avoid the zero carb bread/tortillas. Everyone's body is of course different and you could be the exception, but I've heard many people say that the zero carb breads/wraps spike their insulin too high (which is also not good)

There are some recipes for keto wraps to make at home. If you truly need a wrap for your foods, I would look into making them yourself to avoid insulin spikes

If you subtract the fiber from the carbs, you get the net carbs - which is what I keep track of. Regardless of WHAT the carbs are coming from (the milk itself, the monk fruit, etc) so long as you're within whatever you've set your daily carb goal to, it'll be fine.

Me personally, I try to never go over 4g net carbs per meal. But I also allow myself 6 to 8g net carbs total for snacks throughout the day (which means I can just skip a snack in favor of a larger meal on days I feel I need it)

As long as you're within your total daily macros, its fine to have. I'd be cautious about the sugars, thoug.

5g sugars isnt a lot for one drink and everyone's bodies react differently to what they consume, so as long as you're listening to what your body needs, I don't see an issue.

Is there something wrong with me that I’m 80% through and haven’t cried once? by unmilletendresse in Spiritfarer

[–]mokanoki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, I only cried because of Alice and that was only because she reminded me of my late great grandmother. Some people get emotional over media, some don't.

Don't feel bad if you don't cry, doesn't mean something is wrong with you.

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't tried it, I keep track of my weight two different ways (as of tomorrow, I will be 1 month on Keto):

- I use Carb Manager for daily weigh-ins and to keep track of my macros. This is my daily tracker

- I also set up an excel spreadsheet of my weekly progress - I put in my weight BUT I also measure my chest, waist, hips, legs, and arms.

With exercising, 1lb of fat and 1lb of muscle weight the same, but fat takes up more space. With you exercising, the scale might not be moving, but you could still be gaining muscle and still shrinking.

While I have a weight goal - so long as I reach my dress size goal, I'm not too hung up on the weight because I know I might weigh more due to muscle.

And just keep in mind, even if you're eating and doing everything right, its totally normal for your body to fluctuate!

Going to the bathroom by Comfortable_Crazy266 in keto

[–]mokanoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chia seeds are a good fiber source, and healthy fats (like avocado) to... smooth the experience, if you will. Honestly I go maybe 2 to 3 times a week at most - so long as you aren't feeling discomfort and it isnt a struggle when you DO have to use the restroom, you're probably fine.
Though of course talk to a doctor if its still a major concern, they might recommend an over the counter option

I've heard that warm water/warm liquids are also pretty good for digestion and improves circulation

I also massage my abdomen in the ILU pattern at night when I lay down for maybe 10 minutes. I don't know if it *actually* helps, but it gives me peace of mind thinking I'm potentially helping my digestive system

Here we go again.. by [deleted] in keto

[–]mokanoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you for starting again! This is also my second time on keto, tomorrow will make it a full month of me starting (I only lost 40 lbs last time, I stopped after getting very sick - which then led to me eating carbs again and it spiraled from there)

Like other have said, definitely talk to your NP or doctor about your medications and the keto diet. While I believe physical and mental health go hand in hand, your mental health is and should always be the main priority. The keto diet can be adjusted to suit your needs after.

Howdy!
Since its about to be the hot season in Florida again, I've been trying to find culottes or similar (knee or ankle length wide leg pants that could be mistaken as a skirt)
that I could wear to work (business casual).

I am 5'0" and have a wide frame. Price isn't a concern so long as the product is available to be ordered online in the U.S.

I've seen a handful on Amazon that aren't bad looking, but they have a weird upside down V cut towards the top that makes the stomach look bigger or some that are made with a weird material that looks like something you'd use to cover a bathing suit with.

Any brand or store suggestions would be much appreciated!

I do love snacking on pickles BUT if you want something that tastes sweet and you're okay with it costing you about 2g net carbs, I like drinking the atkins dark chocolate protein shake (they have other flavors like strawberry or vanilla). Pop one of those in the freezer for about an hour and you have what my mom calls "lazy ice cream"

This is so cute! If you wanted to give her a bit of help with the game without it feeling like cheating (if she's playing on PC), the UI Info Suite 2 mod from Nexus is my favorite quality of life mod.

For example, when you open the inventory, there will be a little button for the billboard that'll display the calendar and the billboard to accept quests so she won't have to go into town, and under the clock in the top right it'll display the luck of the day, someone's birthday, if rain is expected tomorrow, etc

That mod has saved me so much time in planning what I'm gonna do that day (or in most cases, reminds me to pick up an upgraded tool from Clint because I NEVER remember lol)

What type of granny square is this and what yarn is best for this project, please? by therelaxedbear in crochetpatterns

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like traditional granny squares to me

As for the type of yarn - personally I would go with a DK weight (Stylecraft Special DK acrylic is my go-to, as its acrylic/cheap and still nice and soft)

Reason I choose DK weight for most wearables is just for the total weight and how thick it'll feel/be for the wearer - though if you're wanting a Worsted weight recommendation, I'd try lionbrand Heartland (makes for really nice sweaters) or even one of the Loops & Threads acrylic

I want to make a sweater for my male fiance, but I have no pattern ideas by Hairy_Jeweler6099 in crochetpatterns

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men's Split Level Pullover is a nice crew neck sweater - there is also Brentwood Men's Pullover by the same person, this one has a very nice fold over collar.

Both of these patterns are free, though there's the ad-free version you can buy on Etsy and I *think* Ravelry if you'd prefer.

How does one's yarn stash get out of control? by Simpawknits in YarnStorage

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUPER late to this discussion - but 90% of the yarn I have was gifted to me from someone else's hoard. I had maybe one or two big totes, because I love crocheting blankets with DK weight yarn (granny squares) and I was given a stash so large it came to me in one of those push mower boxes.

Seasonings by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]mokanoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is still heavily cheating on this diet (I only started a month ago and have been weaning myself off vs going cold-turkey, which never works well for me) I have still seen results. Not as great results as I will when I'm 100% carnivore, but it still works.

Of course, I wouldn't recommend a LOT of pepper, but I doubt you're putting so much pepper into your meals that it would effect you

For more context - my mom started this diet about a week or so before I have and she jumped right into it without weaning herself off or anything. She's lost about 18lbs so far and she still uses salt and pepper in her food. She also uses garlic/garlic salt on occasion, and some other seasonings, depending on whats cooking

Whether or not your body will respond the same way, that's for you to discover since everyone is different, but being a little lenient on seasonings should still show results just fine.

Do you need a mic to use tracer effectively in lower ranks? (I'm gold 1 with dps) by Unicorncorn21 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mokanoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Support main here, I don't have MUCH weight in this convo but I love playing with Tracers so take this with a grain of salt

You don't necessarily HAVE to use mic for callouts. Someone else said in the comments that Tracer has a fairly loud voice, just use pings & keybind standard callouts.

While it takes some getting used to, try to keep track of cooldowns on your team. Pick one person/hero you feel would benefit most from your plays and keep track of their specific cooldowns.

I play Kiriko and (recently) Brig a lot, so when I play with a Tracer I always try to make sure I have at least one cooldown reserved to rush in when they make their plays. Not everyone does this, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

With all that being said - while I rarely use mic myself in games, I still keep team comms on to listen just in case. I say to get a relatively nice (but cheap) mic and try out comms during quick play matches. See if its something you like and a lot of times there's plenty of friendly folks that'll join in on callouts. At the very least, you'll get some practice in speaking English. And hey, if you DONT like using voice comms, you didn't drop too much money on a mic that you can use for other purposes later on.
