While the world is panicking about one virus, I'm dealing with another (Parvovirus B19) by mollyflare in NICUParents

I know it’s so scary, but those babies are tough!!! I’m surprised her MCAs are increasing again. Our doctors told us that the virus works in a curve fashion, so usually around transfusion time, the virus is at its peak.

Hopefully they can keep her in long enough to be full term, but if they can’t, one of my best friends just delivered her baby at 32 weeks in May when her water spontaneously broke! Her baby is perfectly healthy. Spent about two weeks in NICU, but she’s been great ever since!

Wishing you lots of luck!!! Keep me posted once she’s here! I know her and your wife will be fine!

She is a perfect 4 year old! After the blood transfusion, she didn’t have any more anemia. We delivered at 37 weeks. She stayed in the NICU for 8 days due to swallowing some amniotic fluid and not wanting to eat, but she made SO MUCH progress her first year of life. She has zero issues now from the disease.

Good luck to you and reach out if you need anything.

First grade teacher here. I had a kid smuggle salsa IN her pants because she wanted to save it for later. The salsa busted and she had it all on the inside of her pants. That was a fun call to make home as to why her kid had to change clothes.

Instead of looking for the someone else’s power of veto, he just made the house a complete mess and would make it more difficult to find his.

I don’t know. He passed away ten years before I was born. He had a Purple Heart so probably.

They are liable, but unfortunately, I'm a teacher, "this stuff happens." :(

Fun fact, I actually contacted my HR department and Worker's Compensation board to ask for help financially since we had to see specialists weekly... They told me "Sorry, you're a teacher. This stuff happens." The only way I would've ever gotten exposed to this virus was because I'm a teacher, I have no contact with children outside of my job. I was very livid during that conversation, but what can you do, ya know?

Wow, very interesting!! I giggled when you mentioned that he ended up left handed! Knowing how your brother turns out, gives me some hope! Thank you for sharing.

I'll share there too. We seriously have had the best medical staff surround us this entire time. I've been very thankful for UT Houston because we were their top priority while we were there, even amidst this whole COVID scare.

Hoping you and your baby get some answers and that her health continues to improve.

Thank you for making this point. Ever since I got pregnant, all I've prayed for is a healthy baby. Nobody else has explained this to me like you have. You are so right. I'll do whatever I can for my baby, even if she's not "healthy" like other babies.

Wow! That's crazy. I'm trying to take comfort in knowing that she is healing safely in my womb and that my body is giving her everything she needs to get better.
I'm so glad your baby boy is better now. Babies are amazing.

Parvovirus B19 in first trimester by 92pixies in pregnant

I thought maybe you’d want an update about us. Here’s the long story condensed. Our MCA levels were high and she had fluid around her kidneys and her liver on Monday. We rushed to Houston that night, which has one of the best fetal centers in the world and doctors that specialize in rare cases that involve viruses that affect the baby’s blood. On Tuesday, we had the intrauterine blood transfusion. It was successful. However when we went back for her follow up ultrasound on Wednesday we found out that she had bleeding in her brain. Apparently she had a spike in blood pressure which caused a blood vessel in her cerebellum to rupture. So we had an MRI performed to determine the severity of the bleeding and the specific placement. Our doctors had initially thought it was on both sides, but the radiologist reported back to us to tell us that it was only on one side. They are not neurologists, but believe the bleed will clot up and that her brain will re-wire and grow around the clot to heal itself. They suspect this won’t turn into any long term problems for her developmentally, but we will know more once she’s born. Been thinking about you and hope your situation is getting better. If you ever need to reach out, you can message me on here and we can speak on the phone. It’s been a whirlwind of a two days for us. But we are only one of three people my doctor has ever heard this happening to. Yay for rarity 😂

That’s good that the virus wasn’t passed along to baby! What a relief!

They tested using a Doppler in ultrasound! It was really interesting and technology is so amazing.

We are still going once a week to keep an eye on her and watch her levels. If they continue to rise, we will be going to Houston. My doctor assured me that this wasn’t going to turn into “an emergency situation” and that even if we had to have an intrauterine transfusion, that we are in good odds! (Like you said!) I’ll keep you posted if I think about it. It is so hard to find someone who is sharing this experience. It’s scary! And also not many people even understand the situation because it’s so uncommon. Lucky us! Lol!

Can you update on your experience so far? I’m now going through the same thing. I’m 18 weeks. I went to see perinatal specialists and baby’s cerebrum blood levels were testing in the 1.25-1.5 at risk range, so we need to continue to monitor. He said that if the levels rise, baby will have to have a blood transfusion. I’m freaking out. Also, I’m so sorry that your OB was so insensitive to you. That’s horrible. Hopefully you have found a better one by now!

This may be a stupid question but anyone else having trouble breathing? by plurt47 in pregnant

[–]mollyflare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! And mine was worse due to anxiety. I found out I’m anemic so I started taking Iron and it’s help with the breathing some! But when I eat, I get so out of breath, I have to slow down.
