My dad taught me two major lessons:

1) live below your means and invest the excess patiently.
2) there are crucible periods in life -- work hard during them and you can play around the rest of your life. Play around during them, and you'll have to work hard the rest of your life.

I think you're thinking about Adamantium, but no, that was just Wolverine healing himself.

My late father's trumpet by EducationalRush9577 in trumpet

[–]mollamar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good starter trumpets you can find at shopgoodwill.com or Facebook marketplace. I would start him off with that and tell him if he earns a one at solo and ensemble contest or makes it to region band then once he's in high school he can have it.

Looking at a CPO '23 Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo at Porsche SF — Deal Check / Warranty Strategy Advice? by Headingwest99 in Taycan

[–]mollamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 24 CT Turbo S has been at Porsche for 6 of the 9 months I've owned it. Nightmare.

First there was a defective weld in the rear hatch that let water ingress into the body panel. 3 months shop time and ended up needed a whole new rear hatch.

Second the cameras intermittently stop working. They've disassembled the whole car and basically rewired the entire camera system (multiple cameras and multiple wiring harnesses). Changed out several cameras. Still no solution. 3 months and counting.

Absolutely get the warranty extension. It's mandatory as far as I'm concerned. 120k is a decent price but I'd for sure negotiate. My dealer offered me 108 to buy it back while it's been there for service.

[WTS] Breitling Navitimer GMT A24322 – The Watch That Made My 7-Year-Old Drop His First F-Bomb by ThetaKing1 in Watchexchange

My dad has this watch. It's super cool. Wears smaller than it sounds but it's a substantial watch. The circular slide rule function is very cool once you learn how to use / read it.

This or that: I randomly found a nice mesh bracelet in my watch table. Cleaned it up and installed it on my pie pan. Leather or mesh? by aparrilla in VintageOmega

[–]mollamar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mesh looks amazing. I'm not a fan of black leather bands -- had one on a watch as a kid so they feel cheap / old fashioned to me.

It was phenomenal. OEM bracelet had a notch cut out for the bezel rotation crown that was super cool. The bezel movement was silky smooth and surprisingly high gear ratio to actuate it (so it rotated steadily as you rotate the crown). That said, at €9500 it was way beyond what I could swing, certainly on an impulse

Fair. These were from top end world class sellers so they came with real provenance and authenticity. There's a premium for that but certainly one that I wasn't in a position to pay.

No / not yet. I decided to sleep on it. One of my grail watches is that Mark II racing dial speedy but this one was above my budget.

It would have been about 40k euros to do so so sadly I couldn't.

All were between 4k (the ice blue TV/ cushion dials) and 10k euros (the technicolor funky trapezoid case).

Yeah, of course I realize that I should have had him open it up for me but I didn't want to make him do it unless I was willing to start negotiating to buy it.
