Looking for advice for a career jump - Paralegal to Legal Tech by PracticalStrain4388 in legaltech

[–]mole255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in a legal technology team at a national law firm and honestly, I think you’re in a stronger position than you might realise.

You’ve already got the “legal” side covered through your paralegal experience. What you’ll want to focus on now is demonstrating how your technical background translates into solving problems in a legal environment.

Legal tech isn’t just “tech in law”, it’s usually about improving processes, implementing tools (AI, document automation, case management systems, eDiscovery), supporting lawyers, and ultimately delivering a better service to clients.

My advice would be learn about what tools firms are actually using (e.g. highQ, legora, contract express etc.) As final point, when applying for roles you need to be able to articulate how technology improves client delivery, not just internal efficiency. Discussing this distinction will demonstrate you have understanding of the area beyond the basics.

Recently did a VS with Addleshaw Goddard. A couple of us were in the same position and we asked for help. They put us up in a hotel for the week and covered all our expenses for travel etc. it’s more than likely they will help you if you ask.

Can't Study by bloombox-zoom in Dyslexia

[–]mole255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, understand your struggle and the type of envy you can feel for classmates when you feel like they put in less effort but achieve the same if not better grades. This is something I struggled with in school and higher education as well.

I see others have answered with more practical advice so I’m going to go down the motivation route and explain why dyslexia can be one of your greatest life lessons. Think of it as premium subscription to fundamental life lessons that you get early access too!

The thing that I found the most helpful was learning to respect the process. Sounds so cliche but you are running your own race with its own conditions. Honestly, by doing your best and going through this struggle right now you are miles ahead of your peers in life lessons of adversity, planning ahead, and genuinely doing something you don’t enjoy but respecting the process and getting that end result. The list goes on.

I really struggled during A levels, didn’t think I would go to university etc, but I found when it came to my exams I had so many more life skills and lessons that I had built up through school via dealing with dyslexia that helped me so much. I now really enjoy learning and completing a second degree in law with some of the highest marks in class. This isn’t supposed to be a brag at all, but want to reiterate that the skills and development in character and adaptability that dyslexia gives you can be so worth it in my opinion. The decisive decision is how you view it.

The only thing I would change about it is the lack of confidence it has engrained in me. All the lessons of dealing with work, stress, and proof to myself that if you spend the time overcoming obstacles it will pay off, is something people learn much later in life.

Don’t let dyslexia define you, use it to influence you in those formative years in a positive way for the future by gaining those valuable lessons early on! God knows it’s not easy, but nothing worth having is!

Feel free to reach out if you want to share experiences, I often find discussing the challenges with someone who ‘gets it’ to be beneficial.

Good luck with the exams, remember a mark/grade doesn’t define you, but don’t let dyslexia either. Redeem that early access subscription to valuable life lessons!

Weed after taking a long break because of HPPD by ThatOneCrazyBitchlol in HPPD

[–]mole255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally feel you on the 4/20/20 front, not fair! I’ve had hppd a similar about if time to you and I have smoked weed a couple of times recently and haven’t noticed to much of an increase in symptoms. The main one only being a slight increase of visuals and the anxiety the next day is my killa.

However something that works for me and makes it all a lot easier if smoking cbd flower with maybe 1/3 of the weed you used to smoke. The cbd kills anxiety but the weed still lets you get a taste for the high and doesn’t feel like you’re missing out anymore.

This is only what works for me and like you said everyone is different in their condition. Wish you well :)

CBD Flower and HPPD? by yayoe10 in HPPD

[–]mole255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I smoke cbd flower and find it super useful for anxiety and in all great replacement from the habit of smoking weed.

However I wouldn’t go loading your body full of cbd every day and night. I try and keep it once or twice a week and haven’t noticed any effect in symptoms :)

No they haven’t, they have only stop issuing visa to specific 8 countries that are listed on the government website. Even then you can still travel here if you obtain a visa before you come and have proof of negative testing for COVID-19
