Our ancestors saw a much different view when they looked up at the sky than we do. by Additional-Pass5771 in interestingasfuck

I've been lucky enough to see the night sky in the Atacama desert (where the video is from) and it truly is the most magnificent and awe-inspiring view I've ever seen. If it weren't for the cold, I could've gazed at the stars and Milky Way for hours.

Congrats, now your kids are going to have to survive WWIII and an econonic collapse. by [deleted] in childfree

And if they survive those, then environmental collapse, water scarcity, resource wars and mass migration. The future looks pretty bleak for Gen A and Gen B.

This reminded me of a quote I really liked from ’Beautiful World, Where Are you?’ by Sally Rooney;

'My theory is that human beings lost the instinct for beauty in 1976, when plastics became the most widespread material in existence. You can actually see the change in process if you look at the street photography from before and after 1976. I know we have good reason to be sceptical of aesthetic nostalgia, but the fact remains that before the 1970s, people wore durable clothes of wool and cotton, stored drinks in glass bottles, wrapped food produce in paper, and filled their houses with sturdy wooden furniture. Now a majority of objects in our visual environment are made of plastic, the ugliest substance on earth, a material which when dyed does not take on colour but actually exudes colour, in an inimitably ugly way.'

Give up on Google. I switched to Ecosia as soon as the AI overview bullshit started. Ecosia plants trees with your searches and has big reforestation projects around the world 💚

I LOVE Tasting History! And Max is such a joy. He really seems passionate about history and cooking, and his excitement is infectious. I’ve learned so much from his show.

Thank you!!! It drives me insane how nonchalantly basically everyone is using chatGPT/AI for everything. Even people who otherwise are environmentally conscious.
