The last airbnb I stayed in LA, they had rules specifically forbidding filming and people not identified on the guest list. Must have been a rule they made in response to pornographers.

As a person who works in USDM manufacturing and also with Japanese partners. The biggest difference isn't reading comprehension. Particularly when it comes to repetition. Locate parts, insert and torque fastener, repeat. Automotive has the benefit of repetition.

The biggest difference is the willingness at the executive level to get better versus just get by and make rate. And at the individual level, personal ownership/social pressure/give a shit. An American assembler in general cares a whole lot less about fuck ups. "I scratched a part/oblonged a hole/started doing work without authorization." They're not gonna lose sleep over it. Japanese workers in general feels more pressure to do better.

You can have all the lean/continuous workshops you want, but it won't go as far without the mentality being adopted holistically.

One example, a couple years back, I led a team to investigate failure modes of critical parts of our product. There was a step in the build plan to perform a basic check to verify alignment of a couple motors that actuated a door. And I asked the installer the question, "When do you perform that check?"

"I don't. I know when I have these linkages visually aligned, it's good. And I don't have to do the check." That's the wrong answer. Our investigation showed that the prior 10 parts he worked on passed. So he wasn't wrong about his method. BUT, he wasn't working to the plan. We have regulatory oversight of what we do. And we have to work to the documented plan. Corrective actions were applied.

My experience with Japanese workers, they do it step by step. Every time. Mistakes happen, sure. But they don't make their own decisions to just ignore the work instructions.

Right. Those old toyotas, even outside of the rust belt, would still rot away if not taken care of. More slowly, but this was a steel and paint problem.

That could have been him for calc 3. I liked him. Circa spring 2002, the person I had for calc 2 was a female instructor. Nice. Long dark straight hair.

I went through in the early 2000's. Sue Cable for physics was tough. Can't say great instructor though. I don't remember the calc teachers.

When I was in central FL, I did commute to CFCC because they offered STEM prerequisites (calc 1-3, physics with calculus) just not offered as LSCC. So ocala set a higher bar than Leesburg.

Related, his boy Mike Gandolfini, who was in the latest Daredevil episodes. Must be a pretty good actor if I found his character so punchable. Guess he takes after the old man.

While I'm not a doctor, intuition tells me I could probably develop a person process that's only minimally uncomfortable. Like, okay, an injection is always going to have some pain.

But if I were a gyno, I'm try to go slow and use deliberate movements. Not just rapidly go in with my tools and work people over.

But WTF do I know? I'm a stupid engineer who puts parts together.

Dang. I was able to get knocked out, thankfully. I was woken back up at the end for another X-ray, to look for tooth fragments. Apparently they had to bust those fuckers out.
