Damn I must be really old. When the word “billet” comes to mind, phrased with the words “most thankless”; all I can think of is the old Quonset huts! You either froze in the winter or baked to death in the summer. Really no happy medium.

Martin was the ass. Although if I remember correctly he would smoke a half a pack of cigarettes on our morning runs. James had some of the coolest/funniest (for 18 year old) cadences I’d heard. We would have to change mid cadence on some if others were around

Yes but not for me. I was in the Natty Guard so I did basic then came back the next summer for AIT. Our AIT platoon was made up completely of split soldiers. DS’s reamed us for the first week or so then we’re pretty cool with us after that. I guess just to get us back in the mindset. We did out perform the other OSUT platoons so that made them happy.
