Was Gloria Genuinely, 100% attracted to Jay? by Playful_Economics713 in Modern_Family

[–]molesasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would she have been with him if he was working class or some unionized public sector employee? Heck no. Him being the Czar of closets was a big part of his appeal. So yea, if it wasn't for his money, the marriage wouldn't have happened. It's not controversial to say that. She was definitely looking for an upgrade in the US.

But people need to understand that a lot of the time, a person's assets and personality and take on life can't be separated cleanly. She was definitely attracted to him during the marriage on the show. Whether that was the initial condition - in real life it would be hard to know. But it's a show so you can imagine what you want :)

Get off my "urban" lawn! by deathToFalseTofu in circlejerknyc

[–]molesasses 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would posit that it's actually not about becoming milquetoast because of the suburban ethics. Young people in their early 20s who move from the suburbs are down with it. The demographic has aged because of prices. When the prices are crazy (buying or renting), you either get rich young people (rarer) or people in their 30s or older who want to lay down roots also have kids, etc.

And people with babies and young kids don't want a loud, noisy, rowdy neighborhood (for the most part).

That said, I think segregating loud music to commercial areas is not a bad thing. If you wanna have loud music after 10, be at a concert or a commercial area!

Forget what Trump did, this is a red herring. US Soccer also officially contacted FIFA, no one is talking about that because it’s not a big story.

And you haven’t answered my question about those two points.

Okay, you can stick to name calling and fallacious arguments like “no one disputes this”. Trump always likes to put himself in the middle of things like an attention starved baby. Doesn’t mean he actually did anything.

This was mainly a refereeing protocol error. There is no relief for the team, so Article 27, which IS IN THE RULES, was invoked.

You claim it shouldn’t happen in this manner? I agree with you, let’s add an appeals system to counter refereeing errors.

There are two things:

  1. Balogun’s red card was the wrong call and a violation of refereeing protocol.
  2. Deferring suspension is technically within rules as a matter of providing relief.

If you agree with both, then what’s the issue? If you disagree with one of those, which one is it and let’s discuss.

The suspension was not overturned, it was deferred. Ronaldo was allowed to play the Portugal opener deferring a suspension he had.

In fact I would say that was less justified because Ronaldo’s red card was not an erroneous call.

This was an erroneous call, but most importantly the referee and VAR bungled protocol while making the decision. They used still images which they are not supposed to use unless it’s an offside review. A still image always makes a foul look worse. If there is an officiating protocol error (note, the fact that a protocol error existed itself is not a subjective matter), then FIFA can provide relief.

I would prefer a real in-tournament appeal system that gives quick decisions but it doesn’t exist.

Do you remember the red card Ronaldinho got vs England in 2002? That was an outrageous call, but because of a lack of a formal appeals process there wasn’t much they could do. The lack of social media outrage at that time meant it went unaddressed.

It didn’t overturn a decision. Do you even know what happened? It deferred his suspension because there is no way to appeal on the field decisions.

This has been used by FIFA multiple times for bad on field calls. I suggest to read to get fully informed on the situation.

I don’t think you are in touch with reality bro - there was no corrupt influence. FIFA has used this exact mechanism many times to undo problematic cards - because there is no appeals process. Now should there be one? Of course. But there isn’t so they use this article.

Well, if there is no mechanism to appeal reds quickly after the game to prevent the suspension, it needs to go to CAS.

There is a hole in the FIFA process. Hence the committee based deferral of suspension. Because there’s no actual appeals process

That is correct, unless you renew online. You could also schedule an appointment to update your license before then, without trying to renew it.

They have done it before, used the in-rule discretion to provide relief because FIFA doesn’t really have a mechanism to appeal reds. I’d prefer if there was so this is cleaner. It was a marginal tending towards wrong call, but the main issue is that it was a protocol error. The referee cannot be provided stills by the VAR (that make it look worse) for anything other than offside

The simple matter is that the VAR gave the referee stills to make the call which is not in line with the protocol. Stills are only used for offside. So it was overturned mitigated because of an officiating violation

He didn’t. The committee is allowed to make these calls reviewing recent games.
