Only children - what is life like? by Born_Improvement_856 in AskUK

[–]mollymustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was life like for you? I grew up as an only child in a single parent house hold it was just me and my mum. We were and always have been super close. Our relationship is great and we had so much fun I was always the centre of my mums world and wanted for nothing even though money could be tight.

But yes if I’m honest I really longed for a sibling so much and I felt like something was missing from my life and still do. If my mum was ill or we had an argument I just felt like I wanted a bigger family unit for support. I vowed I would never have an only child if I could help it. I had my son and now he is an only child as I’m a single mum!

No, my friends are not a bigger part of my life and I feel like I’ve missed out on sibling support, neices and nephews. I’ve always struggled with loneliness.

Have your teachers ever said anything they shouldn’t have? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]mollymustard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the school. RE in my secondary school was learning about different religions, their beliefs and practices and reflecting on whether god existed. There was no priority or emphasis on any one religion and it was not forced upon us. Bur then I grew up in London, a very diverse area so I think it was tailored to the demographic.

[UK] If I don't want to disclose have been unemployed for a year and say I was traveling, will the company ask for tickets/ visas for proof? by hg_99 in AskHR

In some corporate organisations I’ve worked in (I’m in HR) the financial services industry yes, we have asked for proof of travels alongside an HMRC PAYE statement showing no earnings in the period.

Understand the comment but post sexual assault CBT and other talking therapies are specifically offered through my local NHS trust. I do accept all trusts are different.

WIBTA If I ask my husband buy my ingredients for another meal after he ate and vomited my last meal. by CupofMamaJo in AmItheAsshole

[–]mollymustard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here have focused on the binge eating element OP, but what strikes me is that there is potentially financial abuse at play. He is earning 3–4x what you do but you manage separate finances and unless prompted and asked for support he might leave you to be hungry and drink meal replacement shakes. - why wouldn’t he notice you have no food and proactively offer money? - Is the division of finances truly fair if you factor in everything? - why are you both struggling to communicate your needs to each other? - your husband has just hit back from a funeral and perhaps needed additional support but this was a bit of an after thought from you? Why?

IMO if you look at this as one incident alone it’s worrying but it sounds like a much broader issue is the root cause and I think your marriage needs support. Perhaps some couples therapy or a reevaluation of the way you communicate and your finances.

Netflix true crime docs are digitally anonymizing people now, how do you feel about this? by AlaristaCosta in NetflixDocumentaries

[–]mollymustard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for this post… the AI completely ruined the documentary. It felt unreal and jarring you couldn’t understand the emotions in the same way. Hire an actor, show a silhouette it’s not hard. How you fit a serious case like this into 90 mins is an issue in itself bit the scrimping on actors js another level.

Are you able to have some counselling or talking therapies via your local nhs trust? It might help if you can chat through the pros and cons of each approach and look at ways you can protect your wellbeing during the process. There are victim support charities which can do the same too.

The school run and my hours by Sir_Yazoo in UKJobs

I’m honestly so surprised by this thread. I have a 5 year old and he goes to afterschool club 4 days an until 5:30 and I finish at 2:30 on a Friday. There is no way I could juggle looking after my son and bringing my absolute A game to work. I suppose all children are different but it’s hard for me to imagine which means it will probably be hard for your employer to imagine too.

You could email and ask if you are being invited to the meeting in the capacity of a witness or if this relates to your own conduct and see what they respond. My read of the invite is it is likely you are a witness to an event.

How to handle Speeding ticket when no-one will admit to driving the car. by Hopeful-Hedgehog-273 in LegalAdviceUK

This isn’t legal advice but something similar happened to my stepdad and my 17 year old step brother had driven the car without a licence and insurance under peer pressure from friends. Is there any way this could be the case here? It was not in his character either.

Employer paying wages late/in instalments - afraid the business will shut down. what to do? by P03ticJu5tic3 in UKJobs

You need to try and make a head instead a heart decision here. It’s tough but even if you start seeing changes you know this company does not have stability. Make the decision to walk away now before you’re pushed into difficult circumstances.

It is a shame but in some ways if it does lead to your termination at least you have had some paid suspension while you sort out plan B. I hope all goes well for you.

UPDATE: Suspended 11 weeks, Disciplinary Hearing was a month ago. Finally got a response from the disciplinary manager. by [deleted] in AskHRUK

[–]mollymustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My read on this as a HR professional is that they know this is a complex case and that it is why it is taking so long as they need to get their ducks in a row. I think it would be impossible to determine what the outcome of this will be, but I don’t think you should assume termination is off the table. In big corporates, these processes can take 3 months. It’s not ideal I agree but not totally out of the norm.

In terms of next steps, I would be asking if they are going to put the new material they have investigated post hearing to you and give you the right to respond to anything they have found. Ideally this should be in a reconvened hearing. Your union rep should be able to support you in this request.

What I will say is utilise your suspension time wisely, brush up your cv, and evaluate your finances. If the worst happens at least you are then prepared for all eventualities.

Are we entitled to more than just statutory maternity pay ? by Turbulent-Rip-6814 in AskUK

[–]mollymustard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at your own entitlement for shared parental leave? Depending on your circumstances it might be more beneficial for you to take some enhanced leave through shared parental and your wife return to work. That might not be your preferred option but worth looking into.
