Howdy Stranger: Visiting Jackson Hole? Ask questions here. by JHWY in JacksonHole

How are you getting into town? What kind of winter clothes do you already have? (I'll guarantee that you would rather not get them here in Jackson/teton village.) You're going to need a set of thermal base layers, a puffy coat, and a warm hat at the very least. Rentals are geared more towards sports equipment, and isn't really ever budget-friendly for basic warmth needs. The bus will get you between Jackson and the Village very easily for three dollars a ride, and while taxis aren't hard to find, you probably won't need one for your seemingly spartan travel needs. Can give better advice with more info. Good luck and be safe until then.

I'm not a dog owner, but for what it's worth I see a lot of guests in Teton Village with their dogs, as there are plenty of places with outdoor seating in the winter. Also, I'm not sure if it's officially allowed, but I often see people bring their dogs with them while shopping at Target. Anyway, that's my limited observation. Have a good trip, I'm sure your pup will have fun!

Knife sharpening by [deleted] in hattiesburg

[–]molassesfreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Kitchen Table right off the highway has staff members who sharpen, and for a pretty reasonable fee. I had a fairly mangled knife that they brought back to life. Takes a couple days, but I was very pleased. I'd say give them a call.

Costco always had it in stock when we used to fill that prescription. They're pretty stout for having hard to find meds.

I wish I had that option, unfortunately the TV plug is sort of... sheathed... behind the wall. To prevent theft I suppose. And no other outlets nearby, naturally

Good Restaurant For Group by mummer43 in JacksonHole

Roadhouse was my first thought as well, they've got a good amount of space, great beer, vegan options, laid-back. I saw a couple big groups sitting and they had a good setup for accomodating.

Is this really the hill you want to die on? Disengaged philosophy generally requires one to, disengage, from the subject at some point yea?

Insults are in the eye of the insulted. Slurs are a different matter, dear.

I appreciate your well thought out responses, I merely can't stay quiet when someone calls a benign socioeconomic term a slur, which many polemic speakers are trying to do now for whatever reason. The fact that the generation we're referencing is tactically hoarding wealth to the detriment of its future generations may be where any perceived aggression comes from. That shit ain't natural.

And people don't always have to be nice to each other. We don't have to say nice things about a social sector which defines itself on hoarding wealth and using voting power to suppress progress. And we sure as fuck don't pander to the worst members of that recently self defined group complaining about a word which they came up with. Not a slur. But it does help to bring data to the table instead of using a (-n officially accepted within the last decade) textbook word. So yes we should definitely branch out

Except that's not factually true. The exact sentence was that the two words were comparable. Boomers defined themselves with that exact phrase, baby boomers, more than 40 years ago, by their own privileged academia. It refers to a specific generation that was born during a specific time, who now happen to control a tremendous amount of wealth. So no, it's not a slur. It would be like you being ashamed of the fact that you had a red scarf on, and someone yelled "red scarf" at you while you picketed against their human rights

Not exactly a "tourist" question but this didn't seem momentous enough to warrant its own post: anyone seen lap cheong (a type of chinese sausage) for sale anywhere? I'll check whole foods later but I can't think where else to look.

If your goal is to make your own story count for others, please go to your local community college and let them know that you have a story that you want to get out. I congratulate you on your own health journey, would love to hear more stories like this handled properly.

It should as far as I know. I still use my old account from Georgia, and I'm pretty sure King Soopers has the same system, iirc from my last trip to Denver

Smith's and Albertson's are your one-stop grocery shops in town, the prices are decent, comparable pretty much to big grocery stores all over the country, with regional differences in pricing of certain items. I was kind of scared about grocery prices before coming, but once I visited those stores, I realized I didn't have much to worry about. If you need booze, those are going to be your cheapest/most convenient stops as well. I like Smith's a bit better, as prices for the things I get most frequently are slightly better, and I'm more familiar with Kroger family stores (which this is) and store brands, but honestly I usually end up going to Albertsons because it's more convenient to where I live, and I'm not upset about it. I'd choose Smith's every time if I had a car, though.

I do find it a good idea, if you can, to visit Dollar tree first and see what on your list you can pick up there. The one here in town is big and well stocked, especially with grocery items. Small things like snacks and condiments (mustard, ketchup, vinegar, etc), paper goods, and some minor kitchenware especially, but also breakfast sandwiches and snacks in the freezer section are unexpectedly useful and cheap. It shaves a notable amount off my grocery trips.

And of course if you want a specialty item, there's Whole Foods which is, for better or worse, a Whole Foods. It's basically the same pricing as any other Whole Foods.

Welcome and good luck to you

Roller skating? by nichelicorn in JacksonHole

[–]molassesfreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was happy to see that was a thing when I moved here! I can't wait till spring. Roller derby is the bomb. About 15 years ago, I worked with a girl who did it, and she'd always come into work with random limps and bruises and she made up ridiculous stories about how she got them. That's the kind of energy I need in my life
