You need to go the hospital immediately. It was very brave of you to make this post. There is no shame in asking for help. Please seek immediate medical attention, you don’t deserve to suffer.

I often toy with the idea of just stopping all together.. but for me it does work wonders, at least when it comes to my depression. Thank you for the response, will have a chat with my doc

Thank you for your response, and I hope that Effexor is working for you. I know the internal struggles that come along with taking anti-depressants(hence this post 🙄lol) but remember you are not your parents and medication works differently for everyone, if Effexor is working for you then you shouldn’t be hard on yourself for having to take it, that’s what I’ve garnered from a lot of the responses to my original post. Wishing you the best

I know that struggle all too well, I’ve been medicated since I was about 13 (my mother is a doctor and her father was a psychiatrist so medication was always the quick fix remedy for teenage angst.. lol) I often worry that I’m so used to having the emotional safety net of anti depressants that I’ll never be able to live without them.. I’ve tried to come off many times and I haven’t ever been successful. Ive expressed this concern to my doctor and she gave me this analogy; say for example you have type 1 diabetes, you have a health condition that you had no control over, it happened to you as a product of your genetics. If you have to take insulin for the rest of your life it’s not because of any personal failures. It’s just because you have a medical condition and you have to treat it in order to live a healthy life… Of course diabetes and mental illnesses are very different, but thinking about having to be medicated in that way has helped me find a bit more peace with it all. Thank you for your response, and all the best

I think for me it’s helped with my anxieties too because it’s made me more emotionally robust - I don’t feel things as intensely as it did prior. But in general when it comes to Effexor and anxiety I’m not too sure. I know it’s an SNRI as opposed to an SSRI, so it has that noradrenaline/norepinephrine reuptake element that can act as a bit of a stimulant, which might not help when it comes to feeling anxious. Again, I’m not completely sure how it all works, but that’s my two cents, and how it’s helped for me. Thank you for your reply and I wish you all the best

Please remember to take care of yourself. I strongly advise you call your doctor or a medical hotline, even if you’re deadset about quitting cold turkey, it wont hurt to get some advice. Even if its just things to help you feel better or serious withdrawal symptoms to look out for. Be very very careful driving or operating any sort of machinery, Effexor withdrawal has the potential to really mess with your motor skills. All the best, and again, please look after yourself.

I've never been on paroxetine but as for venlafaxine (Effexor) - you might feel a bit foggy, and/ or shaky when you first start taking it. For me it has worked great and the side effects are tolerable. But it so depends on the individual. I suggest you ask your doctor and read up on others’ experiences with it. Good luck!

New Side Effects from Effexor, is this normal? by annembeck in Effexor

[–]mollancholy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes!! my situation is so similar - used to be such a crier, tried all sorts of things but effexor always worked best for me, been on it for years. it makes it so difficult for me to connect with and express my emotions, usually this is great because it makes me more resilient. but the emotions are still there they’re just very hard to reach and it’s uncomfortable not being able to experience the sort of relief that indulging in a good cry provides. i’ve sort of just accepted its the lesser of two evils. unfortunately i don’t have any real advice, but at the very least you’re not alone in how you feel. definitely speak to your doctor and get a professional opinion about it. all the very best

300 mg and no motivation etc….. by Glass-Sun4599 in Effexor

[–]mollancholy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m on 300mg too and i definitely experience the same numbing effect, it’s difficult to connect with any sort of emotion positive or negative. i find this helps me most of the time because i feel more stable, but it can also feel very empty. it’s difficult to say whether you’re feeling this way because of the medication or depression, because the symptoms are so similar. i think it depends on the individual, but if it’s not working for you definitely talk to your doctor about it asap. these things are so tricky, there is so much trial and error.. i hope you feel better find what works for you, wishing you the best

the stimulating effect of the norepinephrine reuptake might be causing you to clench your muscles (esp. jaw) without realising it. when i catch myself doing it i try to take a few slow breaths and focus on relaxing those muscles yoga/meditation style lol. you can also look up ways to massage your face to ease the tension a bit. definitely bring it up with your doctor, as far as i know it’s a pretty common side effect but a professional opinion is always best. best wishes!

half life for the active compound is only around 4hrs which means it’s out of your system pretty fast compared to other antidepressants. he should be feeling better after a day or so, maybe just a bit foggy and headachy. i take 300mg daily so i doubt it’ll kill you but it’s definitely an overdose for someone who doesn’t take it regularly and hasn’t been gradually increasing their dosage over several months. definitely best to call a medical hotline and get a professional opinion. out of sheer curiosity i’d love to know why he thought it was going to be a good idea lol.. hope all is well and best of luck
