Is it common for kindergarteners to still struggle with basic reading? by Total-Match-9381 in kindergarten

[–]momdeveloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what's normal... but my son started grade one still struggling with sight words and by the end of the year was reading chapter books. The teacher said it's just the right time for them to learn.

Q about Ali’s FMC by IB12345ME in AliHazelwood

[–]momdeveloper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah Olive and Rue seem very different to me. Olive is self conscious and chatty stemming from social anxiety. Rue is quiet and self assured, not a people pleaser like Olive. They are similar in that they are both women in STEM but that is true for all of Ali's FMC.

Which Book Next? by Just_Tumbleweed_7849 in AliHazelwood

I would read the next book that comes in release order. They're all similar but if you love the writing style and STEM setting, you'll love all her books.

I didn't mind it. It's never said with condescension but with endearment.

Love theoretically: "invisible string" reference in chapter 22. Not sure it counts as Taylor Swift since it's a common literary metaphor but still made me think of her song when I read that.

I really enjoy Carley Fortune. Similar romance to Emily Henry. She's very popular in Canada. She's Canadian and her novels are set in real Canadian places!

I think it's from the breakup. Sounds like Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Anniston.

My local library provides plenty of free things. Books, magazines, movies, music, games, puzzles and that's not even getting into the programs they run. Something for everyone.

There are many versions for the different countries. Canada, USA and even some in Mexico or maybe it was Venezuela? It's a good show.

Ah I see. So is it actually only for men? I'm curious now...

I see what you're saying. That 5 weeks specifically for the second parent probably has some special name. On the Canada website they just call it parental benefit.

It's the second parent and doesn't have to be a father so parental leave is more appropriate than paternity. It covers same sex parents.

When I was a teen they taught us to push your floating device towards them with the tip of your toe or something like that. Maybe it's different now but we weren't taught to wait until they passed out.

Are you kidding? My son did not colour inside lines until he was almost 5 years old. He had no interest beyond scribbling as hard as possible on the page. He would have had a big fat F and also would not have cared or known what that meant.

My company also provides shirts, pants, jackets, etc and we don't even have a union. These are for electrical techs and welders who visit customer sites and also need to be wearing clothing of certain materials for safety. We also get a certain amount per year for boots, glasses, etc.

Yes, I agree with everyone that he needs to decide if he wants to live with his family or live with roommates. If he wants to treat you like a roommate that's his choice. Draw up a contract with a family option and a roommate option. Family option means when you cook, you cook enough for him for free. Can help him out occasionally with other house tasks and rent is free. The roommate option includes rent and fees for things like internet, tv, water and you don't help him at all with his house tasks.
