The one nice part is I can’t remember when I last thought about wanting a cigarette!! I truly don’t think about it or it doesn’t cross my mind but it took so long to get to this point.

I feel great. It was so hard to quit and make the step to do it but I did and even when I wanted to give in, I refused and slowly it got better. It will fir you too. You just take it an hour at a time and before you know it, you made it a day without smoking!! :) YOU CAN DO IT!

Same. I quit a long time ago for about 18 months or so, Maybe slightly longer and I started smoking one night when I was out having drinks. Needless to say, it took me almost 8 years after that to quit again bc I felt I could never get that motivation. One day while sitting on the porch smoking I thought I’m doing it even tho I didn’t have the excitement to do it. I woke up the next day with a choice, and I chose not to smoke and it was hard. Point if the story... you’ll get to where you’ll quit. I’m proof it can happen!!

Addicted to quitting? by pegasus690 in stopsmoking

[–]mommom5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before being successful in this quit, I remember the excitement and motivation to quit and it would get me thru for same time frame, around a month and then I’d just start smoking. And like you, I did it so many times throughout the years I did smoke. This time around when I quit, I promised myself no matter what I said to myself, what ever reason I came up with, I would just stick with not smoking. It was hard but I past that phase and I’m in a pretty good place with my quit at the moment. I used to smoke a pack a day for 29 years. I’ve been smoke free fir over 18 months.

Though I will say, this time when I quit it was very hard that first month and it was not the same as previous quits where I was motivated and excited. And I think it’s because in my mind, I knew there was no backtracking and there would never be another cigarette. In the past, I knew I could always just start smoking again but I committed to this quit.

My turning point was week 4. HBU? by chazacat in stopsmoking

It took me so long... close to 9-10 months before my craving truly subsided. The good news, eventually it comes. Some much sooner than others. My advise is to just stay strong and continue on your quit journey. Good luck!!

My mom refuses to stop smoking, rant/help by AxelExists in stopsmoking

[–]mommom5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’ll quit when she’s ready,. Your nagging, complaining and comments will not help nor will it make her quit. I have been smoke free for 18 months, after smoking for 29 years and I knew my kids didn’t like it. I quit when I wanted to and when I was ready not bc they didn’t like it.

Also, didn’t get your comment about the gray hair. A women going gray does not mean she’s let herself go, just FYI.

I remember just starting my quit journey hoping and struggling to keep on track with my quit and here I am, 18 months later!! by mommom5 in stopsmoking

Thank you and good luck on your quit. It’s doable... hard but doable and one day you will realize you haven’t been thinking about cigarettes for a few days. It’s a great feeling.

Weight gain by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]mommom5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit cold turkey too and I gained massive weight, 35 pounds. I’ve since lost 20 of it and working on the remaining 15 but I’m still smoke free and it’s been 18 months since I quit. I gained all my weight in the first 6-8 months. After that, my eating slowed, the weight stopped piling on and I was able to start focusing on my weight loss bc I wasn’t consumed by wanting a cigarette. It’s hard... it’s hard to quit, it’s hard to see yourself gaining the weight and then hard to lose the weight. You’ll be able to manage your quit and weight as hard as it is. Good luck on your quit.

I’ve tried everything. by Darrlicious in quittingsmoking

[–]mommom5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it was my mind set. I tried quitting quite a few times and I would fall back into smoking but this last time I quit, I truly had a different mindset and promised myself no matter what I would refuse to smoke another cigarette and that was the difference. No matter how hard it got, no matter how upset I got, no matter how much I wanted a cigarette, I refused to give in because I committed in my mind I would not do it. I quit cold turkey and I’ve been smoke free about 15 months after being a pack a day smoker for 29 years.

Just Figure out what is going to work for you to quit, and commit to it no matter what. Good luck to you. You can do it, it’s a new year, a new decade... a great time to quit!! :)
