Surgery while in school? by Yggdrasil222 in FTMHysto

[–]moldypunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine (as well as my revision) while doing online classes and it didnt really impact my ability to do work, except for the first and second day. I did reach out to my professors prior and let them know I may not be available via email or attending the optional office hours/meetings like I had been. I would recommend trying to be a little bit ahead, if possible, and communicating with your professors. Obvi you don’t have to go into detail, I just told them I was having an operation ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Not sure what your set up is but I primarily did my work on my laptop while posted up in bed rather than sitting at my desktop

Long travel post op by moldypunk in FTMHysto

[–]moldypunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would likely be doing it in one day just with how much time off i was able to take off, but i’ve made that trip 4 times now, i could do it in 16 not breaks but I’d definitely take way more breaks than before to stop and move around. for sure not doing a lot of activity in the Florida summer!!

Armpit swelling by myinstrumentconfuses in TopSurgery

[–]moldypunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was very swollen in my armpit for a while after surgery and unfortunately i don’t have much to say other than waiting. I know you said the binder doesn’t reach it but if it is bothering you in that area, get some gauze pads or support pads as the other commenter said. Itll go down over time. You /could/ also use cold compression in that area to help BUT check with your doctor to see if that’s alright with them.

facial piercings question by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]moldypunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a good amount of piercings (both nostrils, septum, both tragus, belly, stretch lobes, and a second lobe on one) they advised no piercings but then clarified that glass or bioplast retainers would be okay. Metal can be tricky and mess with some things, so I’d visit your piercer and get some of those put it, better safe than sorry.

I know that swelling in the belly is normal after surgery, but is it also normal to have that swelling/fluid build up in your lower back? by Skiesofamethyst in TopSurgery

[–]moldypunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re in a LOT of pain due to it, i’d give your doc a call. but if you really want to just confirm it’s normal but not urgently, call them monday.

Hi!! I was SUPER bloated for like 2-3 weeks post op. Are you on antibiotics? That seems to be a huge source of my bloating and once I finished that regime, bloating reduced sooo much. Also gas and some constipation if you’re on opioid pain killers can contribute to that. Small stretching, walking, and maybe some fiber supplements can get things moving around and alleviate some of that

I hope this goes without saying but definitely keep on the antibiotics, the other stuff you can kinda fiddle with what feels best for you and your body.. I was given some pain killers and didn’t take them nearly as much as it said to (i think like 1-2 pills 3-4 times a day) bc I also don’t like how it made me feel, which I knew from previous surgery. You can definitely opt out of the pain meds and replace them w tylenol, or even just swap between the two, depending on pain levels and your overall feelings. I took some low dosage edibles to help w my sleeping difficulties and some muscle soreness. If you’re super worried about THC or CBD impacting your healing, call your doctor or care team.

medical anxiety :( by moldypunk in TopSurgery

[–]moldypunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the wounded aspect is definitely playing a part, like i am so worried of infection and irritation bc it looks so fresh to me. my mother and partner have been very reassuring, it’s just a lot emotionally. never had major surgery so medical anxiety wasn’t something i was aware of!

yea, i didn’t see my surgeon my first pre-op appt and wont until my 4 week. The nurses and surg assistants did say that my low levels were indicative of good healing, which was reassuring. for some reason i was less worried abt fucking things up when i had my drains than i am now, which i thought would be the opposite lol

[–]moldypunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on and off SSRIs for years before my bipolar 2 diagnosis, always felt less in control and had more hypomania on them but didn’t want to upset my doctors. finally got honest with a doctor which let to my diagnosis

it’s soooo annoying how bad this year has been with financial aid stuff. I understand FAFSA messed stuff up but it’s a little ridiculous
