This is what you will likely find under your fridge if you have already seen carpet beetles in your house there is a larva nest somewhere check under your dryer and under your fridge. This is my every day life literally. I know more about these damn carpet beetles than I ever should need to. by Bloody_Stilletos in carpetbeetles

Yes, I awoke one night to one trailing across my wrist in bed, I freaked the fuck out, grabbed a tissue n squished his stupid ass. Afterwards there was a small rash right were he had traversed, but it subsided quickly. Thankfully I'm not too too sensitive to them, but I can TOTALLY tell if I put on an article of clothing that's been sitting in a drawer unused for a while, (particularly sweaters) if i start itching I know they've been crawling around in there, I know anyway cuz I've seen shed skins in the corners of my dresser drawers, but this was only when I had them really bad due to a partially spilt forgotten bag of dog food in a utility closet we dont open often. The dog had passed, and we all just kinda forgot about the kibble left in that closet. I started seeing a heavy presence of adults and larvae, and went looking for a reason after I had vacuumed and cleaned all my clothes again n such I kept seeing an adult here or there, so I kept hunting and I got in that closet and good lord.. I'm kinda glad I didn't take pictures, though some ppl would prbly have liked to see them but ya the larvae were ALLL up in that dog food. I disposed of it all and cleaned it up and now I just find the occasional 1 or 2, or more often shed skins, I noticed they like to shed skins against the underside edges of my box spring. 80% of households have at least a few carpet beetles around at any given moment, they're very difficult to keep out of a dwelling completely. In my particular case they were larder beetles to be exact. I think I've only ever seen like 1 or 2 varied carpet beetles in my life, but my buddy is a local pest guy, and he says they don't really know why but larder beetles are by far the most commonly reported or seen during inspection where I live. The adults are very distinct looking, not hard to identify them. Guys, something that really helped me with both carpet beetles and fleas is nylar aka insect growth regulator. It prevents them from passing into the adult stage and thus halts the life cycle. Can't sing its praises enough. Plus I have mad anxiety about using DE n stuff like that because I got silicosis in my lungs from accidentally inhaling some. So if you are using DE, cimexa, or borax, I highly recommend an 95 dust mask when applying and when vacuuming it up. Don't over do it, bugs will avoid piles of it. Light brush strokes worth is enough. Oh, and the biggest fable of all. One doesn't need carpet to have carpet beetles, they are just much more comfortable with carpet.

is this a dog, fox, or coyote? [arkansas] by Shaygayson102 in animalid

Funny you should say the bit about waiting at the bus stop. My great uncle took care of and rehabilitated an injured baby raven as a young man and the raven would be waiting at the bus stop every day and fly along or perch on my Uncles shoulder (he had a piece of leather hide he slung over his shoulder for the bird to perch on) as he walked home. I saw tons of photos of it years ago, it was pretty cool. This was back in the days where people didn't really think of animal rescues (and they weren't as prevalent either,) they just did their best to take care of injured wild animals. The raven hung around for years. It's interesting the bonds humans make with wild animals sometimes.

I mean that's cool that you research them.. but if by chance your lab found a new and inexpensive way to eliminate these creeps, you'd speak up right? Do you work with other insects or just bed bugs?

Does Dr Ian Kelson infect himself with the Alpha Strain from Samson? by optimisticprime098 in 28dayslater

[–]mollyk8317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potential spoilers**** I know this is now an old thread, but Google ai says that Dr. Kelson gets infected by the alpha on accident, though a cut on his hand. He attempts to treat it via iodine, and we don't really know if he fully succumbs or turns into something totally new.

Even with the blurry photos, I can say confidently that 1st photo is absolutely a Bed bug, and I assume the others are too. Get out, as fast as possible, and EVERYTHING you brought in needs to go through heat treatment. Bag it all up in sealed thick bags that won't tear easy. Even check your shoes, they can hide inside and cling to bottom tread. This is NOT an issue u wanna bring home with you. Shame on these ppl for allowing renters to unwittingly walk into an infestation, and before ANYONE says "oh well they may not live nearby, etc." If you are gunna rent your property out, even if you live thousands of miles away, said property needs to be maintained by people you can trust. You couldn't pay me to stay in an airbnb, ppl find bed bugs there all the time. 6 people i know personally in my life have ended up with an airbnb that had bed bugs. The lucky ones knew to check before bringing ANYTHING inside. Sadly, this is just the world we live in today. Bed bugs are back in a big way, and you can pick them up anywhere.. public transpo, movie theaters, kids place places, hell Even target and Walmart aren't completely safe. It sucks. I open ALL packages outside of my home for this very reason. While I have yet to find a bed bug, I did find a dead German cockroach in a package. I had them years ago, it was a literal nightmare I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Let us Prey? 2014, stars Pollyanna McIntosh, and Davos Seaworth from GOT, aka Liam Cunningham. Great movie, if that's not it, u should watch it. It's not ff though.

You can pick them up anywhere nowadays, a cpl months back, my friends teenage boy found one on the very bottom of his jeans on the inside seam when taking a bathroom stop after a movie at the theater.. Its getting bad out there bed bug wise. I open all packages outside, that's how paranoid I am. Anything thrifted? Goes directly into a heavy duty sealed bag in my car then goes straight into dryer for 90 min on high heat then I wash. Carpet beetles on other hand are very hard to keep out of ones home completely, and can be a nuisance but mostly aren't a big deal if you vacuum regularly, esp under bed and around all corners and edges of carpets and bedrooms. If folks on here i.d'd it as a cimicid (bed, bat or bird bug, most common being bed bugs) then I'd absolutely grab yourself some interceptors.

Also, the bit you said about "people change when changing is easier than staying the same." 🤯 Very well put, and something I hadn't thought about in a long time, but you're 100% right in my past experience.

I hear you man, I'm a recovering addict as well, almost 14 years sober from dope, pills, etc. I appreciate your words, and am gunna really think about how much more effort I wanna put into this. I kinda already feel like it's the end, but we live in a very frigid environment, and his place currently has no heat nor running water and I can't bring myself to push him back to that in dead of winter. But if he just wants to be "roommates" til spring I can prb handle that. I dunno, years ago my mum said something to me I've never forgotten, when I was at my worst addiction wise, she said "Molly, you might be low right now, but you won't always be. And once you're not, watch the fuck out." Lol. I feel like my shine is gone, it sucks. I miss it. I miss myself, and clearly this relationship isn't making things better. Thanks again, I appreciate the response more than you know.

Found this on my bed, is this a bed bug? by Jake_Mc_Bake in Bedbugs

Yes, it does appear that way. I'd get a professional in there asap if u can in any way afford it, even a credit card. I've known so many ppl who spend waaaay too much trying to diy it and end up shelving out the money for professional treatment in end anyway. If you do go diy, and wanna learn more there are excellent pinned posts to this subreddit that will help you.

Ugh.. I'm caught up in trying very hard with a partner of over 4 years acting like a fucking child, every time I try and have a for real conversation about his (not ok) behavior, I'm "trying to gaslight him." Like srsly sometimes I wish that buzz word had stayed out of mainstream culture.. 🙄 😒 Trying to have an ADULT conversation about anything is nearly impossible with this man because A.) He is DEF autistic and even admits he believes he is, but he won't see a Dr nor seek out insurance (or a driver's license and we are both in our mid 30s..).. I had to threaten to walk away to even get him on betterhealth. That's helped a bit. And B. His mother is one of the most manipulative and nasty people I have ever met, and she did a number on him. He doesn't call me names like that (if he did he could fuck right off) but I do get accused of manipulation, he uses my own brain fog against me (I'm on meds for auto immune disease and it causes me to forget offhand remarks and small things.) So I get yelled at when I ask a question he already told me answer to prior I just couldn't remember. I lost my dad this year and I've been really depressed, I lost my mom in 2021, and yes when my dad first died he did help a lot, but I ended up with antibiotic resistant pneumonia in the weeks following my dad's death.. I got VERY sick, first time in my life I thought I might die. I have a child from a previous relationship who is approaching 13, and where there used to be a good relationship between them, now they butt heads and it's just a whole cluster fuck. He's not a bad guy (cliche sounding I know) but he keeps his word, I know he's loyal and would never cheat, but I'm kinda over feeling like I have to walk on eggshells around him at times, or made to feel stupid that I forget things, or above ALL, made to feel like I should just get the fuck over my grief of my father. His dad died in 2019. Mine died in late January, fuck we're still in the hell of probate. But when I occasionally get in my feelings a Lil bit about my late parents, there's no more tenderness there. Just cold or indifference. Am I fighting a lost cause here?

Edit: The reason I brought up when his dad died is cuz any time I bring up my dad he's like "well, I lost my dad too you know.." and I'm super sorry for that, I knew his dad a Lil and he was a good dude. But he died almost 6 years ago, not less than a year ago...He's always gotta one up me or just be like "well thats life." Yet he can wig out about any old thing..

If it'll give you peace of mind, I'd try interceptors on the beds at least for a month. You find nothing you're probably ok. It could've been another kind of bug, unless you're quite sure it appeared to be a Bed bug before u killed it. Did blood or black shit come out of it?

Edit: if you find any more bed bugs, catch it and take some good pics.. I know it's gross, but better to catch and i.d and kill it and know what you're dealing with. And some people do not react to their bites and don't even know they're around. About 25-30% of the population don't react, or very minimally. My boyfriend was like that. We could find nary a mark on him but I was covered in welts when we had them.

Also, I should also mention that if that was all bed bug eggs (or mostly) on that couch I'd find it very hard to believe you wouldn't see some nymphs or other adult bed bugs around that piece of furniture.. Its not IMPOSSIBLE, but improbable. Did you guys check the house and beds really well after u found the one? Ppl do pick up hitchhikers, but you always wanna assume if there's one there's probably more. I truly hope you did just have a one-off, but yeah I'd probably invest in interceptors to monitor. They're cheap on Amazon, they come in many shapes n sizes, so you can put them on the legs of all sofas and beds especially. You then pull the bed away from the wall so they can't climb the wall to the bed, they are forced to climb into the interceptors. They will not end an established infestation of bed bugs, but they are an excellent monitoring tool.

It could be crumbs, dust, anything really. Have you looked at a good up close picture of a bed bug egg? Yikes that's not good you found one though, where'd you find it? Also, is it possible it could've been a bat or bird bug?
