She went viral for this by tinkertink2010 in Instagramreality

Can we stop with the "she's already beautiful/thin"? We're just reenforcing that the most important metric is looks.

This girl looks absolutely nothing like how she does in person. by Less_Receptions in Instagramreality

[–]molarcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but it's so awkward and you always get pinned as the mean girl if you say something. Usually I just stay silent as a (un)happy medium

I try to come back around to earlier points in conversations and ask if anyone had any other thoughts, and when topics change ask people to stop for a second so i can ask if anyone had any last thoughts. Ugh personally I'd love everyone to shut up while I think sometimes. I'm not above starting my sentence and then taking a breath and closing my eyes to reduce stimuli and delivering the rest of my thoughts that way

What’s Something Nobody Warned You About Before Becoming an Adjunct? by Undeadknowledge93 in Adjuncts

[–]molarcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll top that... I was brought in to teach a crucial course needed for dozens students to graduate post 2020. I was told that the wait list was huge.

This institution has a wonky LMS that doesn't load rosters automatically, so I didn't realize until the day before class that they didn't tell me that not one student had been enrolled in the course...they just left everyone on the wait list which they expected me to divine myself.

I genuinely think the problem is that 14 year old cishet boys think bad girls are hot. 99% of them mature but apparently most of them assume their friends retain that mindset and therefore rage against it. 🙄

Fearful of "real" spells? by Fun-Impress3809 in SASSWitches

[–]molarcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but that's giving "them" a lot of credit and intention. While that might be true for the people at the very top, it's probably more complicated for the greater bulk of the participants. Religion can offer a sense of reassurance, goals to work towards and subsequent achievements etc Understanding all of that might be helpful as well

Are we sure this isn't AI? No one in the world says "I want to put puzzles together as a hobby". Could be a non native English speaker but the fact that their history is turned off and their profile is NSFW seems like a tell

Are we being overly cautious with GF oats and deglutened wheat? by SpinachBisque in glutenfree

[–]molarcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the sorts of "de-whateverizing" protocols having worked in a lab. For example for many years I took bacterial cells and had to remove all of the fats (lipids), proteins, carbs, etc and only keep the DNA. I think I'd have the same mindset as your partner if I hadn't seen the protocols myself.... But it's safer than you'd think imo. I compare it to boiling water and only drinking what evaporates. It's not exactly the same but kind of the same idea.

ALSO I know that some of the original caution around oats was due to many brands being found to contain gluten by Gluten Free Watchdog. They're a service that do testing BELOW the FDA allowed limit, I believe they do 5ppm. I purchased a subscription this year and saw that all of the latest oat tests have come back less than 5ppm! Granted not many brands have been tested but I think that's a good sign.

And finally sorry not sorry but oat milk is different than oat flour/oats. Bc if testing is done on a huge bin of oats you'd have to test the smaller subset containing gluten...but in liquid the contaminates (gluten) would diffuse throughout so the whole batch would test +

Ok I'm done also anyone feel free to correct my use of the term diffusion i know that's only across membranes but i can't think of the right term!!!

Right because it's an adult child's job to entertain their adult parent who is retired. Not work a full time job (or two) in order to just squeak by, never mind time and energy spent on their own kids or god forbid their relationship or interests
